Rumours of a $20m Indian saviour

Featured Replies

It was reported on the rumour file this morning on 693 that the Melbourne Football Club is trying to woo an Indian prince who is apparently willing to pledge a cool $20 million towards the club.

Nice coin if we can get it.

However, it's just a rumour at this stage.

Lol and why would an Indian Prince of all ppl want to drop off that amount of coin to the MFC?

Lol and why would an Indian Prince of all ppl want to drop off that amount of coin to the MFC?

Because Neita gave Sachin Tendulkar a MFC guernsey

We are leaving the AFL and will compete in the IPL 20/20 competition in 2009 as the Delhi Demons.

The Raj probably thinks he's getting a Cricket Club !!:rolleyes:

To annoy the Chinese who have already got us to drop the Demon. Turns out the Prince loves Demons and has always wanted his own footy team.

He does understand...he doesnt "get" it...he just contributes ??:rolleyes:

I think he wants all for himself. Imagine we could play Freo in Delhi in front of 100,000 new supporters

Well we do train on a cricket oval most of the year at the junction. Maybe he was here and saw 40 fit-looking blokes running around the wicket area thinking he was getting a whole cricket squad?

We'd have to change our name from MelbourneFC to the Melbourne KnightRiders.

He could deck out the Cheer Squad in Bollywood style :lol::lol::rolleyes::P

Out of all of the rumours I've seen on this site this has to be one of the best.

Our own Indian Roman Abramovich.

Plus play "It's a Grand Old Flag" on sitars and tublas....

Im thinking....Go you mightee Demons ...raj raj raj !!!!

We'll have Naan of this losing...we must thinking about like we are handballing with the hands of Vishnu...we must be kicking like we are Brama..and we must Rama home our wins for the glory of Ganesha..that will send Shivas through the other teams !!;)

No longer would we just sing IAGOF song...there'd be a full on 2 hour sing song prodution

You know i've been thinking about this, and a couple of years ago my dad lost his Demon hat when he went to India. Maybe this prince picked it up and has become a life-long supporter of our great club!

Well how about..... The Mighty HOT Demons .... hot as hell/curry hot !!!!!

A few points.

He may be an Indian prince as in a Rajah, (more likely a steel magnate from Mumbai or a smart lad from Bangalore though) but Raj means a totally different thing. I doubt he'll be jumping up and down celebrating Britain's rule of India for a few hundred years. Apart from the legacy of a great rail network.

It's a 'tabla', never heard of a tubla! Check out any recording of Ali Akbar Khan to hear his tabla player going wilder than Keith Moon could ever imagine.

This rumour may be true though as a few Ganeshas have graced my various abodes over the years. (Good fortune elephant god in the Hindu pantheon for the youngsters.) I always knew the ship would come in!

I'm all for an Indian messiah and I'm ready to convert whenever the $20 mill. hits the table. Looking forward to Holi already. Plenty of red and blue thrown around.

I heard about this rumor a few wees back, linked to a former player who was involved in the deal. I spoke to said player at the Walk To The 'G, and he assured me it was true.

So take that for what it's worth.

And the reason I'm not naming names, he asked me not to.

Wow, it does sound like I'm making it up doesn't it? I'm not one for gossip, and am only telling you what I heard.

well the plot thickens...

is the rumour file just goons calling in making up rumours, or is it rumours that have gotten to the people at 3AW, therefore you'd expect to have reasonably reliable sources...

I hope you get over that problem of yours soon ;) .

I find this story of having an Indian Prince offering us $20 million dollars very hard to believe.

As MFC supporters/member we should try and raise money to keep our club alive through our own efforts.

If 20,000 MFC supporters/members donated $25 a week for 20 weeks (about a season) we would raise $10 million dollars. Over 40 weeks (about 2 seasons) we would have be able to raise our OWN $20 million dollars without any help.

I realise it would take a lot of effort but it would be possible.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
