"Melbourne's Jack Grimes, picked at No. 14 in the 2007 draft, has been placed back on the club's senior list and will be hoping to play his first game for the year at Sandringham on Sunday"

This is great news, I can't wait to see this kid play but I'm not expecting him to be dominant stright away, I'll be happy with him just getting some game time and building his fitness level.

I presume that this means that Valenti drops back off the list? Not so good.

We actually have room for 3 promoted rookies as we have Neitz (can be replaced because he retired due to injury), Robertson and Moloney as candidates for the long term injury list.

Both Aussie and Valenti remain elevated.

Don't think so... Neitz is still on the injury list... Robbo could be added. Valenti and Wonna can stay. Unless I missed something in between...

Yeah, surely the promoted rookie system works so that Valenti can stay on given we have other LTI candidates.

It does remain to be seen if Valenti will be given any more games though. The coaches haven't persisted with him like they have guys like Bode. Hopefully for him his time will come later.

Ahh, I forgot about Moloney.

Bad for tweak, good for Valenti.

Valenti and Aussie stay. We have three guys with season-ending injuries (Robertson, Neitz, and Moloney), and at least two on the LTI (Neitz and Robertson).

I'm sure it will, given Valenti has been in good form at Sandy over consecutive weeks, and was the 'first' emergency last week. I think he'll be in the squad again this week, and hope he gets the nod on Friday night.

PS. This thread had a bit of discussion re: Grimes' return.

/sigh

I missed that thread...

Edit: aww crap, I even missed the article on Melbourne's website :(

Looking fwd to seeing the former skipper ply his trade. His name will be one to remember hopefully for a long time. ;)

Tremendous to see the back has come good ( touchy things backs.. hope this doesnt haunt him ) . By all accounts he seems a real goer. Have to make a point of seeing a couple more Zebs games .

I look forward to seeing him in red and blue next year.. ( thats NEXT year Mr Bailey ;) )

Good luck Grimesy !!

I appreciate your thought process and see no point in rushing him, however once Jack is match fit and showing sufficient form then I'd be more then happy to see him play 3 to 4 games in the red & blue towards the end of the season.

1/ It gives him a taste of the big time and whets his appetite

2/ It allows us to better assess our list requirements come the end of season drafting | trading etc.

maybe...just a couple then ;)

Hope to see you soon in the mighty Red 'n Blue Jack!!!

I love seeing young fellas who grew up supporting the club they got drafted to..... Hope you kick a$$

wonder how jack is going so far?

love to hear a report from someone that is attending the game

I wasn't there for the Ressies because the Kingswood was particularly uncooperative yesterday morning. However, the reports are that Jack Grimes looked very good. He came on and off the ground due to his lack of match fitness but from all reports from some very harsh judges is that he looked a class above the other guys out there.

There's just something about Grimes and Petterd.

I want more.............

Really cant wait to see this kid in action. I've got a jumper with 16 on it, and I'd like not to have to change it :D

But seriously the guy has big wraps on him. He was a great leader at junior level, a ball winning midfielder/HBF, and would've gone top 10 in the draft if he didnt have back injuries late in the year. It's always good to hear stories like Grimes' where they supported the club growing up and are over the moon to be wearing the red and blue. Hopefully he has a long and fruitful career.

Perhaps with Brock McLean's injury it might create an opportunity for Jack Grimes to get some games late in the season. Good luck to the kid!

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
