Shaun Burgoyne walks out on Port Adelaide

Featured Replies

Judd went to a team that finished 15th on the ladder the year before.

What do you think the differences are between Carlton and Melbourne? And its not ladder positions.

if i remember correctly Trent Croad didnt have a say when Hawks sent him to Freo,he woke yp in hospital & was presented with a Freo guernsey & didnt know anything about it,i coild be wrong though

And what happened with that?

Croad went to Freo and did not perform.

Why would a Club accept a player who does not want to play with them?

What does a Club expect will happen with the remaining players (and their managers) if they shaft another player against their will to another Club in a trade?

Either your wrong or the AFL website is wrong ... you tell me ... http://www.afl.com.au/about/tabid/13514/default.aspx

Trading period

The trading period occurs shortly after the end of the season and allows clubs to trade players on that year's list to other clubs in exchange for other players, draft selections or a combination of both. The simplest form of this deal is to trade player A for player B, but often the deals are more complicated involving combinations of clubs, players and draft selections. Players involved must consent to the swap before a deal can be finalised and deals must be forwarded to the AFL by an agreed deadline.

;)

It's official now, Burgoyne has requested a transfer to a Victorian club no mention of any preference.

Hilarious comments ... OUT-OF-CONTRACT Port Adelaide midfielder

“Shaun Burgoyne and his manager informed us this morning that he would like to be traded to a Melbourne-based club. At this stage no particular club has been identified," Rohde said.

“Our position is that Shaun is a required player and that he will only be traded if a favourable trade for the Port Adelaide Football Club is forthcoming.”

Port are shafted if he holds his guns ...

So is he unless he is happy to go to the first PSD offer waiting.

A very big if but "if" he ends up at our club it could mean a massive improvement in our performance. When up and running he is exceptional at clearances. He is exactly what we lack.

Sorry I dont understand what you mean?

Powerpoint has many attractive features but it doesn't have a 'make an organisation that has won 12 of the past 66 games look attractive to players looking to win a flag before their careers end' feature.

We are not an attractive option for established stars of the AFL.

I really think many on here cannot process that last statement. They understand, but they cannot comprehend.

It is another frustration that we will might have the No pick in PSD, means bugger all when we are dismissed out of hand for established, quality mid aged AFL players.

Fringe players, Delisted or on there last legs players would be looking at us as a potential (which I think we are to smart to take up any of these no win scenarios) only.

It will be satisfying in a few years where we will be able to cherry pick quality from other clubs, hopefully from the likes of Vi$$y.

Would love to get him. The question is do we have the money? and can we convince him that we are good enough to have a crack at the flag in a few years when he should still be in his prime?

And let's not forget that he's just undergone a knee operation the result of which will not have been resolved by the trade period. If the club's policy from last year of not drafting injured players is observed then we won't chase him too hard.

Footy Classified tonight.

Hutchie says Burgoyne has walked, is done with Port and has a preference for a yet to be named club. He says the clubs in the mix are Melbourne, Hawthorn and Essendon. Caro added Collingwood are into it as well.

Edit - At the end of FC, they did the paper round, didnt catch what paper it was, but one paper is reporting that Burgoyne is seeking $2million over 4 years.

Good to know we're in the mix, but hard to get too excited after the Judd and Warnock sagas...

Throw the cash at him and hopefully we can entice him to enter the PSD. Won't be holding my breath though.

If we want burgoyne and make a play for him and we dont succeed we will be taking a step a backwards......................i really want him so fingers crossed we get him (we are in the box seat)

he'll be 30 by the time we have a shot(potentially) at a flag. no for me, great player though

What position would he play for us?

he'll be 30 by the time we have a shot(potentially) at a flag. no for me, great player though

is that such a problem though?

his age is exactly the age where we have a massive hole in our list. the odd 30 year old in a premiership side is not a problem. one could argue it is needed.

plus he will take the heat off other players from a tag point of view whilst they develop. jones, blease, morton, scully etc etc

i cant see how we lose unless we have to pay him through the nose

What position would he play for us?

Id think he'd get a running role maybe off half-back, til strong enough, (EDIT: WILL have an interupted pre-season due to a knee clean out) to play on-ball- with the skull..

Slyvia thru the centre.. davey, bate on the wings.. nice.

And he already knows a one, Dean Bailey.. ;)

If he's 'walked out', surely we could get him in the PSD for better than $2,000,000 over 4 yrs?

Not necessarily. Players can nominate their pay terms when they entre the PSD and he's likely nominate a price in that range anyway. If we've been paying McLean around 400,000 then 500,000 a year for Burgoyne excellent value.

Unless he nominates us as the preferred destination we wont get Burgoyne through the PSD any other way than all other deals falling over. If that happens we wont be getting him for less than he wants.

I wonder if 1.75 mil for 3 years would do it with some strict performance conditions to give him another year @ 300K should he choose to play on. This could be front loaded so he would get the benefit of having the money work for him now rather than later and gives us an out if his body doesn't hold up?

Don't flame me on this coz I really don't know a lot about his situation or what ours is with contracts. I'm just throwing it out there for thought.

500k a year over 4, hmmmmmmmmm sign where I say?

Edited by condemned 84

That's exactly what I thought too.

I'm still yet to read a single compelling 'con' to this argument.

Not saying i wouldn't take him, but 4 years for a possibly dodgey knee could be a very compelling con.

I dont know im kind of worried about the whole knee thing....

It would be great to have a legit match winner on the side and another good role model.

Question- If people had the choice-

Burgoyne or Pearce?

I really like Pearce and he is still very young and from all reports not happy with the basket case Port?

$2m over 4 years for Shaun Burgoyne is a steal, knee notwithstanding. We've got a shedload of room in the salary cap - now's the time to see if we can put it to use.

Fingers crossed.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
