What do we think of Morton's season, as we don't seem to be mentioning him much?

I would put him at No7 on my list and push the others down one peg

Not sure if you'd say Grimes has improved per se, there's no basis for improvement since he spent most of last year out.

Jamar's improvement hasn't been as meteoric as people think. It's been a gradual improvement that has been evident over the last two seasons, but people are only noticing now because he's reached a stage where he can influence games. I'd say all in all his progress is just another small incremental step on last year rather than a big/instant improvement.

Has Moloney really improved? I don't know. I can't remember how he played prior to this year, he was on the park so little. I've been a huge fan of his this year though, and believe he should definitely be amongst the names discussed for captain next year and beyond if Junior gives it away. It's been nice to see him consistently on the field.

I'd probably put Frawley as my main improver as he's been playing at a consistently good level all year. It's amazing what a bit of extra body strength and confidence can do really. His rise has very strong parallels to Garland's rise last year.

Sylvia a close second, but his last silly act for me takes a lot of the shine of some very good work he's done, and wasted the huge momentum he had up. Pity really. Let's hope he learns from it.

Yep, those 5 stand out.

Frawley though has improved beyond belief, and pretty much over night.

Frawley hands down for me, of all the contenders he is definetly been the most consistent performer.

I wouldn't be bestowing any accolades on Sylvia just yet, he may have finally stringed together a couple of months of quality footy but he's still stuffed up twice more than most other players did this year. That suspension was a massive let down IMO.

Davey has been awesome in stretches but still struggles way too much with tags if he wants to be an elite player.

Moloney has been great but really he is simply playing at a level we should expect of a club leader.

Petterd's shown good signs in his new role, I wouldn't say he owns it just yet though.

I wouldn't include Grimesy as he didn't really play last year.

It's Sylvia easily. He's the only player on our list that has shown any capability of playing elite football. And it's certainly been beyond virtually anyone's expectations.

Well done Trag.

Frawley and Sylvia

Frawley for me, dont you just love it when he attacks the ball, wins it, and takes off up the center. I think he can be as good for us as Danny Hughes was[ the 80s one] A bit more time and he will dominate any forward line, with the likes of Grimes and Bennell feeding off him.

Frawley's in the same category though, isn't he? I agree, Sylvia has shown he is capable of elite output, he just now needs to do it consistently. I can't wait to see our backline next season...Frawley playing next to Garland, with Rivers and Warnock in support...it's a dream team at the back. :P Hyperbole? Maybe.

Sylvia, Frawley,Bate, davey, Moloney, Petterd, Jamar

I think Bate is very underated, and deserves more reconision for his efforts this year. and Sylvia Wow what a player he could be

Posted

This is nigh-on impossible to answer. There's about 8 names that last year would have romped into first place, or second behind Garland.

The question is, are we asking for the player who's played the best this year, whilst being a no-show in the years before? Then it's Sylvia. Has the best footy and consistency behind him. And no-one seems to care that he is out for 3...

However if were asking who has come the furthest from the previous season, or from previous seasons... Then I reckon it'd have to be Grimes. He had one game in which he did nothing, and this season he's been doing a lot more than just a very good rookie should do with cameos... He's been holding his position and meeting the game head-on like a veteran. Sylvia had "some" form before this season, likewise Moloney, Jurrah... The only one to knock him off would probably be Frawley.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
