I saw most of the game today on TV, Adelaide absolutely destroyed Carlton.

They are a remarkably well-drilled unit, have a very potent fwd line (they kicked 27.14!!!) and a good spread of goalkickers (Burton, Dangerfield, Hentschel, Knights, Porplyzia, Tippet and Vince were all multiple goal-kickers today).

If Bock can get back in time for finals week 2, I reckon they will be a serious force for the premiership. The only setback is that they won't have a home final after the first week.

Thoughts?

For a few weeks now I've had Collingwood as my favourite and Adelaide as my smokey - we'll see

Adelaide are Definately a chance. So are 5 others. Very open this year

I will be overseas, Hope i can find the odd TV whilst in Asia...

carlton don't have a backline hence the Russian and Robbo were able to kick 5 each last week. We kicked 15 against them which tells you just how bad it is.

Having said that I agree with you about Adelaide they are a very good side that runs and works hard all day, I hope we can emulate their work rate.

It just shows how much of a joke the draw is when Carlton were above them before the game. There are 5 genuine chances for the flag the rest are very average.

That is why Rhino I think next year we can't make the top 4 but I definately think we can beat average teams like Carlton so I think we can make the 8. You still believe in your stats o great one?

If the Cats, Saints or Doggies don't win it, I want it to be the Crows.

Anyone but Collingwood!

Glad someone else believes that we can make position 8.

There are people on here who think our young kiddies should be kept in cotton wool for 4-5 years!!

Try & tell that to Cyril Rioli, wasn't his fault the Hawks fell short this year.

Dammit! You beat me to it. Good side in Adelaide but Carlton has no idea when it comes to the defensive side of the game. If they want to play the shoot out game with the big boys they are going to get hurt, and badly.

Early in the year and especially after watching the game they played us at the 'G, I didn't rate Adelaide. Ugly defensive style. They have found form at exactly the right time in a long season. They are well-disciplined and very well coached. And they seem to have added an impressive attacking game to that staunch defence.

Add to that the drop in form of some of the others, and I'm expecting Adelaide to have an excellent chance of being at the 'G on that last Saturday in September.

Just goes to show how good Neil Craig is as an AFL coach. Of all the coaches who haven't won a premiership flag (and some would argue that he was the one who got Adelaide over the line in '97-'97) I rate him the most. The rapid development of his team and some of the younger players in the side has been an exceptional achievement. The Crows have never had a top 5 draft pick but they still have a team that looks very capable of going all the way this year.

The Adelaide jumper is very very tight.

Tough to tackle!

I'll back mine over yours legend any time.

Any chance of you addressing your glaring contradiction in that post? Or like usual you just dont see it?

FWIW, Carlton beat us by 8 goals last week with barely getting out of third gear and raising a sweat. Carlton arent flag contender but over the course of the year they have been better than average. Carlton have achieved their target for the year...to make the 8. They should not go further. But there expectations will be that they wish push for top 4 next year with recruiting and getting back Waite from injury to bolster the backline. They need to address it.

Adelaide will thump Essendon next week, and will have a serious chance at knocking off Collingwood/Geelong in week 2. They are a very good team, with a potent forward line, strong defence (with Bock to return, amazingly) and good midfield too. Mind you, Carlton aren't much defensively. I mean, we almost scored 100 points against them last week. Any team with a half-dencent defence will beat Carlton.

We have been tanking for at least half the season with most of our players out or getting played out of position. The team next year will be totally different to the team we have now. I don't need stats I actually watch the game you should try it sometime.

Stats can be very Misleading in many areas with todays Football.

Getting 40 possesions in the backline has almost become passe with certain teams.

Inside 50's mean Bugger all, its all about effective & ineffective stats now.

Along with Fitness that's what i hope is a major part of our pre season.

This year was Competitiveness, now to add effectiveness.

Rotations also change the worth of stats now.

The team next year will be similar to this year but with an average 15 games experience plus hopefully some impact from the new recruits and 1st year players that had little impact. But the team is still young and will be inconsistent. It will have days of promise and excitement mixed with days of bewilderment and lack of performance. Thats part and parcel of a young side.

If they can pick up the nine games they are short to compete with Carltons ATM fantastic. Its big quantum leap that you cant fathom. And saying we are tanking is not a coverall for some truly inept performances this year where our skills just werent up to it.

I trust you will watch the games next year and prove to yourself that you're as equally astute again.

If it were so easy every player would get 40 touches.

You make it sound so worthless. Today's game is mor high possesion but 1 or 2 players only get over 40 touches a week. If that?

To get a lot of touches these days you need to run really hard all day. If your in the backline it helps.

I know, i am talking more of the possesion "icing the Clock" scenario. It does happen more at Etihad, but i still say stats are not as rock solid as they were.

Adelaide into $6.50 now. I don't think that's very good value tbh, still a lot that could go wrong from here.

Correct. They were awesome last night as they were in disposing of Carlton in the second half last week. They'll be hard to beat next week. The 8 day break should see them cherry ripe for an assault on Prelim week.

How good is Bernie Vince, Kurt Tippett and the Porpoise.

Who have Adelaide beaten this year???

Let's have a look....

Rnd 1 they beat Collingwood by 4 points

Rnd 3 beat Freo at Subi

Rnd 5 beat us

Rnds 9 - 15 they won 7 on the trot.... beating quality sides like Carlton, Hawthorn, Essendon, Kangas, Sydney, Richmond & Freo

Rnd 17 they beat Port

Rnds 20, 21, 22 they beat Hawthorn, West Coast and Carlton

Now.... Let's have a look at some losses....

Saints smashed them twice

Geelong smashed them at AAMI and then got over the line at KP

Bulldogs, Brisbane and Collingwood also beat them

As well as Port in the first showdown of the year

And then the Crows play a home final against a side that hardly deserved to be in the eight.....

haha.... The Crows have beaten no-one of significance this year apart from Collingwood in Rnd 1....

I live in Adelaide and I love reminding the fools here of these facts..... They think they are premiership favourites now.....

They will get pumped next week at the MCG....

Damn I hate the Crows!!! :P

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
