  2. To anyone claiming you've never taken a government handout/concession - if you have a super fund, there's a pretty effective tax break in there. 15% tax on earnings instead of your marginal tax rate. 0% if you're in pension phase. Not all welfare is directed at your bank account and accompanied by a letter from Centrelink. I'm not saying those tax concessions are bad or good, only that you get them because the government gives it to you. Otherwise you'd be paying your marginal tax rates on the earnings. Also as much as I hate to say this because he acts like a bully, Ben is correct about Howard. Changing one's mind about an issue and then going to an election with that issue as a mandate is very very different to winning an election and changing one's mind after the fact. Also Turnbull's lack of support within the party room is a bit of a myth. He lost the leadership by a single vote, and one of his supporters was not allowed to vote in absentia (I think she was sick at the time). Since then, unlike Rudd, he has not positioned himself to take the leadership. Any suggestions of that have come from the media. He has put his ego squarely away and gotten behind Abbott. Also if you don't agree with his stance on the ETS (that's what he supported, not a carbon tax), then you can at least admire his balls for crossing the floor for when it was being voted on. He put his political career on the line for what he thought was the right thing, if it was or not isn't the point. I haven't seen that sort of courage from Rudd nor Abbott. If Rudd had had those kinds of balls he would have called a double dissolution, but he didn't. He shirked the 'greatest moral responsibility of our time' as he called it. If he really believed that, he would have pulled that trigger and stood up for what he thought was right.
  3. TBH I'd be more worried about the 'blue'.
  4. If he has OP then why would the club keep it a secret?
  5. Ah, yep I see. Thanks for the clarification, I misread it.
  6. I'm not sure I understand this quote: "“I want to be part of the Melbourne side that was beaten by one of the expansion clubs to winning a premiership in a few years. I want to be part of history,” he said." I assume it was supposed to say "I want to be part of the Melbourne side THAT BEATS one of the expansion clubs to winning a premiership in a few years" ? Other than that, he's saying all the right things and going really hard on the field, it's really encouraging.
  7. This makes me a lot sadder than it should. I hope the Dees have a win for your kids mate, unlikely as it might seem.
  8. My father says the exact same thing. I hope we're not related.
  9. Honestly haven't done much of either in this thread. I think they're both poor options. Also it's an interesting assumption you make, this notion that I like to criticise conservatives more than the left. Perhaps on this forum, in the context of this thread and the carbon tax thread that is true, but I don't think that's enough of a sample size to make that claim about me in general. In my work and with contact with clients I can assure you there is a lot of Rudd criticism. I work a lot with retirees (and pre-retirees) and many changes the Labor government has made have been extremely frustrating to that demographic. Their constant monkeying with the concessional contributions caps is one example that is infuriating. Reducing the cap from $50,000 to $25,000, then increasing it to $35,000 a few years later and putting out a press release essentially saying "hey look at us, we're great, we increased the cap!" is the height of hypocrisy. I think their next press release might say something about increasing the chocolate ration. Also I'm not sure how surprised you should be that there's criticism of Tony Abbott in a thread entitled "Tony Abbott is an international embarrassment'. Perhaps if there was a thread called 'Kevin Rudd is an international embarrassment', you'll get some posters going the other way.
  10. Again, criticising Abbott does not confirm support for Rudd. It doesn't work the other way around either.
  11. lol. But seriously, Abbott actually is a Rhodes Scholar.
  12. Post of the decade.
  13. Not agreeing with Abbott does not equate to agreeing with Rudd. One can disagree with both of them. Personally, I disagree with both on their now very similar approaches to asylum seekers arriving by boat. I wont be voting for either one of them. Neither men nor the parties they lead have shown any indication to me that they will lead the country well. The last election showed the dangers of using the Greens as a 'protest vote', so even that option is a bad one. This forces me to vote informal. If one of them (either one) lays out a plan for Australia that I can get behind, then I'll vote for that candidate. Unfortunately neither one is even close right now, and it's frustrating to say the least. Abbott will win because we've had 2 terms of Labor incompetence. Even when they have the right idea they invariably screw up it's implementation. Winning the Prime Ministership by default is not how I want the leader of my country to be chosen.
  14. I liked lefty round. It seemed to me like the AFL were taking the [censored] out of themselves for constantly having 'theme' rounds. The interviews were all facetious and Cloke was blaming being a lefty for his terrible goal kicking. The Luke Hodge ad was pretty funny too. I thought it was a rare instance of self-deprecating humour for the AFL.
  15. Yeah I think every man and his dog put the C on Ablett, thinking he would run riot against us. Jordie and Garland killed a lot of DT scores this week.
  16. That was a close bunch of rounds. Cant believe I lost by 14 points. Nothing in a lot of those, a few kicks and marks would make the difference. I'll get you next time Mega_Watts! Next tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiime!
  17. Man I wish there was an easy way to export these ladders. I think I left the wrong figures in the first table, that might have been points against by accident. Re-ordered below: 1. 19. I'm sure Travis Cloke is hoping the answer to this question is 'yes'. I'm happy our players don't have the monopoly on this particular affliction.
  20. Whatever happened to that guy? A year ago his posts were everywhere.
  21. Even out of contract players need the club to agree to a trade in order to leave. We can just say no. Otherwise they have to risk going to the draft and ending up somewhere they don't want to be. No one else will get sucked in the way we did with Luke Ball. I for one am not panicking.
  22. The rookies have a very solid top 8. I have a tough knock-out final with Mega_Watts this week. Glad to see I'm not the only one who got sucked into buying Grimes.
  23. I hope for all our sakes that he informs you the MFC are about to conclude the longest foxing strategy in recorded history.
