We couldn't even roll 1/2 a Collingwood side in the last round, with finals on the line. Get real SWYL -
10 Scott Thompson?

Robert Pyman? Not even sure why his name came to mind actually.

There are no experts here mate. Just a lot a people with an opinon,a drinking problem, and too much time on their hands.

Have never seen a single minute of Mitch King. Can he actually play the game? Great news about Angus. I think many here have forgotten just how good this bloke is. Could be a real star, and by that I dont mean a Melbourne star, but a star of the comp. -

Good legs in him for sure, but he has dad's preying mantis arms. Wiry type, and still goes in when required. The sort of player who should be a classic late developer due to his small size. -

The slow players you are probably referring to would have been successful because they had elite traits that helped them to overcome the lack of pace. Elite hands, decision making, awareness, game sense. Jack is elite at none of those and in the end was possibly the slowest mover I have ever seen for someone of his size. I am stunned that Port have wasted a pick on Jack. Great news for him of course, but one their supporters won't be at all happy with. -
Anyone who can't find a place for Jakovich in our all time best forward line never watched him play. His sample size was more than enough to prove he wasn't a Cuthbertson.

How stupid are Port Trengove might be a great guy but his body is shot. He owes his manager a top shelf whisky for putting one over on the Port list manager. -
List Analysis Potential v Reality
faultydet replied to Its Time for Another's topic in Melbourne Demons
Interesting op I'm sure. Will read once I have time. The idea that someone has reached their full potential is interesting, but I would suggest "full potential" couldn't be realised until a player has been tried in every position, playing every game plan. A simple game plan change seemed to bring out the best in the entire Tigers list, which was nothing special at the start of the season. Buy-in and execution can make even a bog average player a premiership player. Our list has some seriously talented players on it. If we could ever get our heads right, and figure out how to not lay down at crucial times, we will be unbeatable. -
Myself and the Princess are on auto renew, so sooking and canning it isn't really an option. I was as furious as anyone about our last round failure, but I'm not at the point of cancelling the auto renew just yet. Miss finals this year, and I would consider pulling out, as I don't get to see any games live, so our memberships are donations only. The thing that gives me heart is the obviously strong attempts by the footy department to change our clubs culture to a more hard nosed one. Trading out club favourite Watts, and bringing in the biggest fish of the trade period in Lever has me thinking Goody is on the right track. If the final game capitulation was the catalyst for many not renewing, I completely understand. I haven't been so angry in years, but if it's the Watts exit, I worry that many of our supporters prefer "good blokes", to a premiership.

Living in central Queensland and only seeing a live game once every few years, it's basically a T.V sport to me, and I have Foxtel, so every game is live. For me its more of a commercial thing, as well as the emotional investment of getting the absolute shtis seeing the same power clubs dominate the prime slots even when they are a non-entity come finals time. It really is time with this coming season. Win everywhere, and demand the prime time spots the following season. It's already been shown with the Bulldogs that win a flag, and you get commercial reward. If we have minimal short breaks, which we do, that's a huge reason for a whinge that has been removed. Overall, I'm not that unhappy with the draw, apart from wanting Colonwood and Carlton to get the hell off OUR ground.

Don't know much at all about Hartung, but it's nice to see some love for ANB. My brother was on to him early on, and I wondered what he smoking. He seemed to come on very quickly this year, and by seasons end, I actually though he has one of the best "footy brains" on the entire list. Always looking for, and generally finding an option in better position, even when he could be forgiven for having a ping himself. I see him as starting 18, with a full list available.

While I agree with the premise of your post, I still can't get my head around last years Bulldogs. Stars? All I saw was a committed group of blokes who had figured out a way to throw the ball so fast, the umpires couldn't keep up. The Tigers list is also full of bog-average players. Shows what can be achieved when your handful of "stars" are on song. Only takes a few.

Hard to evaluate character and personality from high up in the stands.

Well said mate. Good post. Picking up a player such as Lever is a massive step in the right direction. We are targeting the type of player who will stand up to finals pressure, and offloading those who wont. We have a terrible history of falling over our own feet when in a position to push deep into the top 8. Almost as if it's a mental issue, not a physical one. Missing the 8, or even missing the top 4 next season would be a huge failure in my eyes. Our footy dept needs to ditch the "young list" excuses, and saddle us up for a serious shot. Otherwise we will still be seen as a joke to the rest of the AFL community.

Spot on SWYL We can shout from the rooftops about our talented list, but the Tigs (and last years Dogs) found a way to win a flag from seemingly nowhere, with great game plans for the occasion, and total commitment from the entire list. That level of commitment is something I have never witnessed from a Melbourne team when the big time arrives. If this list stay together and play with the single mindedness of this years Tigers, we should win 5 in a row. Easy to predict that we wont, based on past experience.

Hibbo and Nev Selected For International Rules
faultydet replied to Deemented Are Go!'s topic in Melbourne Demons
Australia. Making Irish sport relevant since 1984. And Who the phcuk is Cormac McAnellan, and why is a pointless trophy named after him? Give the bastards an oval ball, and see how they handle that. Ireland, yibada pataytoes -
He played round 2 and 3 before his injury, and then returned in round 14 v Meth Coast Every player can get injured. It's not as if it was a recurrence of a chronic injury. It was a hammy. I could ping one of those chasing the missus around the bedroom tonight. (granted, she is 20+ years younger than me) Celebrate the fact that the games best ruckman has signalled his intent to saddle up for us long term, and give away the sad sack routine. This is nothing but good news mate.

But he did it just this year. Here are his stats K H D M HO T FF FA G B SC Rat W/L 2017 R1 St Kilda 9 4 13 4 49 4 1 1 0 1 1 111 Win 2017 R23 Collingwood 5 3 8 3 35 1 0 0 0 1 1 70 Loss

Stop carrying on Old Dee. You will give yourself an ulcer. Max played round 1, AND round 23 this year. Finals are not played mid season. What's your argument now?

Colonwood has marquee games busting out of its blurter. We have two. Two big annual games, and we rotate the gate at one of them. I would say a polite but firm NO if able. Actually, it wouldn't be polite. While we are the mugs who scratch in the Kitty Litter every year, and are forced to play in the N.T while Colonwood gets 16 games in the centre of Melbourne even if they are down in the cellar, you don't give them a millimetre. F.O Colonwood

Is a 208cm ruckman supposed to play every game from year dot? How about a grace period for a bit of professional development, considering he was returning from an ACL? A firing Max would be an awesome weapon on Grand Final day.
-
It's certainly becoming easier to change clubs, or be given the arz, but why bring it up in every thread? It's a statement of intent at a minimum, and I think we ought to be damn pleased about it. Should we dredge up some of the doomsday posts regarding a player walkout following the pushing of Watts? Nah, lets not.
