I've heard a few comments here and there on this site about Tom McNamara having not signed a new contract and wanting to be traded back to SA. Does anyone know if this rumor is true or if in fact it is just that a rumor? Haven't hear anything in relation to Jamar requesting a trade back home recently so I thought this may be just like that one and idle gossip. If anyone does know anything more though please say what the situation is?

Why wouldn't Port or Adelaide just pick him up in the draft?

If you wanted to recruit Tom it's not like 15 other Clubs would be fighting you to take him.

I wouldn't let him go though -- I think he could very easily blossom into a great player.

I remember a young Col Garland. He had wonderful pace, agile like a cat, smooth mover with good skills and made good decisions. In the VFL he really looked like a classy player. He just took a few game to adjust to the pace of AFL footy.

Tommy Mac, unfortunately, doesn't have the same athletic attributes as Col. Where Col has the athleticism to play in virtually any spot in defence on any type of opponent, Tommy doesn't have that same speed and agility to play on small forwards nor the size to match up on the bigger forwards.

I'd say that we'd happily trade him to a club that wants to give him a home, because it may not be Melbourne next year.

Either this rumour is just hot air or Tommy must be one of the doubest blokes going around the AFL.

Although some melbourne supporters feel he has "potential" all he has done is show that he has a chance of forging a career in the AFL He is playing in one of the worst sides (this year) in the AFL, where he will be given oppurtunities and has not yet come under the radar of young emerging talent.

Tom needs to keep working hard and stay humble, otherwise he could be stacking shelves at Coles some time soon.

I like the way Tommy plays an attacking game out of defence, bringing the ball forward, but I may have got ahead of myself re Tmac, I thought he had reasonable pace but now I'm not so sure of his speed, the other week I watched him on replay & he didn't seem so quick on the move.

He was pick 66 in the 2007 draft and was selected by MFC at a time when other Clubs were saying "PASS" on their fifth round pick. Its called have a last spot punt in the draft. Most dont work. TMac is another example. I reckon he will be cut and at best given a rookie spot.

You do make a good point, I guess if he did want out he could just walk out and hope one of the SA clubs pick him up in one of the drafts.

He made a few mistakes in his senior games - but he didn't look overawed or out of place. He's had a bad run with injuries. Has a bit of a Dustin Fletcher look about him - long arms etc. He's still only a kid. He was the youngest player drafted in 2007

I think he was the youngest kid in the draft when he was picked up, so that's worth noting.

Anyway, I thought he looked like he could offer something as a lead-up forward - marked nicely on a lead and kicked into the forward line quite well at times.

I'm not sure he can squeeze into our backline.

Emma Quayle rated him in her top 25 draft prospects in his year.

Personally id definitely keep tom for another year.

Prefer to see him stay but no big loss if he goes.

I don't believe there is any suggestion that he has any attitude problem.

The problem I see is a lack of pace. He does have some ability, why else would he be on an AFL list.

The real problem will be unless we trade some players some others will have to go. He may be in the gun especially as he could be kept at the club via the rookie draft.

emma quayles top 25 that year. ok shes is just another journo with her own personal take on things, but genreally her stuff is worth a read. given that he was the youngest player in the draft there was speculation that he would be a high draft pick the following year.

even if there wasnt that speculation, why pick a úplayer so young that he has another year of under age footy in him, only to dump him after two years? he would have to have been picked as a player who they thought would develop, and unless he has shown nothing, he would have to be worth a go. and it can hardly be argued that he has shown nothing, even if it has only been glimpses and not consistantly.

I don't know about 'connections'.

However, I think Emma Quayle provides good insight to the draft and writes excellent stories regarding all draftees (ie 1st round picks and even late picks / rookies). It comes as no surprise to me of her recently recognised award for a story she wrote last year during last years Draft camp.

With the tall defenders we have, I actually thought we would offer him a rookie spot and delist him of our senior list. If he wants to go home its a shame as he doesn't have any trade value.
