Season Highlights so far

A bit of negativity has been on these boards so far this year, and i've admittedly been focussing on it too so I thought it would be interesting to see what peoples 5 most positive things they can take from the first 6 rounds.

1. James Frawley: Has emerged as a player that will play Key position or on a small for many years. He is a great tackler, very quick for somebody his height and will continually bulk up. He had plenty of doubters but I always knew he would come good. A lot of people with egg on their face here.

2. Petterd: Has shown his ability to find space and get a bit of the footy. Has not lost an ounce of courage either.

3. Morton: Not so much his dosposals but his ability to find the footy has improved from averaging 17-18 touches a game to over 23 touches a game in only his 2nd season. That in itself is impressive enough.

4. Moloney: Its great to see him on the park playing great footy. He is one of our midfielders that is a good kick and hence I feel safe when he has the ball.

5. Davey: Finding plenty of the ball, mostly from running behind others and receiving it..but his disposals are hitting their targets and thats something he really seperates himself from our other midfielders. Disappointing that he missed the goal in the first quarter against the cats...but is our only chance for All-Australian this year and given our position on the ladder, even that is a longshot. Hopefully he keeps finding it.

1. Landing two major sponsors. Was a major win for the club to secure some financial stability for the next three years.

2. General on field performances. We have had a crack every week so far and have improved out of sight (not that it would be difficult to improve on last year).

3. Emergence of Frawley, Martin and Bennell down back along with Rivers getting through 6 matches straight. We're slowly developing a premiership winning defence.

4. Jack Watts goal on staurday in the VFL. Nothing but class!

5. Our win over Richmond, don't think I need to explain.

Agree on all, though I would probably have Stef in for Morton.

For a second year player you have to pretty happy with Morton, but so far he is down on last year's performace.

Stef Martin on the other hand, he just never gets beaten, his disposal isn't damaging but he rarely stuffs it up. As it happens he was our only player yesterday to register 100% effective, albeit on only 10 possessions.

Agree on all, though I would probably have Stef in for Morton.

He's not down at all, but if you watch carefully you'll note that the opposition is paying him far more attention this year as he's considered one of our line breakers.

1. Frawley, Bennell, Cheney and Martin. Promising defence. Add Grimes, Strauss and Buckley later in the season.

2. Players successfully returning from injury. (Ricky, Robbo, McLean, Rivers etc al)

3. Harder running midfield. Morton is a master of this.

4. Davey. Back from the brink.

5. Sponsorship and membership.

6. The form of Chris Johnson.

Negatives:

1. Injuries...... Was looking forward to seeing Blease at least play for Casey. Buckley, Green, Grimes, Garland, Wheatley are Wona required players.

2. Crowd numbers.

3. General lack of respect from the football public

4. The form of Bate, Johnson and to a lesser extent Bruce. I was hoping that Bruce would show more leadership this season.

My problem with Morton (again a brilliant player for his age) is that he isn't damaging with his kicking, and he will never be while he continues to look for the cheap kick sideways. Whether it is a confidence thing or a hard tag thing whatever I just havn't seen him take positive steps so far this season. His output is still commendable I just dont have him in the highlights for the season. I would almost have Meeson in the highlights ahead of him, though that it is a highlight of relative expectations.

-Definately Davey and Frawley. They'd be the pick of the bunch. Stef Martin has made the most of his chance since coming into the side when Garland got injured.

-Some youngsters showing something, like Bennell. Didn't expect to see much of him this year given he was drafted late and most likely considered a project player. But he's shown some real poise.

-Getting the sponsorship deals done. Especially good with so many clubs coming out of sponsorship deals at the end of this season.

-Over 30,000 memberships. Hard to miss this one.

-And we won a game. That's something.
