  1. I only watched the last five minutes, while I agree about the kick not being 15 metres I also thought Richmond got away with a couple of throws in that period.
  2. First live game in 18 months…. Just popped up the shops in my VFL retro hoodie, picked up a MND beanie for my beautiful fiancĆ©. Before the game I’ll be breaking out the 2021 membership scarf out of its cryovacced packaging for her to wear, I’ll be running a 2014 of similar. Aiming to get to Moore Park about 1, enjoy some lunch then of to the G, the SCG. Cant beat live footy, missed it so much.
  3. I didn’t agree with your comment.
  4. Gawn and Lever recently re signed after their previous ( large by all accounts) contracts finished. So I’d nearly be tempted to put them down into the next bracket and put TMac into that 700-750 bracket. You’ve also listed Petracca twice and I’d have Ben Brown in the 400-500 bracket. But yes things would be tight.
  5. He looked alright against North and the Swans. He kicked 64 goals in 2019, this season isn’t over yet.
  6. Comments like these…. Hasn't played for three weeks and has still achieved more than Weideman. A long way to go before this season is done.
  7. Can’t be serious.
  8. Due to circumstances out of my control I was unable to get to Melbourne earlier in the season and also missed last Friday night against the Lions but I’ve secured two tickets to Queens Birthday. Can’t bloody wait.
  9. McDonald is contracted for next year. Plus if Brown can remain injury why can’t he put together 2-3 good years at theMFC?
  10. So Ben Brown is finished as an AFL player then?
  11. Port were a tough skilful side and as good and as dominant as they were during the home and away seasons they only managed the one flag. Saints were dominant for a period of time, when Goddard took that screamer in the goal square I thought they’d broken their drought. A week later when the GF was replayed they went missing. As for ā€œGoing all out for a flag this year even if reducing the chances of a flag overall ā€œ, We gave up picks 26, 33 and a future 4th rounder for Brown so we hardly sold the farm. You could argue we may lose Weideman for lack of opportunities, if he chooses to leave so be it, Hawthorn went on to win two more flags after Buddy walked to Sydney. We effectively beat the Bulldogs and Lions with minimal input from him. Your assuming that Weideman is going to become a consistently good player, he may well do that and we all hope that he does but right now it’s not happening for him for whatever reason. I mentioned in an earlier post that Geelong’s and Richmond’s window is coming to an end and that ours is opening, I believe with the talent we’ve got we can be competitive for years. I always hear two things mentioned throughout the seasons, firstly ā€œdefence wins premiershipsā€ and secondly ā€œhe’s the type of forward you build a team aroundā€. We have the best defensive set up in the competition, after our last two wins you could argue we have if not the best, the 2nd or 3rd best midfield. Now I’m not suggesting that Brown is a Franklin or Riewoldt, but he has managed to kick a truckload of goals three years in a row for side that continually struggled and barring injury has a couple of years left in him. Weid been given an opportunity this year and has been underwhelming, he’s still getting by on potential whilst I thought Brown showed some good form against North then Sydney. I would love to see Brown now get a run of games to see what he can produce when allowed to settle with the team. As always the coaches know more than us so time will tell.
  12. No, you must play your best side whenever possible, you may never get another chance. History is exactly that. Geelong won 07, 09 & 2011. There was potential there for 5 in a row. Tiger won 2017, 19 & 2020. In 2018 Collingwood beat them at their own game….manic pressure. They could have had 4 in a row. Id happily take one flag, I could only dream of three. But imagine four or five straight. We can’t leave anything to chance, we can’t simply wait for someone to come good whilst we have better waiting in the wings. Another loss like that Adelaide one (and no I’m not suggesting that loss was Weideman’s fault, though would of been nice if could have touched the ball in the last qtr) could cost us a top 2 finish.
  13. As good as the start to our season has been if we don’t win a flag it means close to nothing, what we would be able to salvage is that we know our best is good enough to beat anyone, also that Richmond and Geelong are closer to the end of their window and ours has just opened. But it would be hard not to see this year as a missed opportunity if we don’t achieve the ultimate. We only need to look at the Adelaide game to see how easy things can go the other way regardless of who we may beaten have before. If Brown or any other player for that matter makes us as little as 1% better they must come in. There’s can be no more room for feel good story’s, Jones got his 300th on a night of timely occasion but that’s it, are to we believe that he might get a late call up should we make the GF, a fitting way (should we win) for him to end his career. The justification as to why Weid should not make way for Brown is almost laughable considering the modern history of our club.
  14. Great post.
  15. There’s a thread started recently titled ā€œOur kids are doing greatā€, not only are our young players doing great but the majority of our players have made improvements in their games. To suggest Weid hasn’t had any decent development is not true. He was drafted in 2015 so he’s had Roos and Goodwin as senior coaches as well as assistants including Brendan McCartney, Alan Richardson and more recently Choco and Yze. But since when has kicking Beene now issue of his? He had a shocker last night, but he is normally a great set shot, his misses last night were very gettable. Our defence is outstanding but not the only reason where winning goals, and yes we could be winning by more but we still don’t have a settled forward line. Players need to accept some accountability.
  16. I think the last couple of years have been different. A lot of people aren’t saying trade him, we’re simply saying drop him. Before last night’s game it was his marking ā€œhe’s getting to contests but they’re just not stickingā€, but last night his kicking was off too. Full forward is a key position, no one would have us where we are without a settled forward line. Just because we’ve been winning doesn’t mean we can’t improve. As people have also mentioned someone might have an off game but other players star. He’s had 4 games now and done very little. I would like to see Ben Brown give a run of 4-6 games to let him settle into the side.
  17. And he’s had years.
  18. A key forwards job is so exactly that and he’s not. I don’t care that Ben Brown did nothing two weeks in the VFL, he’s an experienced proven player that never should have been dropped to begin with.
  19. I wish I was there, due to some personal family reasons was unable to go. Will be looking at getting tickets for QB though.
  20. I don’t want to see him go either, but problem is as we know is there’s already not enough talent for 18 clubs as it stands. If we go deep into September and he’s not part of it, the offers will come. Still a long way to go this year, as we’ve already seen a lot can happen.
  21. Yes some reactions are, as you’ve mentioned before sometimes the disposal going inside fifty isn’t great but come finals that’s going to be par for course. I think an earlier poster nailed it when they said ā€œwhen your only getting x number of possessions you need to be nailing those goalsā€. His kicking let him down tonight, we know he’s better than that.
  22. Hipwood was massive in the first half, Daniher is the most unpredictable player in the competition. But I don’t know much about Brisbane’s list, have they got a experienced full forward with three consecutive years of kicking 60+ plus goals sitting back in the seconds unable to get a game. Again like the win last week against the dogs, when the game was effectively won Weid was not sighted. We know the talent is there but again, if Brown got dropped for a poor sighting against Carlton then it’s time for the Weid to go back.
  23. So has he kept his spot for next week based on that performance? No doubt he has talent but he has effectively gone missing for large parts of all the games he’s played this year. His set shots tonight showed a man devoid of confidence. He’s had his chance and now it’s time to let Ben Brown settle in the side.
