Picks 34 & 50 in a so called weakned draft

Personally I'd hope we are just trying to bluff another team into taking Ball a lot earlier than he deserves.

I'd be gutted if we use pick 11 or 18 on him rather than a youngster.

Might well be T.H. and Mfc's intention. :D

ever since our coup collaring Jurrah I have a new found respect for our FD.

They, like any club wont get every selection right as some just dont realise the potential. You have to be astute in the way you go about getting the players you want. A lot of mind games and posturing. I particularly believe we are seeing a game of brinkmanship unfolding.

ducks and drakes ;) Be interesting to see it all unfold :)

You are the epitome of this MFC sub-culture of patheticness that strangles my club from time to time.

....

The MFC is bigger than this nonsense. The club sees it the way it is. We have to deal with what is front of us, not deal with ingrained and nonsensical pyschological distractions born out of years of the MFC being irrelevant.

Well written but it will miss the ultimate target. Too much common sense.

The FD seems to be on the right track, as does the rest of the club.

However, I want to see several great picks that are good in the long term, before I get really excited about our footy department.

I can guarantee I have no interest whatsoever in your rank ignorance.

Pot\kettle.

Thank god you replied to rpfc's post. You have just confirmed that it was dribble, not 1 of your 50 million posts have ever been right so your not gonna start now. Think up your own words instead of ripping them from other posters all the time.

Nah tell me. Are you upset that I'm critical of the club then in your next post you have a go at Newton? Pot\kettle I say.

Next time I'll put my head in the sand and tell everyone everything is going great at the club.

You thought I was having a go at you because you were critical of the club?!

You don't see it do you?

You are part of a large group of MFC fans who play a pathetic blame game (and have a resignation that the MFC has to navigate a world with 'everyone against us' - the AFL, the Media , our own board, etc) with every decision made by any person, connected to the club or not.

You see things - not in black and white - but in 'who screwed us now?'

If you cannot see that that is unhealthy than don't worry about it and live in your own little hand-wringing world.

Just don't ask me to live there.

What ever happened to mo64 and Brockstar5 I wonder ?

Anyway back to the thread topic. I think picks 34 and 50 will be used on players the Mfc FD perceive as the best available player they require at the time those numbers are called out. :)

Anyone want to challenge me on that thought ?

Im not convinced this is nearly as straight forward as it might have been in past years where you can see each year in isolation and for the most part pick in that manner.

I see this years draft as the first chapter in a convoluted mess. Next year with GC in the mix the oder of things changes dramatically..and so to the accessibility to picks.

Just for instance.. without getting too ahead of our selves lets say Melbourne are amongst the bigger improvers and say finish a modest 11th. That would put us 6th in the normal pecking order for picks. (2010)

Given the concessions to GC that would now be pick 12. our next pick would be believe it ...at 30. This allows for no change at trade week I grant

So from a year where we have 4 picks under 18...we go to 2 picks under 30. It might be similar or worse the following year with GWS . As we improve our pickings get worse ( effectively ) . You might start thinking that maybe this years picks 34 and 50 are better suited to a longer term outlook.

I think MFC will go about this in quite a lateral way. just my thoughts ;)

Two picks under 30 is usually the norm on average for an AFL side. Someone tell Collingwood that too.

4 picks under 18 is rare indeed. Let's enjoy them while we've got it.

but its two picks (under 30 ..assuming no trades etc ) for two years running in highly compromised drafts.

All im getting at is we might want to look further down the track than the next 12 months of playing group.

and its not the 4 picks under 18 that are the topic

I know that. I just like stating it. Opposition supporters envy it. They might even envy what will become of them. Got to stick it to them at every available opportunity as the tide turns.

On topic. Picks 34 or 50 are a mirage at present. They're there in the distance, but we've got a snowflakes chance in hell of pinpointing who will fall to those numbers in the ND. Prefer to wait and see.

Did I mention we've got 4 picks in the first 18 ?

The opposition supporters should envy who you have chosen particularly after they get torched by their performances in the following years.

As Richmond showed in 2004 when they had 5 picks in the top 20 (including No1) and selected Deledio, questionably Tambling at 4 then poorly with the next 3 picks.

Its nice to have the 4 draft cards in your hands. But play them poorly and....

no..hadnt mentioned 4 picks under 18 for some time

Im just wondering if the club wont take a defacto rookie approach with 34 and 50. i.e they will get value+ and value with the first 2 pairs of picks. even at this stage we are streets ahead of most other clubs.. ..then a break. There is in all likely hood ( despite any other exercises in thinking  ) still something at 18.. what though at 34 ?..or 50 for that matter.. I would presume nearly all the 'names' that are bandied around as having any front door merit will have gone.

Its a given there will hardly be any 'kids' around for a while...so youre all but forced to look in different cupboards.. More mature/late developers.. athletically gited but raw...and the list goes on.

I just have a funny feeling the FD will spring its surpises here at 34 and 50...last year was PSd..this year late picks in ND...just my gut

oh btw...we have 4 picks under 18 ...did ya know !!

I understand the thought precisely...but you have to temper it with the notion that Richmond were/are ( til proven otherwise ) a basket case

The point was they use 4 of the 5 picks poorly. The culprits for that debacle like many of the recruits are gone.

I am not so pessimistic about Richmond. I think with a bit of luck they could improve to seriously challenge 9th spot in the next 5 years. :P

Even nicer to have 'pair of Aces' in those 4 cards we hold.

2 aces and 2 trumps !! ;)

Veteran Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin returned to the training track to bring you the following observations from Gosch's Paddock this morning. Beautiful morning for training. The dew has dried, out from AAMI, quiet chatting. Maysie does his heart symbol. 7 in rehab, Turner, Hore, Sestan, BBB, Petty, Spargo and Schache. All in runners. Melky weighted and change of angles work. Salem has his individual program. White cap (no contact), Howes, Woewodin and Sparrow

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
