Bartram Misses the Target

Anybody else see Clint Bartram Vs Heath Scotland in the handball competition on Channels 9's "The Sunday Footy Show" today?

His first left hand handball missed all the scoring area and was actually lucky to hit the rotating target at all!

Poor buggar was highly embarrassed but copped the ribbing from the hosts on the chin.

IMO, pretty well sums up Melbournes performances over the last 3 years I reckon! <_<

When he was drafted I recall Cameron saying he would have been a top 15 draft pick if it weren't for his kicking skills. This is good enough reason why he shouldn't have been drafted to our club nor should a lot of other players that had suspect disposal during their junior days.

Yeah, obivously 'would have been top 15 if not for X' is a good reason to pass on someone at pick 64.

Just like you, I love writing guys off after less than 30 games, it makes all my own inadequacies a little easier to ignore.

But I think you may have 'twisted' it once too often there.

Dont know if one can really sum up a football teams performance over the past few years, with one poor handball on a television program..??

Didn't start this thread for anyone to have a crack at Bartram for 1 second. It was a funny moment of which I thought was ironic.

Bartram is a gutsy footballer who never stops. 99% of the time he gets the oppositions best player and has to sacrifice his own game to negate them.

Don't know about his stats yesterday, but watched him absolutely negate Boomer Harvey in Round 1.

There are a lot of others who could learn from his work ethic - IMO.

Oops. Well, please feel free to revise my earleir comment to "writing players off before their 50th game". I see how that is a major difference, yeah.

Doesn't change my point - a player needs to be genuinely poor before they deserve to be written off this early in an inteerupted career.

Bartram has been an effective tagger and has excellent fitness, courage and determination. His disposal isn't any worse than much of the team, and he is often in positions of intense pressure because that is the place he is expected to be - these aren't soft kick-marks we're talking about, he's generally on the opposition's most dangerous small forward/midfielder.

I'd have no problem if someone said 'probably needs a run at Casey until he can improve his confidence and disposal a bit, but to write him off? Bleah.

He has a career kicking efficiency of 68.7%

Besides Marc Murphy im struggling to find a player thats played as many games with a worse return.

Then it's a good thing he is a tagger.

Some people are getting caught up in the icing, we have to be concerned about the cake - Our midfield went missing for a half on Saturday and it killed us.

Let's worry about Batram's ability to deliver the footy over 35 metres when we win the contested footy, the clearances, and the tackle count.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
