Davey suspended by Leadership Group

no no no. he was at a funeral in dawrin (the club knew).

He was told to take the 6 oclock flight.

instead, he had a few beers and it wasnt on his mind, so he caught the later flight, and he broke the team rules.

so he is playing for sandy this week and is out of the leader ship group!

If someone close to me died I'd probably have more than a couple of drinks with friends/family to honour their life.

Davey did the right thing by being honest to his teammates and accepting the penatly on the chin.

We only know part of what happened. We dont know if he was intoxicated or missed a flight and also "had a few drinks".

In today's Herald (yes take it with a grain of salt) it was reported that Davey admitted having a few drinks because he was upset, which the club weren't all too fussed about. It was the fact he missed his flight which meant he missed/was late for his physio appointment back in Melbourne.

(Agree with the rest of the post though)

In my opinion it punishes the team more than the individual.

Maybe for a week, but it can only help the team in the long term!

It's done, so no point worrying about rightly or wrongly. That said, I could understand the social pressures he would be under back up north with family, friends etc.

Does anyone know if he'll play in the magoos this week? If so, is that a good idea? He doesn't need to prove his form or get injured with Sandy.

Will they just rest him?

"We bought 11 new players into the club last season, we'll probably bring six or seven new players into the club after the next national draft, and we've got to make sure we've got the right culture, the right values, and are bringing our players through in the right way." CC

This quote makes me happy!

45hotgod, that quote is a bringer of much joy to us all, I reckon.

but perhaps the suggestion is that if we were in a position to play finals we wouldnt be having this sort of problems with offfield behaviour and culture?

hopefully they are attempting to instill a new culture around the place that will see the players professional in their approach on and off the field. and hopefully this will have a flow on effect for on field results.

good point deanox, i hope the club sticks to its guns with this policy, at least our playing group and coaching staff can show some professionalism. lets face it we needed to show it. ta

If the quote a few posts back is accurate, I'm not sure how you get that.

"Given where we're at as a Club, the suspension was appropriate"

ie. Given we're building a new team, with new Coach, and are bottom of the ladder...

That's how I read it, anyway.

what i was saying is that to some extent playing and winning finals is as much about talent as it is about doing the right things off field, and playing for each other.

obviously you can muck up off field and still play well on field, but in these cases, the teams still play for each other and have the 'team mentality' on field. missing sessions and jepodising your performance on the match day isnt a team thing, and would affect our chances of actually playing finals.

ie instilling the right culture will o a long way to helping us make and win finals.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
