for the people who are good at number crunching...

i was wondering which team out of WC and Melbourne had the youngest list on the park (average age)

also, is our 22 for today's game, on average younger than carltons/hawthorns?

So are we the youngest side in the AFL right now, and if so, will we still be next season?

Probably not. With some of the guys to come in next year for us, our average age will increase a bit. I reckon West Coast's won't increase as much as ours.

Curious - how could that happen? I would have thought that ' rookies' on current list, if advanced, would be create an even younger age list average, with likely older players going off the list eg Whitey, Yze, Dutchy etc.

That's true, our average list age might decrease, but the age of the guys playing would be a little higher. I reckon West Coast will be in heavy debut mode, while we'll be playing guys who've already played their first game.

Based on debut mode -that makes sense mathematically. Thanks Chook.

According to stats.rleague.com/afl/stats

the side Hawthorn put out yesterday had an everage age of 24y 271 d with combined match tally of 2288 games.

Richmond 23years 271 days combined match tally of 1826

West Coast 23y 197d match tally 1705

Carlton 23y 218d match tally 1797

Melbourne 23y 132 d match tally 1456.

These are different to chooks so I'm not sure there if they are 100% correct. Anyway what remains obvious is that we are fielding the most inexpierenced and young side in the AFL.

Our Average Age was 22.77, while West Coast's was 23.18. Not even six months in it.

And I'm almost positive that our team today was at least a year or two younger than Hawthorn and Carlton's.

ours is easily the youngest going around at the minute and will be for a couple more years l would think

Thanks for those stats Neita, very interesting. Do you have Geelong's by any chance? It would be interesting to see where they are at - when at the 'peak of their powers'.

Carlton are thereabouts also. See the figures above by Neita. Freo are retiring a few this year, next year they will be much younger on average.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
