2010 Fixture

Featured Replies

The best draw we could have hoped for. It's arguably the most favourable draw of any side, and it's commercially beneficial too.

Anyone who's whinging about this fixture needs their head read.

I know round 22 is floating, but it also is a friday night game.

Are we assuming MFC and NMFC are certainties to be re-allocated ?

Maybe not a bad thing .. the game is scheduled for 12:00am. Bring a blanket.

Ed: "Club says 15 MCG games, I only count 14." 15 = 14 MCG + 1 sold to TIO. NT

It's not a Friday night game. They haven't decided when Round 22 games are going to be played. Since us and North are unlikely to be playing finals, it'll most likely be a Sunday match.

And 14 MCG matches = 14 MCG matches.

Absolutely sensational draw on a number of fronts:

1. First and foremost, as supporters of the Melbourne Football Club, we should be elated that we have 14 games at our MCG. That is a fantastic result and the biggest concern for me every year.

2. We play Hawthorn, North Melbourne, Adelaide, Port Adelaide, Richmond, Collingwood and Brisbane twice. We've avoided playing the top 3 twice, and get Richmond, North and Port twice.

3. We have only 10 Sunday games in 2010, down from 13 in 2009. Only 4 of these are home games.

4. The Foxtel games haven't increased.

5. Only 5 interstate games. Anything fewer than 6 is a miracle for the MFC.

For a team that has been absolute garbage on field the last three years and has attracted pathetic crowds during this time, the draw is almost a joke in our favour. Beautiful. I half expect the AFL to turn around and say "only joking - here's 6 interstate game, 11 MCG games, 15 Sunday games and the top 3 twice".

Great draw for the MFC, More Saturdays !!!

The Draw looks good & is an improvement on recent years

In fact on closer inspection we have a real opportunity to hit back hard in 2010 with this draw.

HOWEVER

8 Sunday games in last 10 rounds in useless to the huge market that includes G.Lyon & myself

who have teenage kids playing Junior Footy.

Selfess view I know however a reality in my circumstances.

I guess we will just have to make the most of live action in the 1st 13 Rounds of 2010.

Well all things considered not too bad. Would have preferred a more even approach to Sat and Sun through the season but it could have been , and has been far worse. Bonus not having too many at the Dome ( dont like the dome ) though annual Daddy / daughter will be there <_<

When we give them something to think about our exposure on free to air will improve. Its up to us. As they say...no excuses... Go Dees :)

On the financial side, don't forget the game we play at TIO against Port where we will get some good $$$ out of playing in the NT.

How much are we getting paid to do this?

Gippy

Bloody ripper, go the Dees

Think it is $500,000. Could be wrong though.

and again...the big winners of this draw are...........yep...dont even need to mention their name do I !! <_<

still ours IS better than last...just irks me that other mob never really have to earn their keep

Great draw, would like more saturday games, but it's definitely an improvement. We're not going to get more Saturday games than this until we start getting more games on Friday nights, which hopefully will come in time as we improve.

We should win 6 games bare minimum with that draw. What makes me even happier is the Bomber's terrible draw, big task for them to make the 8 next season...

Also good to have a home game against those Essendon grubs. I wonder if they'll wear their clash jumper which clashes with our strip even more?

still ours IS better than last...just irks me that other mob never really have to earn their keep

One day Bezelbub, one day (We hope!)

Impressive fixture for Melbourne a little disappointing we don't get free to air coverage till week 6

But I'm happy I can go to the G and see the dees 8 games in a row this year.

It's the best we could have hoped for let's see the boys do us proud.

How awesome would it be if we could start by beating the Hawks then Magpies.

I can't wait to get to the footy next year it's gonna be great.

and already Micky Mouse is complaining

Filth face daunting (? ) task....lol

unbelievable !!

They're just grumpy that Essendon have 19 Vic matches. They should just be happy they conjured ANZAC day

Their draw isn't as miraculous as everybody makes it out to be. They play Geelong, Stkilda and the Dogs twice. And incidentally they have a good interstate record so less interstate games isn't too much of an advantage. I understand about the travel/fatigue factor but every club has to deal with it. Our draw is better I reckon...

Cameron Schwab's take:

"Having 14 games at the MCG and a mix of Saturday and Sunday games, plus a Friday night game, a game in Darwin and the Queen's Birthday are rounds ... I think it's a really positive result for us.

"The one thing about the Sunday games is that at least you can get a bit of a rhythm happening in your season - I know they're not everyone's preference - but it's actually harder when you play Saturday, Sunday, Saturday and Sunday again.

"That's because of the six and eight-day breaks and those sorts of things. When you put breaks between our games, we get 14 out of the 22 at the 'G and the big run early gives us an opportunity of building momentum into our season.

"The AFL was very responsive when we sat down and spoke to them and we got a good hearing."

Some people are complaining about Sunday games however with a very young list we should be encouraging it as it gives our young players a chance to have a day or two extra to recover.

Yup Great Draw....how surprising...I was half expecting a home game at Casey! Only 2 Sundays in the first 12 matches is a bonus....

Fantastic draw. Can't ask for much more given our position in the last two years.

Can't believe we get to host both a Friday and Saturday night home games. Amazing.

Agree.

We got a draw outside of what we deserve.

Hopefully, 2010 will bring performances, on and off the field, that make us deserving of an even better draw.

And by 'off the field' I am not saying 'profits equal a better draw,' I'm saying that 'better crowds equal a better draw.'

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
