Frawley, Frawley & Frawley, re-sign him at all costs!! At least if we do lose him there's a few potential (although not as good) replacements on that list (Jamison, Reid, Goldsack). Keep Frawley & I wouldn't mind picking up a Hurn, Swan or Mundy on the side..... If none of our rucks come on this year & stamp themselves as genuinely great 1st choice options then Minson & Goldstein would be nice (although highly unlikely to leave their current gigs).

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRISTIAN SALEM
thevil1 replied to Freddy Fuschia's topic in Melbourne Demons
Happy with this pick, welcome Christ Salem!! -
For some reason people seem to think Freeman is harder at the contest then Salem. Where is the evidence of this? To my limited knowledge they seem very similar, with Salem the superior skills & Freeman the superior athlete. But both have good pace, core strength & look ready come round 1. I'm torn on these 2, with Scharenberg the only potential slider who I would take ahead of either. Can anyone give me a really good detailed comparison of the 2 most likely pick 9's?!?
-
If Scharenberg is available & we're confident his feet will heal (pun intended), he is a no brainer best available (same with Aish if he happened to slid this far). I voted Freeman cause I can't see either lasting that long. I really like his burst of speed & how he keeps his feet, I think he'd compliment our midfield very well. Otherwise I want Salem, decent speed, elite user who enjoys a contest. I'm sure it'll be one of those 4. I'm not a Lennon or Bontempelli fan so if it has to be someone else then it would be Sheed for mine. I really like Zac Jones, would love another Jones running around for MFC, but I don't think he's as good as the others I've mentioned and a few others I haven't (Taylor, Acres etc).
-
Except Salem has a hunger for winning a contest..... He plays nothing like Strauss.
-
Looks like Nicho will survive then, hope he proves me wrong..... Liked Jetta, but couldn't get his body right or any consistency (which hasn't been easy for many @ MFC with all the regime changes), but nevertheless fair call. Wish him luck for the future though, hopefully he can get picked up elsewhere.

Same reason they wanted Betts even though they had Thomas maybe?!?

We just cut Magner & in terms of physical development & ability, are there really that many mature aged state league midfield players out there much better & more ready than him? If we really were headed down that path again why cut Magner? We still have Jetta & Nicholson up in the air also, both of whom if retained I see as being potential midfield options (much as I have my doubts about either ever making the grade), so given we cut Couch & Magner this offseason & recruited Cross, Vince, Tyson & Michie as physically ready midfield options, I really can't see us drafting anything other than a few more kids to develop myself. Not saying we couldn't use more ready to go help in the midfield next year but the well is only so deep on that front. Can anyone name state league midfielders physically ready who had a better 2013 than Magner & Couch? I'm asking genuinely, I really don't know. I dunno if Gartlett will make it or not, I have my doubts, but even as a 19 year old he seems way less mature than most aspiring footballers at the same age & from what we've seen over the years that says heaps. He doesn't even seem intelligent enough to know how to pretend to act like a professional (last years photos before the draft were beyond dumb IMO, at any age). At least I feel confident in our new footy dep over any past ones to make the call on this.
-
Didn't Roos or one of the coaches already mention a return to the HBF for Grimsey? Or did I just imagine that?!? Can't find it so I probably did. I reckon his disposal like a lot of our defenders will be a lot better off half back with better midfield spread this year & our recruits bar Cross are all decent overhead too. I reckon he needs to read/see the play coming rather than get lost in the middle to play his best footy, I have a sneaky suspicion his awareness is not quite elite but his reading of the play can be. When he wins the ball in the middle I rate him as a midfielder, off the ball to me he seems lost. Much easier to tidy up his kicking off HB IMO then his awareness & natural instincts. Could be our right footed Hodge (who was sensational in the Granny but still fluffed a few field kicks early on).

Any suggestions for our options in pre season draft (PSD)
thevil1 replied to Dees2014's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't reckon brissy can manage to find trades for all those OOC kids who want out this year, so one of them could end up available.... Agree Docherty being probably the nicest fit for us. -
The difference Roos would make (VOTE AWAY)

I agree with HH completely. -
I miss him already, was a great player, a great clubman and a top bloke, sad that injuries got to him but hope that he is kept involved at the club in some capacity. Good luck Aaron!!
-
Btw, Stockdale lists Jeff as one of his closest friends. Doubt they'll run opposed!!

Stockdale is a great MFC man, has put a lot of money into the club & he does clearly love it..... However, he's just too busy!! Has been approached before, hasn't committed on a couple of occasions, why would we want another president who is too busy to commit to the role?!? We just has one who was pushed aside because he's been more focused on selling his business than us (don't give me that crap about focuses on the sale for the next 12 months when you've already been working on it for 12 months prior!). I'm sick of the boys club at MFC, it needs a real shake up, & Stockdale, great supporter that he is, is still more or the same. Maybe someone who isn't already committed to 3 paying board member roles elsewhere and actively runs a large corporation could put more time into fixing this club? Just a thought..... I reckon even Eddie with media commitments has more free time to president a club than this bloke. And why such hesitation on his part???

I've supported this group every single game so far this season in person except the one in Perth. My whole family buys the top of the line memberships with the finals options (yes, I am normally the eternal optimist). We have donated so much $ I don't even want to think about anymore, it makes me sick, and not just during the debt demolition, the club has me on speed dial and rings with their hand out every second week! Last week they rang on Tuesday and I told them to buggar off first time ever. After all I've given how can they keep asking me to dig deep, seriously, how dare they!!! After the pathetic board response Monday I made up my mind Tuesday that for once I'm going to go away for the long weekend, first game at the g I've missed in I don't know how many years. My mrs can hardly believe it, she is wrapped. Further, if we don't show something against collingwood and still do nothing as a club about the board then I'll next see the boys live in 2014. I can't keep putting money, energy and emotion into this place, I just can't keep doing it to myself or my family anymore, I can't justify it, it's not fair on any of us anymore and I have made sacrifices for this club, I even gave money I didn't really have and kept it from the mrs, it caused us real pain & these blokes earn how much to just play with effort? It's not just that I feel let down, I am upset at myself for being so involved in this garbage, I'm beginning to hate the club, not hate as in I hate collingwood, I mean the type of venomous hate you could only feel after you loved something so much but you still got your heart torn out of your chest type hate!! Those talking unity can go shove it up their backsides, we will never fire up again with that mindset!! How can that [censored] weak response from supporters work to fix a [censored] weak board, a [censored] weak club & a [censored] weak culture?!?!?
-
If it takes this from the Ox to finally see a game like that, then he is even more right!! Make him coach to inspire these blokes! And president! Ha!! As much as I hope to see a game like that with my club in it for once, it won't happen anyway, they couldn't even play like that for Jimmy's tribute or for the last coach they supposedly all loved and backed.
-
We're all theorists one way or the other, but have you actually looked at the evidence or do you just like being scared of the term conspiracy? Because they do exist you know whether you can face it or not.
-
Wtf? Go on PM me all your historical knowledge on those regions!! Ha! Is that why we are there? Go back to watching the bs on the tv news, the brain washing suits you. Those blokes are over there cause they were sent there. 10 years later none of em even know who or what they are fighting for, go ask some of them like I have. Then once they know the whole thing is BS for some other reason kept from us all, they get labelled dangerous on their return, must be suffering PTS, we better demonise them, medicate them and dumb them down some more then..... Our government is a disgrace worse than the MFC board!! You brought this topic on yourself and it does show how gullible and simple you really are.
-
And Garry said that cause he knows the long term decision has already been made, read between the lines silly!! Just like that song you quote, you worked out what that is really about didn't you? Lol
-
I agree with this to an extent, but McLardarse doesn't see himself as part of the problem. Neither did schwab. Garry Lyon keeps looking around going 'I was only one of a committee who decided to hire Bailey and then Neeld' despite many reports he was super keen on both and the boards largely listened to him about it. Unfortunately sometimes blood has to spill for a club to purge its demons.
-
Yea, close your eyes, hold hands & sing coombaya fellas, that'll work to right the ship surely! Lets blindly follow this incompetence and if we just believe it will all turn out rosy?!? Hey, maybe that's what the players are trying to do out there!! 'We are behind the coach, we believe it will just work eventually, so no need to kill myself going at the contest!!' Lol They say change is as good as a holiday.....
-
PJ, how are we saving $200k by keeping him btw? Is that the salary we'll be paying him to stay on anyway? Or does he get paid a termination bonus if we sack him early?!? Ha!! We have 15 other coaches, I'm sure we could sack him, make Rawlings, Craig or even Viney interim coach till the end of the year and be in the same position financially at years end. You think Rawlings won't take the opportunity because he's still on his assistants pay packet?
-
My point was he called it early & honestly as soon as he knew, and many on here criticized him big time for it then saying he was destabilizing the club. Then it turned out the deal was as good as done way earlier than anyone predicted, so the club looked like morons anyway. Meanwhile Garry kept that whole facade thing going trying to save face for the club. We should have put the acid on scully as a club and sent him to the vfl for the rest of the season like the crows did with Davis. Oh hang on, Davis was honest, maybe that's why he's a captain instead of the million dollar baby. We as a club continue to make horrible decisions from the very top.
-
All theories & BS there PJ..... I thought the players had been put on notice months ago. 186 showed it doesn't matter how much the playing group supposedly likes or supports the coach. Our board is pathetic, weak and will have us on welfare soon enough. A board member said to the media they are constantly reviewing these positions (in reference to the coach), hardly support for what the coach is doing with the group. Where is the big statement like 'He is our coach, we back him 100%, he's doing the best he can and we will wait until the ed of the season to do a full review of the whole footy department, not just the coach.' That is support. This middle ground, trying to manage all sides of the equation will satisfy no one and means that when they do show their hand and sack him at years end, it really was another wasted season. Sack him this week and at least attendance would be up & most supporters would feel like something is being done. How many times does this group need to be put in notice? Our 'notice' must seem like a right laugh these days!!
