  1. People have been asking that the thread be closed from as far back as page 2. Probably a good thing the mods didn’t listen back then.
  2. This name sounds interesting - Bigoa Nyuon 18-May-01 195 84 Dandenong Stingrays Rowville Junior FC Rowville SC The name sounds Sudanese and since he comes from the Dandenong Stingrays which is in the MFC Next Generation Academy zone, he could be in the same category as Toby Bedford is in this year. One worth watching in the future.
  3. After reading this excellent piece, I’m wondering how it’s possible that so many people were wandering around the city last night wearing red and blue scarves and with big grins on their faces?

Tony Sheahan also reporting that Collingwood is working to secure May and also looking at a deal for Beams.

He’s not making much noise here ...
  6. Has Clarrie gone in for that shoulder operation yet? Will Bernie get selected in the hope of winning his second premiership flag in 6 days?
  7. Also beat the Cats last week in the VFL and if Box Hill wins today then we play them in the Prelim next week. First the Cats and then the Hawks, both in the National and the State comp.
  8. I wouldn’t be discounting the Dockers. They have an unpredictably dual nature in that they are the competition’s Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde: usually very good on their home deck but they go shockingly when they have to travel away. Barring the local derby games, Freo are 7-3 on their home ground this year. Their scalps include both Adelaide teams and earlier this year they nearly knocked over the Eagles at the venue. I’m backing them in to upset the Pies.
  9. Beg to differ about Wagner being the emergency. He filled that role only recently and needs the match fitness. I think it’s either JKH or Wagner to play at Melbourne and that Spargo will be given the two week’s rest.
  10. And his twin brother too ...
  11. Clearly, our list management and recruiting people aren't as obsessed with early draft picks as were their counterparts ten years ago. They already have managed to pluck out two category B rookies for development at Casey including young Bradtke who at 18 years and 205cm seems perfect for that sort of role where he can patiently serve his time as understudy for Maxy. History shows there are still some good prospects in the 30-40 range and here's hoping our people can snag some more Fritsch/Spargo types this year.
  12. I read somewhere that this game is being streamed by the VFL but does anyone have a link to the game?
  13. Woudda been 11 - 0 if the camp went ahead.
  14. Great come back by Gus over the past month.
  15. We need to work out how to avoid getting beaten at the stoppages when we have a clearly dominant ruck.
  16. When the medical team say they suspect an ACL, they’re usual pretty close to the mark. They simply need the mri results to prove the conclusions reached during their examination.
  17. There’s been noise about West Coast’s free kick advantage for at least four years. Nobody knows what to do about it.
  18. Those two picks might turn out to be champions or they might have fathers who weigh more than 200kg. You can't walk out on us now.
  19. One of those Under 16's picked up Voldemort last night and even tackled him one or two times. Things are going well out there at Bleaktown.
  20. OK but I would prefer we're given until at least Wednesday because I'm doing something on Tuesday.

NSW/ACT SCHOLARSHIP-HOLDERS Adelaide: Sam Martyn Bris Lions: James Brain, Jack Lawson Collingwood: Scott Reed, Nick Perry, Thomas Young Carlton: Joshua Fenaroli, Jake Pianta Essendon: Benjamin Simon, James Webster Fremantle: Matthew Long, Max Wilson Geelong: Kale Temple, Ranga Ediriwickrama Hawthorn: Michael Johnston, William Sierakowski, Trent Stubbs, Thomas Kickett Melbourne: Teddy Strudwick Port Adelaide: Jordan Johns N Melb: Lachlan Pryor Richmond: Harrison Lee St Kilda: Joshua Duncan, Kane Murphy, Blake McGrath Sydney: Ryan Bottin-Noonan, Jay Lewis, Matt May West Coast: Anthony Stubbs Western Bulldogs: Braedon Jones, Chris Ogle, Daniel Lloyd I notice that we are one of the few clubs that has only one scholarship holder on its books and that Strudwick didn't even make the cut off for the NSW team for the championships. Another good example of our recruiting capabilities over the past few years.

I don't think Melbourne embraced the whole NSW scholarship thing under CAC and now that there's going to be another team in Sydney I doubt whether it's going to last much longer. Some other clubs already have NSW players on their lists while others have players who are doing well at the Under 18 championships. It looks like another area like overseas recruiting where we've missed the boat because we don't have the finances, the imagination or both to get involved.
