The Drums are starting to beat for North
Bombay Airconditioning replied to Sir Why You Little's topic in Melbourne Demons
Every year clubs put forward their wants in terms of the draw. Most Melbourne based clubs want to play Collingwood at the MCG as their home game. Rd 2 this year St.Kilda played their home game against them at the G. Essendon play them twice this year at the G. Rd 1 2023 Geelong played their home game against the Pies at the G then come finals regardless of opponent want to play in Geelong. We should be thankful Collingwood gave us the gate takings to QB for so many years in a row because it was our highest earning game for the year. -

So Xander is his son, thanks google. So all those years Queen's birthday was our home game. Numerous times he helped other clubs finding sponsorship. But I get it, a lot of people don’t like him. -

Xander? I don’t get this. -

Disagree, Eddie has done a lot for the game including helping struggling teams over the years including the Bulldogs and us. He’s well connected and cares about the future of the game. -

Agree but how many can a competition sustain? Right now we have 3-4 on average per year. -
What will our mindset be? I’d be treating the next two games with a finals like mindset. Don’t want to be that team that makes the 8 on the back of beating teams outside the 8.

Current ladder positions after 7 rounds 14th Saints 2 wins 15th Eagles 2 wins 16th Tigers 1 win 17th Hawks 1 win (against North) 18th North 0 wins Let’s revisit this after 10 rounds then again at the half way point of the season. Some of the games currently being played are sub standard. We can’t continue to dilute our product and just throw up the next tv rights deal as being the saviour of everything. An earlier post said North are just a couple of key defenders and a small fwd away from being competitive, for every 5-6 Ben McKay’s there’s 1 Steven May. It’s not that easy. If we had Hawkins and Cameron playing for us we’d be potentially looking at 4 flags in a row. 18 teams is working, just, the top 8 finals system works. Yes Tasmania deserves a team but it must come at the expense of an existing Victorian club. Whether or not you like the Giants or Suns, two teams in NSW, QLD, WA and SA makes sense. It might be popular to say every team deserves to stay and a 19th & 20th team is being inclusive. But let’s be honest, look at the game right now, it’s not going to work. -

Mitchell’s plan was to bottom out before Tasmania comes in. Still got a few years left of high end draft picks. But as we know picks aren’t everything.

19 & 20 teams….
-
Folded. Tassie becomes the 18th team and that’s all this competition can sustain. McKercher becomes the inaugural captain.
-
It is pretty ordinary and Crows have a decent fwd set up.
-
Each week in addition to my other bets I do 8 x 9 game multis at $5 each (every AFL game, all head to head) By doing 8 bets can take 3 games each way. This week I’ve taken Cats v Blues Freo v Dogs North v Crows all each way. If all / the majority of favourites get up it doesn’t pay much but if a few of the long shots get up it can pay quite nicely.
-
Anyone give North a chance? I’ve tipped the Crows but taken North each way in a few multis.
-
We got the 4 points, most of us have 4 days off. Plenty more betting to be done and time spent with family. Looking to McAdam coming in against Geelong and our mids getting back to form we showed against Port, and finally any chance we can open up our fwd 50. We often look so congested when going inside 60.

Oh wow, this is a serious post. My wife said the same thing, she’s been following Melbourne and the sport as a whole for 8 years. I’m not trying to be disrespectful but Mel Bourne’s post was hardly visionary, what Melbourne did last night was what we do just about every time we play a team we should put away. I posted we should be aiming to win each qtr by 4 goals, because that’s what I believe a team of our calibre should be doing, when we play a bottom 4 team with 6 of its best players missing. Had Mel Bourne or anyone else told me last week to load up on the Eagles, well then I’d be sitting up taking notice. And while I’m going to all the posters / commentators who continue to roll out the Yze / McQualter factor played its part last night. This is the nearly the most scrutinised / analysed game in the world, with stats, graphs or heat maps for just about everything. Clubs have coaches whose sole job is to study the opposition. All clubs know what other clubs are going to do 99% of the time.

We should pump them & if we do I still won’t be getting excited. Cats & Blues is the real test for the season so far.
-
Should be aiming to win each qtr by 4 goals.
-
Considering Richmond’s injuries we need to put them away early. Our real test comes the following weeks against the Cats and Blues. Looking at this weeks results 4 & 2 on face value is good but we effectively haven’t beaten a serious contender yet.
-
Port have beaten Eagles Tigers Bombers And Freo by default
-
Saints were similar to us against Brisbane, stuffed.
-
The club have been very proactive in recent years in signing / re signing players. We also have recent experience in players wanting to go home ie L.J. Petty is contracted until the end of next season, I’m guessing we’ve already offered him a new contract which supersedes his current. I think he’s definitely a keeper because of his ability and age. He can replace May in 1-2 years time. If we’re getting L.J vibes we need to move on someone else, can’t afford to get caught with our pants down.

When they tackle we can’t dispose of it and are caught holding the ball. When we tackle they dispose of it with ease.
