Do the Dockers really want Rich?

If they do, the only way to get him is with our Pick 1, as the Eagles will almost certainly claim him with pick 2.

If the Dockers really do want Rich, then we are their only avenue and trades could be proposed.

Would it then be possible to get Warnock and Mundy for a Melbourne player or two and a swap of picks, 1 for 3.

This could be an attractive deal for both clubs.

Of course if this happened the Eagles might target Watts rather then NikNat.

Interesting!

I think the club has to be cool calm and deliberate. It cant afford to be distracted from its primary objective... i.e make the best use of pick 1.. Warnock ,this is a side story. Unless the clubs involved ( Melb, WCE and Freo ) are all quietly sounding each other out.. (I mean really would this happen  lol ) ..unless Melb KNOWS it can play with its Ace..then it needs to hang on to it.

This is literally like the draft version of the old shell game..where's the pea folks??

careful Melbourne !!

I'd be very careful trading pick one for 3 if warnock is part of that deal. we've all said we would be happy with any one of watts, rich or nat, but if we get warnock, freo take rich, w.c take watts.......i'm not sure we would even want nik nat.

Redleg, I've been wondering about something just like this: melbourne get pick three, mundy and warnock. Freo get pick 1 and one of Bell/CJ/Dunn/Newton. They get a lot more than they would from hawthorn or carlton. Does the option I've listed give up too much?

I don't think so, but I'm a bit cavalier at this time of year.

I think Freo would rather Hawthorns pick 15 than any of those you listed. Freo needs a bit more to do the deal than what you mentioned i think.

No, your option doesn't give up too much.

If we still got Watts at three then we would be getting Mundy and Warnock for one player.

I can't see W.A. clubs taking Watts simply because Watts is dead set on finishing year 12 in Victoria. If he got a sniff that one of Freo or West Coast would draft him, he wouldn't nominate for the draft. This is why I think we'll pick him up, and also why I wouldn't mind swapping picks with Freo for Warnock (but only if we knew with 100% certainly that we can still get our man).

Patty Dangerfield ?? Drafted by the crows last year despite knowing he'd spend this year still at school in Geelong. And he'll be a star.

Could easily be the same with Jack. He's too slight to play next season anyway.

But i guess that didn't stop Cale...

If Melbourne were to swap picks with Freo then I think there's a very strong possibility that Jack Watts may not nominate at all this year. (If he continues to improve and we continue to play the same way next year he'll be there for our first pick in 09 anyway) Who'll be there at 3 if Watts doesn't nominate... one of Vickery, Hurley, Swift, Hartlett - yeah I could live with that if we got Warnock and Mundy for one NQR and dropping two spots in the draft.

It appears that we will know whether or not we will be picking Watts with pick 1 well before the draft itself. Because if Watts nominates it will be because we have told him that we will select him with pick 1. If he doesn't nominate it is because we have said we would be choosing someone else instead.

He has no need to nominate this year unless he is guaranteed to stay in Melbourne. Only one team can give him that guarantee and that is us.

It is worth everything, pick 1.

Melbourne put the blinkers on, pick up Watts.

This is exactly what scares me about our club..... Too often we have these blinkers on! I agree we should be looking very much at Watts, but I just hope we remove the blinkers during trade week....

Maybe Warnock/Mundy and pick 3 for Carroll and pick 1. Don't think West Coast will go for Watts, they've met with NikNat a few times already is my understanding.

Assumption is the mother of all f**kups!!!

Handy to remember that when it comes to trading away our No. 1 pick :o

Yeah, you also have to be aware that a lot of clubs play cloak & dagger at this time of year too...

Yet, cos we've got the first pick, we've probably not bothered to hide the fact we're aiming for Watts. If we suddenly change tact and trade for pick 3 we may have already shown our cards and shot ourselves in the foot.

Tunnel Vision - get the best out there (if thats Watts) then start playing the mind games.

Of course, there's also the possibility than in the clubs eyes there is so little between the top 3 choices that it doesn't matter if we have pick 1, 2 or 3.

And then in the end we'll find out MFC has been playing funny buggers all along and will take Clint Alleway with pick number 1 ;)

Wouldn't that shock the whole the countries foundations....

At first I had reservations in any trade involving pick 1, but thinking it over it does make some sense, provided a sensible deal is struck. I'm not sure we need to offer Fremantle anything else other than pick 1, that is, the deal could be Pick 1 for Mundy and/or Warnock plus pick 3. In essence, Freo gets Rich, we get Mundy/Warnock (we already 'have' Watts).

This would be the ultimate result for the MFC.

So obviously it won't happen.

Pretty sure Mundy will go to Hawthorn.

Don't bet on it, he signed with Freo for two years as did Murphy.
