why didn't we look at him when he did pre-season with us?

i remember hearing he didn't have the attitude for AFL footy... but that can change, and it did change... surely he was worth a rookie selection...

Agreed. But the quality of the source should never get in the way of a good rumour.

Given we have Wona and Flash with Maric potentially up forward I am not sure we have a high demand for another small forwaerd like Alwyn Davey.

True but Aaron and Alwyn have both shown midfield potential. Maybe that is the plan?

On the contrary, Aaron has a limited engine and is restricted on his ability to win the contested ball. He does have some wonderful skills elsewhere though as a finisher. I just dont think we can carry two Davey players of similar style with Wona and Maric in the one side.

He might have a limited engine but he would be an impact midfielder as would Alwyn. I watched an Essendon game earlier this year and Alwyn was in the centre and was responsible for about three clearances in a row. He looked pretty capable.

Also we don't know where Maric will play yet. Maybe forward but he has also been talked about as a midfielder.

I have a question about Aaron's ability due his limited stamina, lack of body size and flaky temperament. I cant give as an informed comment about Alwyn because I have not viewed him as much. But if he is indeed similar to Aaron in those respects then I am not really interested. However I will say that what I have seem of Alwyn is that he is capable in certain situations but he does not have the creative flair of Aaron.

Its a pity that Alwyn had injured his knee in Rd 4. I would really like to see how he travels as part of a midfield right under pressure. And indeed the Essendon midfield has had the blowtorch on them as the season has worn on. Will the knee injury rob him of any pace? I hope not.

I maybe going out on a limb here but I believe that Alwyn would be much better suited to a midfield role. While Alwyn doesn't have the strings to his bow that Aaron has he is more involved in general play and gets to where the footy is more that Aaron. I agree with your point about Aaron's limited stamina and temperament. I see less flakiness and more agression in Alwyn. Alwyn tries to get involved in the game. They actually have quite a few differences and I see different roles for both of them. I think he could become a great first rover and I personally would love to see him at the club. He could be the on ball pace that we are crying out for.

If I was to be really honest with myself and this may sound sacreligious, as much as I love Aaron and he can turn matches, I would prefer to have Alwyn in my side for his consistency and aggression.

I agree. Alwyn has the speed of Aaron but also that in and under side to his game.

I reckon if the price is right two Daveys is better than one.

Alwyn is much harder at the contest than Aaron and more suited to a midfield role. Given Maric is no guarantee to make it and we've now gone a fair way to addressing our inside ability, we need to turn our attention to those that can give run, break the lines, and have some finishing class. Alwyn wouldn't be a bad fit.

The knee reco is a bit of a worry and I wouldn't want to give a top 30 pick, and Essendon won't want to trade him, so I don't see much happening there.

There is no way essendon would want to let him go. Enter PSD pick number 1. If we hold the trump card we can force them to deal.

I agree, but I'd be hoping for better players at pick 1 in the PSD. I'd much rather Robbie Warnock.

I would love to get both but I would prefer Davey. He was getting a lot more of the footy and really showing he could play. Davey is dangerous to an opposition. Warnock is a little more of an unknown.

Alwyn on the ball and Aaron on the wing or f flank with nugget, brock and moloney feeding it out. This would be an on ball brigade that would be taken very seriously by any opposition.
