No one has over looked the indigenous angle, it has been done to death, over done. I don't understand why, If Flash left, why any of our other indigenous fellows would leave as well? Brock is leaving and yet no talk of any of his mates leaving?

you right LJ is already considered a future elder so he could easily step up....

Staggering article out today from the OZ as to what Fremongrel was willing to offer flash Here's an excert from the article

Davey declines $2.5m offer

AARON Davey did more than commit his future to Melbourne on Tuesday, he turned his back on a staggering offer from Fremantle worth $2.5 million over four years.

The offer, predicated not on a trade with the Demons but him walking through to the Dockers via the pre-season draft, was worth $625,000 a season.

It is understood that the package involved a third-party arrangement with a major mining and resources company which would have paid a portion of Davey's salary to be involved with one of its indigenous health programs.

The amount, believed to be a six-figure sum, was to sit outside of Fremantle's player payments and therefore be exempt from salary cap constraints.

All I can say is thanks Flash for commiting the rest of your career to the Red and Blue you are a loyal servant.

Another case of Clubs rorting the salary cap looks like visy and carltank model is becomming popular

Maybe we need to look at this differently, because with Davey we're getting much more than his on-field contribution. Locking him in for 4 years as a player means locking in his indigenous mentorship role too, making it much more likely that LJ, Wona, Bennell & Jetta will continue to enjoy their time at the Dees together, and more importantly, will not be swayed by offers from other clubs that are bound to come their way during that period. That also applies to any other talented indigenous players that come to the Dees during that time.

That part of his staying can't be underestimated. You would have to respect the advice of someone who has sacrificed himself.

Brocks mate(carrol) already left

I don't think Jurrah would Leave MFC, because of Davey.

Jurrah is a initiated man, he can make his own decsions.

Why is it that, because someone is black and leaves the club, that all others who are black will leave the club?

Is it me, or does that not sound racist?

I'm with Cards on this.

Missing the indigenous angle? We have been drowning in that angle all year. LJ will leave if not wrapped in cotton wool. Aussie will go because his injuries are frustrating him, we must keep all the Indigenous boys or they will all go...

Please...

Yep. I was wrong. Full retraction and apology from me Flash.

It's got nothing to do with race. As was mentioned in the Chris Knights thread, as soon as his brother became a pilot, we was less settled, but before that he was fine. I don't think you can underestimated the difference between living in a remote outback area and living in a city full of skyscrapers. If there are others there that you can relate too, I'm sure it's made a whole lot easier. I would have thought LJ was a little different from any other player indigenous or otherwise. His changing landscape has surely been far more drastic than many others. For that reason, Aaron, as the more senior player, plays a big part in his life.

Furthermore, when I used the "indigenous angle" line, I wasn't just referring to keeping LJ, I was also alluding to the Aaron Davey scholarship, for indigenous players.

Well, then it's an effing miracle Aaron Davey stayed around, and before him Whelan...

Some people are not up to professional football, I get that.

Angwin and Ablett couldn't handle it.

Bloody white fellas, always running off, wearing their thongs and their singlets with beer companies on the front...

Sorry for the racism at the end.

If it helps any, I'm white, so I'm allowed to be racist.

    HEAVENS ABOVE by Molly Melbourne

Who said the football gods and scoreboard attendants at the MCG don’t have a sense of humour? The gods spent a whole week teasing Demon and Bomber fans alike about Saturday night’s game. About how the entire match would be dominated by the hulking, brooding figures of 205cm Sam Draper and his 2IC Peter Wright lapping it up in the absence of Melbourne skipper and the club's No.1, No 2, No 3 and No 4 ruckman Max Gawn in the wake of that ankle injury. They painted pictures of Simon Goodwin ne

    GIANT HEADACHE by Whispering Jack

The crack in the captain’s ankle might be very small but the repercussions of the injury are enormous. The aftershock of the news that Max Gawn will sit on the sidelines for the next two or three weeks has provided Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin with a giant headache, not unlike the one he faced after the Kings Birthday when another Demon superstar Christian Petracca suffered his season-ending injury. That headache is magnified by the fact that Goodwin is facing a month of tough encounters a

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among
