Familiarity breeds contempt.

Butcher will not go outside the top 10. He is a very good player, and you cannot deny that. We've been analysing him for so long now, that people are picking up the smallest flaws, which in other players would go unnoticed.

He is clearly the best KPF in this year's draft. If Panos or Griffiths were under the same scrutiny as Butcher on this forum, they would be deemed by some posters as a 4th round pick, at best.

Having said all that, I'm on the Trengove bandwagon, but I would still be very happy with Butcher, as he will become a top forward.

Funny how that hasn't happened with Tom Scully...

Nobody has to find flaws in Scully...it's unanimous that we'll take him at pick 1.

Its hard to put my opinion down in words, but here goes.

Nobody has to find flaws in Trengove. It's widely agreed that he is the 2nd best player in the draft.

Nobody is disputing Trengove's (or Scully's) ability, but people are questioning Butcher, so they are finding more and insignificant flaws in Butcher's game.

You see, while almost all pro-Butchers are happy with a midfielder, fewer pro-Trengove/Morabitos would be happy with Butcher. It's different with Trengove because there are minimal question marks over him; there are more over Butcher and these have been exaggerated as a result of "familiarity breeding contempt".

Also, KPFs are different from mids. I think they are rated a lot more harshly.

Just a query, where do you rank Butcher compared to Tapscott, Talia, Panos, Griffiths, etc.?

At the back! I would definitly prefer Tapscott, Talia or Panos b4 the Butcher! I dont know anything about Griffiths.

Craig Cameron once posted on this board that his biggest mistake was convincing himself that Simon Black would be a poor choice to draft. Stop: Jurrahtime has a point.

He does, but not in Butcher's case. Its not like you have to look very hard to find flaws.

In terms of how I compare him to the others suggested:

Griffiths is about level, but he loses the edge due to his injuries.

Panos I've not seen enough of to even have a loose opinion of him.

Tapscott is a flanker, good kick, doesn't have the same potential.

Talia I rate higher because of his versatility.

I think all things being even, Butcher rates somewhere between pick 5 & 10 in this draft class.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
