Thanks GTG, just tried to subscribe (it's $7 for 7 days) so would have been perfect but you need Adobe flash player which this 'device doesn't support' (IPad 1) Other ideas / modifications gratefully appreciated

SOS to any fellow demon travellers. I'm in Singapore and very keen to watch the game (5 of us) Can anyone shed some light on watching the game - by TV, cable, Internet? I think normally it would be on the Australian Network but as its a public holiday in Melb but not here, it doesn't seem to be televised. Thanks in advance

Did you start barracking for Melbourne this year or something? Midfield is the start of the problem

Dale Thomas springs to mind. I used to take great delight in yelling out 'Show us ya hard ball gets' whenever Daisy accidentally went near a contest. A different cat now

Bateman is 31 next month Noooooooo

To anyone there, where was Bennell playing?

Dermie and Robert Walls on SEN
Roger Mellie replied to Norm Smith's Curse's topic in Melbourne Demons
IHave had a wine or 2 this eveninhg so dates are not forthcoming, but does anyone remember during the Daniher era, that we would have finished at the south end of the ladder, the previous year. We would win a couple of games and then be scheduled to play last/second last on the ladder (Richmond/Carlton - whoever). They would towel us up. I could never fathom how we didn't think we needed to turn up to play against sides lower than us on the ladder, when we had achieved absolutely nothing. For me that's when the rot set in -
I agree Sellar was a bit ordinaire and couldn't mark the pill to save himself but I liked his attack on the footy. He was playing relief ruck, so unless Martin or Fitzpatrick come in, Sellar will likely stay.

Tom McDonald v Nick Riewoldt was an inspired move. Who else has the tank to run with him? It was super-impressive and T-Macs disposal was a huge improvement on last week(s). It begs the question: McDonald has just been taught by the mistro about how to run and run and run in the forward line. Riewoldt couldn't get away from him. Do we now play McDonald in the forward line given he has some grounding in the forward line (preseason x 2 and Casey) and that he now knows how to run his opponent into the ground or does he stay in the the back line, learning his craft?

Jones + Moloney + McKenzie + Couch = plodders
-
I've been a Jones critic, but after the first 3 games this year I thought Neeld was the best thing for him and he's shown all the signs of thriving - until yesterday. Jones turned his game around in the second half and deservedly wound up in the best players. His first half was poor and back to the old chunk - 2 or 3 pairs of arms wrapped around him and Jones going nowhere or banging it on the boot to no one. Prior to yesterday, he's been one of our best players and I continue to believe that Neeld will bring out the best in him. It makes me wonder what happened in the first half. Jordie and Magner effectively took Griffen and Boyd out of the contest to give Jones and Moloney a good run at it. It makes me wonder if Moloney and Jones can't work together in the midfield - not from want of trying. It's only one game but just scratching my head. BTW - 11 Melb players had effective disposals under 60% - not good

Out: Lynden the fraud Dunn. Has anyone noticed how his chase only starts when his opponent is beyond reach. He put more effort and energy into pestering Murphy than playing footy. He put more effort into bumping his opponent after the umpire has signalled time on than playing footy- tough guy. In: Petterd

Yes hypothetical, but surely the question is who would you want lining up for us - I would say Scott Thompson is a gun and a given, Brock - no, Jolly might be handy but is struggling, Buckley maybe, Junior is a hard one - we need the leadership, but disposal is still a) lollypop and B) ordinary; Tom Scully - Yes but most would choke on their Weeties, Kyle Cheney could teach us a few things about disposal but it would be without speed (would have him ahead of Bartram, Bennell etc. but forget the rest
-
Tom Couch is a bit quicker than Brock but not much - end of discussion

Head high tackles...."drawing frees"
Roger Mellie replied to Jumping Jack Clennett's topic in Melbourne Demons
Watching the debacle last week v West Coast. i reckon half the Eagles have taken a leaf out of Joel Selwood's Compendium of 'Picking up Dodgy Frees by Dropping Your Knees' Volume 2 -
I just don't understand how we stopped dead in the third quarter. The players would have received a major rev-up at half time based on previous third quarter efforts. Richmond stroll through with 9 goals and zero resistance. How does every player (excluding Jones from memory) stop dead like that. Soul-destroying stuff
-
No it was MacKenzie and better still, he wound up with the free
-
Don't know what the hell's wrong with Garland - I'd be reluctant to drop him - stick him on the wing or up forward and bring in Davis or move Sellar back (prefer Davis). I wouldn't be surprised if the SME is NQR in the hip department (out SME in Fitzy) In Couch - Out Bate Morton was fine in the first half apart from one of the worst second efforts I've ever seen - then confidence dropped to round his ankles and game over. Put him forward / wing or Casey
-
I'd like to see Bartram on Cotchin. It is fanciful to think our mids can go with there's head to head and it's not like Bartram's killing it in the back line.
-
What about players like Thomas Bugg - who are in there second year at GWS? Do they come out of contract at the end of this year? Wouldn't mind a Rory Sloane
-
Out Green - he put his body on the line once in the first quarter (maybe once again - cant remember - don't care - OUT
-
Hmm slowest forward line I've clapped eyes on. Bennell would add some dash but I wouldn't expect too much change while trying to implement a new game plan Midfield ditto

Round 1 - who's looking better - Tigers or Dees?
Roger Mellie replied to Norm Smith's Curse's topic in Melbourne Demons
Newman Frawley Houli Grimes Garland Delidio Trengove D Martin Watts Sylvia Clark Howe Jurrah Riewolt Nahas Jamar Cotchin Magner I: Vickery, Conca, Jones, Moloney Not bad - could flick a few but don't have the team lists at my disposal Not sold on Houli and Nahas or Moloney at the moment -
Ashton Hams could give Davey and Blease a few tips on the role of the small forward - hunting the footy, sticking your head over the pill and tackling with purpose.
