Training 23/1

i didnt look too carefully at the make up of the groups to be honest. col was playing as a forward though.

mm i dont mind where the turnovers were coming from, as you say, they were mostly results of defensive pressure (esp at one point when they were playing 11 onto 15)

its more that normally when there is a turnover you have to move to a different part of the ground in order to defend, and that should be automatic in a game if it does happen. my problem is that if they just call "turnover" when there would have been one/was one, but the same team still has the ball in the same spot and keeps going the way they were going - then that behaviour becomes ingrained if you do it enough. and that could mean it takes a split second longer to adjust to the turnover - which in turn could allow an opposition player to get a yard clear, which means they might kick a bloody goal.

its like, if youre going to simulate a game, simulate all of the game, not just bits - unless you want to practice those bits - but then they are isolated, like clearances.

just my opinion anyway.

You guys are only looking at ONE side of the coin here.

Don't forget that the 'opposition' in these drills are MFC players too.

It would be a bit '[censored] poor' if the COULDN'T effect a turnover or two in these drills. To me that shows good defensive pressure. Anyway given they have the 'inside knowledge' on their opponents; ie. their team mates they should be able to sut them down more than the opposition. ;)

Thanks to everyone for all the reports. Keep em coming.

Hopefully I can post my own after next Friday's training so long as all the right planets align so I can make it down there, that is, if they don't cancel beforehand because of the hot weather. :o

A few requests for those going to training next week.

Who's flying? Who's put on weight?

Seriously, as another has posted, who is training in what group? ie. forwards, backs, mids. Are there any surprises?

And if you can remember, in the competitive drills who are direct opponents? ie. Davey vs ? Miller vs ? Newton vs ? PJ vs ? Sylvia vs ? The same names seem to be coming up, and they are all the right names, but someone must be copping a towelling!! :o I haven't seen Bell's name mentioned too often.

Go Dees - Building for the Future.............................to beat Collingwood in another Grand Final.................... or Carlton..................... Essendon............. West Coast, etc, etc,

Hmmn, should we trust you with this intell', you might use against us somewhere down the track.

strauss looked likely. did some excellent chase downs and has pace. he also looks like the sort of little [censored] that supporters will love - and hate. exactly what we need IMHO.

couldnt pick out bail, mainly because i have no idea what he looks like. but strauss caught my eye. he was vocal too, and i spent 30 mins trying to work out who he was, although the nickname straussy is a bit of a giveaway

Thanks, Benno

Yeh from all reports Struass is a top fella. A good private school boy and very likeable, i thought he trained very well yesterday. His kicking is the feature of his game something DB will be keen to promote as much as possible.

Rohan Bail was pretty inconspicuous at training didnt notice him until towards the end of the session when he kicked a nice goal from 40 out on the run, is a good size and has the body to play senior footy now. A real show for the NAB cup.

and thanks, Flashdance

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
