WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MICHAEL HIBBERD
I wasn't being too serious Sailing Dee. Please don't take offence.

I don't even think his essedon career was impressive. A classic case of a soft outside player being made to look better than he really is, by talented teammates. That essedon chose to clear out the likes of Heffernan/Blumfield/Caracella around the same time as they started to feel the salary cap squeeze, says enough for me. Clever trading by the dons.

That's the obvious issue, but I'm still confident he will be a better player than the others mentioned in that post.

Hibberd is a much more talented player than any of those guys. He will slot in nicely, into an area of the ground where we could certainly use an injection of the type of skills he will bring.

Heffernan was bog average when he played for us. Get your memory serviced......

I agree Wayne, but we need to keep our heads in the real world. We will pay for Hibberd, as the AFL overlords will not allow this to go to grievance. If it's our second round, lets just welcome him, and wish him the best. He will be a very good player for us.

I see it differently D11. Just because Clark was a bust also, doesn't mean we got value for Lumumba. He has been a failure any way you look at it, especially considering Jason Taylors record since landing with us. I would love to see who he would have chosen at that pick.

I thought we overpaid for him personally, although I suspect you are correct, in that our 3rd rd pick was never going to be enough. I always factored in the VERY high likelihood that he would serve a suspension for drugs. I was always confident that the good guys would win, once it was out of the afl's slimy hands. Oops, we also overpaid for Lamumba, and most definitely Dawes.

And that's the way it should be, but recent experience, and essedon's dodo, caution me otherwise. I hope Redleg is correct.

We wont. We never do. I can see it being next years first pick. I think he will let his strong personal relationship with Hibberd cloud his judgement. Hope I'm wrong, but I don't expect to be. This years second rounder should be more than enough.

I would love to have known if Goody would have done something different yesterday. Anyway, next weeks game is a dead rubber. Character test for the team. Will they turn up, or have their heads spinning for mad monday?

Just as so many here would have said it's a blessing in disguise to have lost our first final, should we have made it through. Give a team hope and they can perform wonders. But to resist making changes yesterday that seemed to have a massive effect on the outcome, was not good enough imo. (if that's what actually happened.) And every team seems to make up the numbers if they finish 8th. That's about where we will finish next year, unless some teams implode. I wont be thinking it was good to just miss out again, if that's what happens. I was also hanging on to the finals hope for things like memberships etc. We need every boost we can get, to reach where we all aspire. *maybe mods can move all of this talk, so we dont ruin the Hibberd thread.

Mach, if Roos was prepared to lose a game that would see us miss our first opportunity at finals for a decade, just to see if the players would make a move themselves, I would be seriously pizzed. It doesn't take an entire game to know they are not going to make the move themselves, and we have video reviews for just that thing anyway. To me, winning was the only thing that mattered yesterday. It wasn't a classroom day, it was a day to get the points. Nothing more, nothing less.

That sounds like a massive copout. We "empowered" Roos to the tune of $1.5m per year to do a job. It takes all of a couple of seconds to pick up a phone and say "Vince to Gibbs, hard tag"

If it seems fair to us, you can bet it wont seem fair to the drug cheats. Must be a great offer on the table from us to shake one of them from the tree.

1: Close to value, so I cant see it happening with dodo involved (second thoughts, they may be expecting us to finish higher next year, after priority/compo picks are involved.) 2: they will value Hibberd MUCH higher than Salem, not the other way around. 3: Grimes for ANYONE is pie in the sky, even including pick 46. We haven't played him all year.

It was Mitch Robinson who said that wasn't it? McLean tried to dob us in for tanking.

We certainly look like having one of the hardest edge sides going around, in the not too distant future. Bloody hell that's great after the decades of being among the softest.

Is that your word, or something from inside either club?

Nat Fyfe
Gold Coast are nuts if they give away 2 early first round picks for Fyfe. Haven't they learned their lesson with their injury decimated midfield this year? Why spend such valuable draft currency on someone who has a shocking recent injury history? It's the very definition of high risk / high reward, but I wouldn't be taking the chance, particularly if this draft is the high talent one its rumoured to be.

Delistings
DAWES (zero), TERLICH (zilch), ANB (keep),NEWTON(zilch),MINCHIE(zilch),LUMUMBA(if healthy, probably keep),GRIMES(dfa/4th/5th rd best case) SPENCER(contracted) ,MAX KING (zilch) Matt Jones (maybe keep, has improved this year),Trengove (would be mildly surprised if he is kept on. Just too slow) and White (he would be concerned) Need to keep in mind that we dont have a plethora of draft picks this year, so unless we see some gold in the rookie drafts etc, can't see us de-listing too many this year. Maybe that saves the likes of Trenners, and Lumumba.

Billy Stretch Appreciation Thread
He wasn't under the same pressure as the inside mids, but it's nice to see someone who can hit a target after getting the ball in space. Yes, I'm looking at you M.Jones. I think Stretch will be one of our top 10 players once he matures.

The youngest most inexperienced side
Some people refuse to take of the rose colored glasses stu. but, but, but, we are GOING to be so good! We were a young team when we were playing all of our early draftees during the Baily/Neeld years, and what happened then?

Smacks of the Tigers trying to recruit anyone of note, even if it doesn't actually fit into any forward planning at all. Panic recruiting. Look at our shiny new recruit, aren't we the best!! Dumb Brisbane, just dumb
