Turf wicket in the middle of the oval.

Seems a little strange for an AFL club to be established at a ground where it will be competing for pre-season access with a cricket club.

Even VFL teams need cricket-free grounds for pre-season training that runs concurrently with the cricket season.

The RSL club at Rooty Hill is first class.

Actually..on a serious note..

Anyone else notice a curiosity about the plans for this team?

The AFL seem to be allowing a team to play games with a rather small spectating capacity. Seems to all but mirror the capacity of another ground I can think of !!!

I know what your thinking..............but MFC are staying put.

If you read on regarding comments posted by sydneyites via the link you posted, they're "NOT HAPPY JAN", about the AFL infiltrating...Can't say they weren't warned by Demetriou.

Look I think the whole fiasco of the expansion as is perfomed currently by Vlad and Co is laughable. Its expansion at all costs. .damned be any feedback..damned be any common sense.. damned be any listening to due dilligence etc.

Yes I see the point that "how to make friends" is NOT to go treading on toes !! This will really garner a ground swell of grass roots support locally. lol You can just imagine the local pundiits and lay politicians going gang busters in the press etc.

This will not be an easy or popular introduction of the code. Where does Vlad get his ideas from.. 'Poland 101" ???

Still once you have the precendent of a team playing "small attendance games at a Non Blockbuster venue.. it might be hard to argue against it for other participants one would think !! Hell, Geelong get away with it perpetually !!

:lol::lol: "Vlad & Co" :D

I like that term.

Yes, and Geelong are doing very well out of each of their home games. Cooky has done wonders down at Geelong, new stand on its way too for completion late next year I believe, for use in 2010. To increase capacity to 30,000. Its transforming into a boutique stadium as they drag in the profits...

I imagine it's simply an accurate reflection of the market.

Even our poorly attended matches get more than double that ground's capacity.

Heard a good quote on the radio a few weeks ago.

Basically he was saying how many more supporters of AFL could there be in Sydney?

They're already not getting great attendances/memberships/attention, and he said "it's a worry, because it's not like there are footy fans in Sydney that say "i really want to go to the footy this week, but Sydney are playing"

Surely if there was enough interest in footy to support the two teams, the Swans would be a lot bigger than they are at present

I noticed their membership tally dropped off a tad. That's a worry for the club and AFL. But, they have been there since 1982. 26 years in Sydney is a success whatever way you look at it. BRING BACK CAPPER!!!!!! (Joking)

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    POSTGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood

Once again inaccuracy and inefficiency going inside 50 rears it's ugly head as the Demons suffered their second loss on the trot and their fourth loss in five games as they go down to the Pies by 38 points on Kings Birthday at the MCG.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 13 vs Collingwood

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again faced with a classic 8 point game against a traditional rival on King's Birthday at the MCG. A famous victory will see them reclaim a place in the Top 8 whereas a loss will be another blow for their finals credentials.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag
