Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Here's a replay of last year's Coolmore Classic won by 'Heavens Above'  ... the Coolmore Classic is the only Group 1 event being held next Saturday although there are a host of other Group 2 & 3 races being held at Moonee Valley (Friday evening),  Rosehill & Flemington.

Here's the latest odds for the race (Shoals running?)

Thanks for that. Had a look at the TAB before....no Shoals there either....was in last night? The perils of all in betting. Strange distance 1500m.

Top weights look ok. Dont mind Silent Sedition and Bring me Roses.

I like about 6 - 8 horses in the race Wadda ... it's a shame Shoals is out but they've probably set the horse for another big event or 2.  There's a lot going on in Sydney over the next 6 weekends.

Normally at this time of the racing season we tend to switch our attention to Saturday arvo footy but as previously noted,  the Demons only play 2 Sat arvo games and apart from our Sat arvo game against North on April 7th,  there's not that many neutral games on a Sat arvo that grab my attention.

From about round 6 the Sat arvo games hold a bit more interest but again,  no Demon representation apart from @ Gold Coast 12th May 4.45pm,   @ Bulldogs (Docklands) 2nd June 1.45pm & vs Bulldogs (MCG) 14th July 4.45pm.

Do you blokes know much about James Jordan?  Works as the SA form analyst for Racing.com & Channel 7.  Seems to really know his stuff and even McAvaney seemed very impressed with him during Monday's Morphettville coverage.

Where can I get his tips?

Here's a feature article about James from a few months back

He goes to quite some detail in working out how a race will be run ... worth following?

Some interesting thoughts in that article. We might have to pick our “Best” in Tasmania or Northern Territory. Good insight by him on those states.

I don’t know much about him Macca and have only seen him on the racing.com channel giving his selection before each race at the track he’s at. He does have a twitter account but unsure if he gives any tips out.

Liked his best betting story also. Safe to say Atlantic Jewel was slightly above average.

Thanks D77

I think I've figured out that he does the tips for the South Australian races only (on the Racing.com website)  For instance,  the following link lists the Naracoorte races and the tips could well be his.  Naracoorte Racing.com

I've noted all the tips and will look at the results tomorrow night ... obviously I'm looking at James doing the work for me re trifectas at Morphettville on a Saturday.

I enjoy doing the form for the Feature or Group races wherever those races are held but I find the non feature races to be hard work and quite difficult.  I'd rather spend more time on the bigger races.

Reading that article highlights how much science goes into the sport these days.  It's incredibly thorough what with all the racing patterns and racing maps.

Lot of science and a lot of luck as well.... If you aint got the luck.......The Adelaide Cup is such a good example of that i thought....

That was a great read thanks Macca. Interesting that he worked at Tom Waterhouse.......that would have been an eye opener.....still dont know how you can have a betting agency when your mum is the head trainer in the State.   ....and your dad was......well, not great with a can of paint....

Some good fields this weekend and most of the races were up on the futures at the TAB.

Whatever happened to Tom Waterhouse? I remember him popping up on the telly late at night spruiking his own company.

Edit: Maybe I should have gone through a google search prior to posting. He’s the CEO of William Hill.

I was very impressed with the bloke yesterday ... level headed,  really knowledgeable and you could tell that Bruce was quite impressed too.

I usually leave the form in SA & WA till last and to be perfectly honest,  the form from those States is often just too hard for me to work out anyway (save for the big races)  James' tips creates a shortcut which might just pay off.

Indeed Macca indeed. I dont bet in SA much, but i used to a bit and did ok. Any good heads up is worth following.

By the way were up to page 40 and closing in on 1000 posts....that was quick. Good going for 3 or 4 committed lunatics..

A bit more of a search on him found he’s building a reputation as one of Australia’s leading form analysts. Will keep a keen eye out for his tips.

Also, I noticed yesterday “Lite’n In My Veins” won around the $2.50 price.

Which will probably mean James will end up in Sydney or Melbourne sooner rather than later ... could be a case of striking while the iron is hot!

I'm bound for South Australia (trifecta style)

And yeah,  I watched Lite'n In My Veins win yesterday  D77 and thought about the time you mentioned it as a former group horse in that Zephyr race when it ran 2nd.  It's won a couple of times since and it beat a few decent horses yesterday.

Going early with my best bet ...

Flemington  Race 5 (Blamey Stakes)  No.1  Tosen Stardom (2.40)

The extra furlong up to the Mile helps and with only 6 in the race,  Rawiller should be able to get an ideal run for the horse.

I also like a few up in Sydney but they are also very short

Im going to go Rosehill R4 No1 Written By. 2.00. Its pretty short and Spin is paying the same for a place. But its either super competitive races or short favourites.

I also like Bring me Roses for a place in the Coolmore.

Best Bet.

Morphetville R9 No. 5 Despatch. $2.90

Coming off a 65 week break but recent barrier trials have been impressive.

Really struggled this week to find a “standout”.

Yes its a hard week. Well those 3 bets add up to 14/1 approx. Not to bad in the end.

Decent price, yeah hard day coming up I feel, you and Macca didn’t leave me much choice. Liked the two you selected also.

Despatch is a bit of risk at that price with a long layoff. They decided to give it a lengthy break after they gelded it. Maybe a complication followed but showed a lot of promise in two race starts. It’s not an overly strong field but I like the fact it is out of Written Tycoon and the McEvoy/Kah combination.

So here are the 3 best bets (with 1 more to follow) ...

Rosehill  Race 4  No.1  Written By (2.30 enhanced)

Flemington  Race 5  No.1  Tosen Stardom  (2.45 best available)

Morphettville  Race 9  No.5  Despatch  (3.30 best available)

A multi returns about 14-1 as Wadda indicated but backing the horses separately could return about 18-1 if you let the winnings ride.

I like all 3 tips and I reckon we're in with a big show this week.

Alister Clarke Stakes on in 15 minutes ... Cliff's Edge is now odds on but should be too classy for this lot.   Hope so anyway

By the sounds of it Cliff's Edge mightl be spelled now although the connections may be tempted to race it in next week's Rosehill Guineas (2000m)

Hard to see the horse being backed up a week later over the 2000 metres though ... there's 1 or 2 other 200k races for 3yo's that they might target over the Sydney carnival.  I really like the horse and it's front-running style.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
