he had a 40 minute chance today to talk about our club in a Q&A style

after reading all of that, he knows nothing, any spud who follows footy can come up with the dribble he said today,

i would of thought that being a so called "expert" "mastermind" of the game would offer a bit more than he did

Leigh Matthews: On delisting - You have to have confidence in the Melbourne coaching staff to make those kind of calls. I don't know the ins and outs of their players as well as the coaches would.

"Leigh Matthews: On Jamar I would have thought so. He is their most accomplished experienced ruckman and is their best option at first ruck for the moment."

Leigh Matthews: On picks 1 and 2 - Drafting is always a combination of the best player when your pick comes and balancing that with the size and shape your team will need in the longer term.

Leigh Matthews: On Newton - He is 193 cm and just turned 22. Normally players of this height that show some potential, as he has, are allowed plenty of time to develop.

Leigh Matthews: On recruting - I think Melbourne are in the situation where they will take the best young players with picks one and two rather than swap one for an experienced player from another club and I think this is good policy.

Leigh Matthews: On McLean - I think trade is a consideration but I would be surprised if Melbourne didn't see him as one of their core players to be retained.

Leigh Matthews: On pick 2 - I don't know this year's draft class well enough to make that sort of call.

Leigh Matthews: On Watts - He was just too light to play senior football this year and should be regarded as a long-term prospect as opposed to a Daniel Rich type who was already physically well-developed. Watts selection was about the longer term future, not the present.

Leigh Matthews: On the three delistees - I think with the policy of building a side for the future Melbourne made those decisions which I could not argue with.

Leigh Matthews: On development - No particular area should get more focus. They have shown good signs in all three and should be continuing to work on them all.

Leigh Matthews: On Sylvia - Played very well over the last part of the year when Melbourne looked a lot more competitive. Has always looked like a small-medium player who depends on marking the footy. His improvement will come from becoming a better midfield runner.

Your quite right about it being a poor effort from Leigh...

The question of why he gets paid to write for them? Because you clicked on it to read it and im sure many other people would of just because of his name, they dont care if its ground breaking stuff they just want people to visit the page.

Regarding his comments on Watts, I'd like to know what exactly it is that you disagree with.

I totally agree with Barney concerning Watts. He is far from ready Nothing wrong with that comment at all.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

    It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill.     Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval.     With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.
