How good did our cheer squad look today.... bigger and better. Please go back to a few years ago, and reunite as one , rather than 2 smaller ones. Not sure of your issues but time to move on !!!! You looked magic today.... better than Collingw&%$'s little pathetic cheer squad (compared to other years). Sadly you only had 2 qrts to look good. All those flying flags in the first half just looked impressive.

Have to admit it did look prety good.

On a sour note, there was a pretty full on punch up outside the ground between supporters after the game. When we exited the gate a lady ran up to the cops to tell them. It had been going for a while by the time we got near but as well as the blood and black eyes and kicking and fists we saw a kid sitting on the ground crying while all this was going on - just a terrible site. I don't know how it started but I think one of the guys getting bashed may have been the kids dad - just guessing though.

Yeah, I just saw that on tv and also the other thread on this site where I read the report just after my post above. I am just gobsmacked at it all. I genuinely hope that poor kid doesn't get effected by this experience and obviously hopefully Jonesy's old man can pull up ok out of this.

Can we keep this about the Cheer squad and deal with the other issue on the other thread? thanks.

BTW, full marks to the Cheer squad, I thought they looked very impressive.

thanks Rhino.... I thought my recognition to the cheer squad had suddenly disappeared.... Felt they needed to be acknowledged, they looked/sounded awesome

Sorry to disappoint you True, but I'm not on the committee and cannot make any changes. I'm not exactly sure what situation you are talking about, although I do know of someone leaving and sitting elsewhere - if that's the case then surely they can sit where they want? The only thing that will make the cheer squad bigger is if more people join. I am already a member, so I've done my bit. If you know of someone who is interested - get them to ring the club and join.

Ah, as far as I know that is a personality thing and I'm staying out of that one. Unlikely that it will be resolved by you or I.

Sorry about that, didn't know there was another thread at the time.

Back on topic of this thread I was pretty surprised at how good our cheer squad looked today (ground level I was on). It was a shame we didn't kick too many goals today because the red and blue haze of flags and scarvs etc looked worthy of a MFC promotional add on tv. Also for a Collingwood home game I thought their cheer squad was pretty tame by their standards - this is probably related to that sacking the cheersquad thing perhaps I don't know. Either way our cheer squad kicked ass from a visual perspective and made a fair bit of noise too - it certainly added to the feel of the game as I was at that end of the ground - well done!

Was down with the squad, well one bay across, and they looked fantastic. I actually went up to level 4 in the shade after half time due to oncoming sunburn, and got to look down into the mass of flags - beautiful sight. I heard you all loud and clear from up there, i hope you all heard me :)

Go Dees.

I thought they had joined last week, behind the Punt Road goals the cheer squad looked pretty big

I thought our supporters got behind the boys really well in the first half, when we get into it we're as loud as anyone.

Just slightly off topic - I noticed the Collingwood cheer squad was slightly 'off centre' - not sitting in between the goal posts but behind the point area - it looked odd. I assume Collingwood sold the behind goal seats to other punters, but it just looks wrong! The floggers & flags should be waving between the goal posts, not just off to the side.

I know Geelong do it too - they also stick the opposition cheer squad in the pocket rather than letting them occupy the other goal area - and that's wrong too.

Don't these clubs know how things are supposed to be done?

I was sitting next to the cheer squad at the Punt Rd end. I thought they looked great and were bloody noisy to be honest! It was terrific in the first quarter! They also kept the 'Melbourne' chant going all day, even when we were clearly going to lose. Hopefully they can get back to the glory days of the red seat area in the old Olympic Stand.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
