Listening to Neil Mitchell's interview with AD this morning, I'm left with little doubt that we told out and out lies to the AFL. I don't think I've ever felt so deeply embarrassed by this club. Just to rub salt into the wounds. Neeld comes out and effectively throws in the towel for Sunday's game. Brilliant

Why Jetta out? He didn't get too many touches but at least he was composed and used the footy well. His off the ball work was excellent too. Unlike 80% of the team, he knows what a block is. Also laid some ripper tackles. What astounded me is every time he came on the ground he went to the opposite end of the ground. Back then forward, back then forward x 15. How the hell are you supposed to settle, get momentum doing that? I'm not surprised with the resulting number of touches.

FYI, An idiot friend of mine signed up my dearly departed hound to Hawthorn FC 10 years ago, the scoundrel! My dog received the offer in the mail a couple of weeks with Hawthorn (having been a member for 1 year, ten years ago). I didn't get one though. Edit: The Hawthorn ad's different = 'Looking to go 1 better' For those interested, my dog was a true blue demon and HFC mail was returned to sender with a couple of charming words added.

Can Melbourne win a premiership with its current list?
Roger Mellie replied to Young Dee's topic in Melbourne Demons
Hence the qualifying sentence at the end - 'there are a few question marks .... I didn't think I was being hugely optimistic. i think we have some decent players, some decent potential but also some decent gaps on the list. By the end of the season we should have a better picture of the new and recycled recruits -
Can Melbourne win a premiership with its current list?
Roger Mellie replied to Young Dee's topic in Melbourne Demons
We've got 2/3 of a premiership list: Back Frawley Back Watts McDonald Grimes Barry Trengove Blease Howe Hogan Toumpas Dawes Clark Fwd Gawn Viney Jones I/C I/C I/C Sub There are a few question marks in there: Gawn, Watts, Dawes and the rookies and a few others (not listed) that may make the grade -
NAB CHALLENGE: GOLD COAST SUNS v MELBOURNE
Roger Mellie replied to Gorgoroth's topic in Melbourne Demons
No, I think Dawes is out too (with a hammy) -
He's not there for his defensive skills

As a fifth year player I hope he kills it too. The big difference is, for the first time, he's done a preseason and a good one at that. I'd be happy to consign an injury prone underachiever to the scrap heap after 4 years, but I'd like to actually see what he can do given he's finally fit. The OTHER reason, as listed below is his versatility.
-
1) Finally has had his first preseason and is fit(ter) and to me looks a bit faster 2) Can kick (and tackle) and has footy smarts 3) Can play forward, back or middle He's fighting for a spot with Nicho, who IMO cant kick and turns the ball over. I like Nicho's run and carry, he's hard at it, runs all day and never gives up. I'm even expecting Nicho to be in the side, but I think Jetta (if he gets a sniff) will be far more damaging with the pill

Getting closer to a round 1 line-up after 3 games: Watts Frawley Dunn Grimes McDonald Garland Rodan Viney Sylvia Kent Pedersen Howe Sellar Dawes Byrnes Jamar N Jones McKenzie I/C Jetta Terlich Toumpas Sub: M Jones If fit: replace Kent with Blease, M Jones with Trengove and Pedersen with Clark, or not fit: McDonald with Gillies Not keen on dud disposal hence the omission of Magner, Nicho, Joel Mac, Evans Not sold on Grimes in the middle Believe Terlich has earned a spot and Jetta can play back, forward or the middle Strauss and Tapscott haven't played enough or done enough

Add the Mission sponsorship snatched out from under us by mangy dogs

Anyone know who the subs are and have any been used?

Giben our list deficiencies I'd be happy with one of: Wizard - small forward Scott Thompson (or Tingay) - mid Whelan - small back

Pick your fringe player for round 1 and the rest of the season
Roger Mellie replied to DeeSpencer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just watched the replay and I like Jetta and Terlich for the vacancies, based on that game. Not sure how those two fit in but at least, Jetta can play back, forward and in the middle Yes Magner got plenty of it, but I still would pass given the shocking disposal. Kent and Tapscott showed a bit too. I found it tricky picking out some of the players -
Therein lies the difference, Baker was a thug. Dunn's a niggler / pest

Great - look forward to your report!

Because he did sod all last Friday night (even for a NAB Cup game)

If the 'squealer' had previously supplied her an untrue story designed to embarrass the club - I would assume the something like the Davey / Mifsud pulava, then why would Caro trust said squealer again? It doesn't make any sense. What I cant stand in all of this, is that we cant seem to escape this crud. We seem to be eternally dogged by issues that one way or another make us a longstanding joke of a club - whether it be factionalism, unprofessionalism, vendettas blah, blah blah.
-
In other words it's going to be 40 degrees! We have to travel to bf nowhere to play in 40 degrees. We would take Casey players if we could Mickey Mouse game that will take a lot out of players

I feel the need to draw your attention to hair-dos. On Friday night, I think we witnessed 3 of the top 10 shocking hair-dos in the league. Jack Pepe le Pew Riewoldt. What the hell is that? Did you scalp a polar bear and glue it to your noggin? Dustin Martin - Setting the pace in bogan Maric - A mullet is wasted without traccy dacks and moccs The Watts beard makes him look tough(er) if nothing else

For those that didn't see it a rough player by player guide: Hogan - a gun in the making, marked strongly, hit targets, pushed off his opponent, huge. Will be a huge asset to the club. Boy do we need him this year Jones - 14 disposals in first half. Set for another great year Watts - Good game, good vision and clean disposal. No sign of hitting a contest hard yet. Will get attention in the real stuff Toumpas - Had 6 or 7 possessions in the 2nd half (didn't play 1st half). Clean, smooth, composed, class written all over him Dawes - Didn't get much of it but plenty of traffic direction - one good mark, good contesting and second efforts. While Hogan clearly had the better game, Dawes was pretty important as a forward line general. Didn't play 2nd half and forward line crumbled Viney - did some great work but just finding his feet - goes flat out. Used sparingly in 2nd half (as was Hogan) Frawley - Was looking for the Frawley of old, but mainly ridding himself of a few cobwebs, better in first half before injured. Kicking style would not look out of place on a rugby pitch. Byrnes - busy and will be an important player in the short term. Good disposal and quite clean Sylvia - drifted in and out of game - not much McKenzie - off ball work good. Shocking disposal and not great choices. Could count effective disposals on one finger. I hope he was just rusty Dunn - found a lot of the footy and could have had better ball use. Needs to work on when and how to punch (ball and opponent) Roden - Half a dozen touches in the first half - most of them to our advantage. Sprinted away with the ball from one contest in fine style (didn't play in 2nd half?) Grimes - Cobweb clearer, just OK (being a little bit generous but worked hard) Blease - loved the look of his game before injured early and did not return. Looks to me to have lifted his game up a rung or two, mainly with his running Srauss - DNP Garland - OK to Good defensive game killed by disposal ordinaire - more cobwebs Pedersen - Looked like he'd never played with the MFC before which is fair enough. One good dish off was about it. Finding his feet. Magner - Tried hard bit looked a plodder to me McDonald - Looked very rusty. No sign of disposal improvement but not much to go on. Caught out of position at times. Just OK Nicholson - Took the game on but unsure of how to use the footy. Suspect disposal Gillies - Didn't see much of it but reasonably strong in defence and liked his 2nd efforts (played first half only?) MacDonald - hard at the contest but rotten disposal, yuck (played 2nd half) Sellar - Played 2nd half. Not much action from him but to me looked a bit tougher at the man, aggressive Evans - A few nice efforts and touches. Would like to see more. Should've kicked that goal (played 1st half only) Kent - Finds space in traffic and a nice kick. Looks a good pick up (played 1st half) Davey - Bothered by opponent (again) but had a go without much effect. His clean disposal would have been useful Howe - set for a good year. Hard at it. 2 good marks for goals and looks to have improved kicking for goal. Would have missed one or both last year Jetta - OK, fairly quiet - a few good tackles but generally knew what to do with it. Caught out of position once or twice. Would like to see more Jamar - Rusty and slow Spencer - Rusty, slow and later injured (played 2nd half) M Jones - Played 2nd half. Few touches so not enough to comment Terlich - Played 2nd half. Not too many touches but looks like he will adapt quickly. Sensible use of footy Couch - Played 2nd half and played well which I didn't expect. Good at clearances and OK disposal. Not enough for an upgrade in my view but depends on injuries Fitz - DNP

Don't know about that, but there's an app called 'Tune In' and it will tune you in to any radio station on the planet (live). You then go to local radio and 'sport'. Otherwise there is a free SEN app that will give you the audio. Tune In costs a dollar or 2 but is great.
