Robbo..

Just reading the article on melbournefc.com about Miller leading the Dee's attack.

If you haven't read the story.

Just wondering if Robbo's injury is a godsend. Maybe we will find a new forward line that will take us to the level we desperately need. Maybe we will find a different structure/stratergy that no other coaches have thought of because we are forced to.

Thoughts?

yeah my dad who is a blues supporter said the same thing to me.

I think your right hey, im actually excited to see something completely new, its exciting to come up with and develop a whole new forward line which i also why i think Maric would and should be included.

Yes and no. I think when we next get close to losing by 100 points we'll be missing Robbo pretty badly. Also when we get within a few goals of victory we'll be wondering if he would have been the difference.

You can't go year by year having 21 year-olds holding up your forward line, and I dare-say the coaching department will look at putting some older heads in there so it's not a bunch of headless chooks running around. This will mean Holland... and when he plays, much as I love and respect him, you'll be wishing Robbo was still playing, as even if he kicks 4, it's 4 we won't see in the corresponding game next year.

I understand what you mean Dan...but kids don't stay kids forever.

Do you think we need to set a forward line and stick to it or use the rest of the year to "test" players in these positions?

I wouldn't call it a Godsend, because i love Robbo, but i'm excited what it could mean.

Miller around goals, Sylvia if he pulls his finger out, one of our most important players in Matty Bate can start sticking around the forwadline and sticking some marks. PJ can be the big body that allows Davey loose ball to attack, along with Aussie who is also a mobile forward.

Each of these can put pressure on the Defence, when they pull their finger out, and most importantly, each one is mobile.

Now i prey this doesn't become mobile in a 'now they can play in the midfield' type, but more, one that, with a skillful midfield that we can hopefully develop, will be multi-pronged and pretty potent i reckon

Sorry guys but I've seen enough of Miller to know that he'll never be our saviour at FF.

Average kick and mark for someone of his size, he'll create a contest but thats about it.

Bring back Jako... !

Hopefully this is a case of short term pain for long term gain. Maybe Newton or Miller or Bate will thrive with the added responsibility. Then again maybe not...

Miller's best game was against Freo. Thats what he needs to reproduce. I think he probably could with good delivery intothe fwd line. Someone new has to have a go though. Newton, Maric whoever, they have to test some kids.

I'm not saying don't bring Holland but they need to try something different. Rivers maybe?

This is all dependent on whether we get Nick Naitanui or Robbie Warnock, so as we can release P. Johnson to play as a Lynch-like power full-forward.

FF - Wonaemirri, P. Johnson, Maric

HF - Davey, Bate, Miller

Rotating through... Sylvia, Dunn, Newton

I could see this forward-line working well in the future... has a combination of strength (Johnson & Miller), defensive pressure & pace (Davey & Wonaemirri). Bate has that booming kick that a good forward line needs. Maric is a bit of an unknown... but from all reports, he can provide that miraculous spark. Sylvia is a hard match-up... but he looks better on a half-back flank (hopefully he ends up on the ball). I still reckon Dunn will be better up forward than as a tagger. Newton is another unknown... could be a star, could be a dud. Time will tell

Keep testing players out, positions, strategies etc.

It aint about the lader.. It's about developing the future with young talent who'll have a real crack & put on a fine show whilst learning.

FB - Carroll, Frawley, Holland

HB - Sylvia, Rivers, Bartram

CL - Davey, Bruce, Morton

HF - Green, Bate, Maric

FF - Wonaemirri, Miller, Newton

.R - White, Mclean, Jones

Int - Garland, PJ, CJ, Moloney

Gee thats a worry about Bailey flagging Brad Miller is the man to to take over the forward line.

You know you are in trouble when a VFL level is your next big hope.

A curious thing this one.

Firstly.. I wish no player injury or harm. Secondly its no real intention to besmerch a club stalwart..

BUT !!!

I'll lay my cards fair and square on the table..then you can all line up with daggers.. so be it.

I see this as a good thing if not truly palatable.

To be honest Robbo has been playing a game thats pretty high on teh crapometer this year. Very few moments of zing or the deash he's had in the past. If this is our key forward, they to be frank we're in deep do-do. Exhibit 'A" ...the 30 sec mark of the Demons-Saints debacle. Thats where his head is. Of no use to use.

That this forces a rethink / rejig of our forward line ..actually the creation of one is more apt !! Then good. Do we put Miller there...why the f**k not !! Its a [censored] year..might as well have that flavour icing hey !!

But.. he migh tjust do something. His marking would newed to be a 1000 fold improvemtn on the other day. His kicking has improved.. well it would have to..he IS actually kicking it now.

The true way forward is with one of the kids or possibly PJ down the sharp end supported by Maric and co. That might have a chance. Thats probably next year.

SO...

Is this a Godsend ? NO. Thanks Robbo.. ..wish you a slow and ful lrecovery..consider your future well.. ( keep in mingd youre unlikely to return until sometime 2009.. no preseason..and limited days going forward. Think about that. Practice your singing.

Is this an opportunity od sorts.. well. vacancies always provide that dont they !!

Now..please make an orderly line over >>>>>>>> take a number and sharpen knife :)

Is that JAKO or JACKO ?

I think the days of the huge power forward are over.

The body types of the Plugger, Gherig and to some degree Neitz, i beleive, are sought out less and less.

The way to go is the Franklin, Mooney and J. Brown, strong and tall but fast off the mark.

Miller has the right body type, is not a turtle and has the skill (when he feels like it.)

What is it that is stopping him from becomming one of the new day forwards?

Y_M, you may answer if you are not just wanting to bag him :P

I feel for Robbo so much, but we now have the chance to try something totally new. Neitz and Robertson were so predictable simply because the forward line had been operating the same way for a very long time. It was the old one-dimenional power-forward style, easy for teams to work out.

Now we have a chance to have a forward line operating like Sydney's with O'Keefe and O'Loughlin running amok and of course if we only had the Swans accountabilty, discipline, drive and passion all the better.

Do you think Miller would get into any other AFL Team?

Freo shockers of course

I think Miller would be picked up by another team. He is Young, strong and has potential.

Many on this board think other teams don't want our players but i feel that is only true because the people on this board are only looking at how we are playing as a group, not players individual performances. Do you really think no other team would want Bate, Davey, Aussie, Sylvia, Brock, Rivers and i could go all day.

Yes and no. I think when we next get close to losing by 100 points we'll be missing Robbo pretty badly.

........ so he can kick his 2 or 3 junk time goals to get us within a flattering 80 odd points..

........ so he can kick his 2 or 3 junk time goals to get us within a flattering 80 odd points..

That's exactly what I mean. There's a difference between getting done by 60-80 points and having it tick over into 100+ record breaking territory.

So it begs the question, who will win our goalkicking this year?

So far, Robbo is on 20 and gone for the rest of the year.

Next best are Aussie on 12, Green on 11 and Jones on 8.

With Green nowadays playing as a sweeper/wingman, Aussie still a rookie who will have his inconsistencies (like last Sunday at the Dome), and Jones is a midfielder.

Will Robbo end up our leading goalkicker on a paltry 20?

Robbo may never play again. I think his days of taking "Hangers" is all but gone. New Times for our club. Exciting indeed
