I agree Rojik.

I applaud the club for taking the direction it did, I blame the AFL for not putting in place a system that avoids this (though not TOO harshly, as I can't come up with a better system), and I feel sorry for any club that has to deal with it in the future (except the Toigs and Pies... ooh how I hate them).

With all that said, I am very glad I never got carried away with getting stuck into the Blues. It DID frustrate me when they did it, but only because we were the big losers.

Now that my club has done it, and I found myself willing them on to do it, I see it in a different light. I remember, I think, when McMahon kicked the goal I came on 'land and the first thing I said in the gameday thread was to gently suggest that anyone who calls them "Carltank" may want to have a good look at themselves.

As for the future, where no doubt we'll be the subject of MUCH mockery, I kind of think of it like I do the whole "toothless" thing for the pies, or "Mt Buller" joke for us. I'm sure that when Pies fans are ribbed, they take comfort in the fact their "everyman" identity comes with a massive amount of people, and thus financial stability. Likewise, getting given a hard time for having more class than everyone else is kind of a long way from being insulting for me...

And that's where he tanking crap is worth it. I'd rather be called a tanker, and pick up the players we're getting (and hopefully go all the way to a flag), than to be "proud" and end up middle of the ladder... again. The Pies can have their prelims... they played with spirit and all that, but they're not winning a flag. That's what separates us from them...

Oh... that's if you don't think they tanked for Fraser... :D

Agree, they should be referred to as Carlstink or Carlscum.

The general belief is that they tanked to get Thomas/and or Pendlebury...I mean honestly, who loses to Freo by 120pts?

Exactly. Back when Collingwood did their tank there was no where near the media hype their is now even though it was mentioned in dispatches. They had one down season and experimented a fair bit themselves to ensure they got 2 top 5 draft picks. Its in the wake of Carlton's unparalleled effort to tank games that's brought about all the tanking hyperbole that we've had to endure.

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
