  1. Jared Rivers heads the list of five senior list Demons with permission to play for Casey Scorpions against Box Hill on Saturday at Casey Fields. Joining him will be Austin Wonaeamirri, Paul Johnson, Addam Maric and Liam Jurrah plus four rookies. Source: HUN I'm surprised that Jack Grimes isn't on the list after missing the past two NAB Challenge games.
  2. Dodgy is good. The latest AFL membership figures show that we're ahead of the Bulldogs in membership numbers despite the fact that the AFL has pronounced them healthy. Come on Demon fans - especially those in the Casey area. Join up on Saturday in big numbers and show those dodgy tortilla salesmen that they made a dodgy decision when they shafted us:- West Coast Eagles 47,728 (44,863) Hawthorn 40,926 (41,366) Collingwood 34,038 (42,498) Essendon 33,970 (41,947) Carlton 30,821 (39,360) Geelong 27,400 (36,850) Richmond 27,171 (30,820) St. Kilda 23,597 (30,063) Port Adelaide 23,537 (34,185) Melbourne 21,986 (29,619) Brisbane 20,805 (22,737) North Melbourne 20,020 (32,600) Western Bulldogs 19,157 (28,306) Adelaide n.a (48,720) Fremantle n.a (43,366) Sydney n.a (26,721) Official final 2008 numbers in brackets
  3. Against us last week they kicked 3 behinds all day. Today they have 4 halfway through the first. Rougie's first shot for goal - out on the full. The second was a point from right in front and his third finally made it!
  4. Wrong. Reading between the lines of Mark Stevens' article we're still a fair way off securing a major sponsor.
  5. Did you notice David Loats (ex-Bulldogs & Hawks) apparently the new ruck coach.
  6. No. I'm being realistic. Hawthorn was where we are now three years ago and they've provided value for their sponsors. We can do the same. Incidentally, we have the official youngest list.
  7. I don't care what the surveys might indicate about the number of supporters we're supposed to have. I don't care about our fixture and the allocation of our games to free to air TV. We are the oldest football club in the world, we play on the best sporting ground on earth, we represent the capital city of our state and we will have more than 30k membership. We have a young list and will be an exciting place in the coming years. We must represent high value to a corporate sponsor even in tough times. Whoever takes us on will discover a loyal supporter base that will embrace its business and its product and make every dollar spent worthwhile. This I believe!
  8. "Former Demon defender Nathan Brown finished up at Melbourne in 2007 and spent last season at West Adelaide but he's back in the fold heading up the list of newcomers for 2009 at Casey. Brown will also have some sort of development role with the club on top of being there as a player." There's a report in today's Sunday Age that says Doggy's playing with Old Scotch in the VAFA this year.

  10. I tipped this but didn't think he'd grown to to 193cm.
  11. Graham Cornes: The Paris Hilton Pies
  12. Goose, Patrick Hayes is nothing like Cameron Bruce. For more information on him see - AFL eyes turn to ex-hockey Hayes. As a tallish former hockey player, he's more akin to one of our old favourites here on Demonland, Alistair Nicholson and as a tall redhead, reminiscent of the late Troy Broadbridge. He's now 194cm tall and has tested at 2.91 20m, 8.44 agility and 14.2 beep. There are some great highlights on You Tube if you can find them. He's fast and committed.
  13. The HUN has a charcter called "Phantom" (blech) who produced this one today: 1. Jack Watts (Melbourne) 2. Nick Natanui (West Coast) 3. Stephen Hill (Fremantle) 4. Daniel Rich (Port Power) 5. Michael Hurley (Essendon) 6. Chris Yarran (Carlton) 7. Jack Ziebell (Brisbane) 8. Tyrone Vickery (Richmond) 9. Hamish Hartlett (North) 10. Jackson Trengrove (Adelaide) 11. Tom Swift (Collingwood) 12. 14. Sad news. One of all time greats. Condolences to the family.
  15. It seems that no uncontracted players nominated before the deadline of 2pm yesterday. Does this have any significance? Do such players now automatically go into the PSD or what?
  16. The Carlton salary cap mystery has now officially been solved. The following highly paid players were today delisted: Cain Ackland, Clinton Benjamin, Luke Blackwell, Ryan Jackson and Aisake O'hAilpin. Jason Saddington has also retired. These changes have freed up about $2m from the Blues' total player payments allowing them to fit uncontracted Sydney player Ryan O'Keefe well within their salary cap limit and also enabling them to elevate emerging defender Michael Jamison (who is being paid in peanuts, seashells and violet crumble bars) off the club's rookie list.
  17. Also delisted by the Crows: Kris Massie and Bryce Campbell.
  18. Granted it's early doors but has anyone noticed whether Michael Newton is showing any signs of bulking up?
  19. All the talk is about the big guns at draft camp but what about the smokey? Here's one that's been discussed in a number of places. His name is Liam Jurrah 188cm 78kg Born 23/9/88. Collingwood picked him up and snuck him into their VFL team for four games and then he mysteriously disappeared back home to central Australia. He is said to be a player of rare talent, an amazing kick, fantastic hands and an effortless mover with excellent skills. He comes from Yuendumu Magpies in the Central Australian Football League. I understand that Collingwood wanted to quietly select him with a late draft selection but a few other clubs are now on to this.
