2017 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
spirit of norm smith replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Bolter - Bonar!! Slider - Joel Garner?? -
No surprise to hear Nick Suban was delisted given the Freo rebuild phase. I always rated him even as a youngster in the Vic-Country under 18s. He is strong, skilled and good pace. Very much in Hibberd mould. Fell out of favour in 2017 and whilst he got back, obviously Freo are cleaning house. Not sure he fits the Dees needs but I still reckon at 27 that he has plenty of good footy left.

2017 Player Reviews: # 16 Dean Kent

Great. We will see who is ridiculous and how Kent goes. You have backed him so don’t do a u-turn. -

Discipline poor. Club suspenion. Injured constantly. Never showed enough in 5 years. Not even half the player Watts is so why retain him. Completely think Kent should have been delisted or let to go to Freo as swap for Balic. Yes by the way, it’s an opinion. -
Need to get 80,000 at the G round 1. Though that’s 50,000 Cats most likely, it’s a blockbuster round 1. Get games v Pies v Bombers v Tigers at the G plus sell off games to NT and the $$$$ roll in. Need to beat the pussyfooters round 1

2017 Player Reviews: # 16 Dean Kent

Unbelievable that he is still on the list. I had thought he was going to be ok with pace and a long penetrating kick. Years of potential but ultimately injured, out of form and ill-discipline. Had to be gone before Watts. Hard to comprehend. Needs an amazing renaissance in 2018 -
2017 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch

Yes happy with Wooller and Spargo at 29 & 31. If Coleman-Jones or Garner was available at 29, they would be also hard to pass on. Wooller is the real deal. Think of Jack Gunston but with more midfield aerobic potential. It is either Spargo or Dylan Moore as the small forward or midfielder. Agree Ling goes before our pick. Likely 22 to Cats in my opinion. 36 ... Zac Bailey would be good. Super fast and super classy. Or Trent Mynott as a fast running halfback. Has the AFL run and skill that translates up. 47... Hayden McLean appeals if we have not already selected a big body as he is a forward/ruck type. Seb Williams is a blue sky option. Liam Ryan or Tim Kelly are the mature age wildcards at this pick. -
Would be a Casey top up and if fit, used as coverage for Hogan. Full medical clearance needed before we started any discussions. A punt?
-
Ahhhh. Tough one. Talented. No doubt. Whats going on mentally is a query. Why hasn’t he made it or played more. He could be a very very good player.
-
Pick 47. Dees should seriously grab him. Courage. skills. Loves red & blue. Good pace. At this pick, it’s the “potential” and Seb has the makeup of an afl player
-
agree. Long goes to Cats at 22 or 24. They like their own backyard and they need pace
-
History will judge it. Will respond further in 5years
-
Ouch. Watts is top 100 based on that list. Hooker? Tom McDonald? But you had me in stitches with Liam Jones. FFS
-
Oscar Allen goes 16-21 in my opinion. Unlikely to be there at 29 and not our top priority.
-
Worpel reminds me of Sam Powell-Pepper and Matt Couch. He simply gets the footy and is a true footballer. He is at the contest and ready to play in 2018. Disposal is 50:50 so not a fit for the Dees. Probably goes to Kangas at 23, Cats at 24 or Giants at 27.
-
Yes Scott Jones is an option. Perhaps Keegan Brooksby Might draft Hayden McLean as forward/ruck
-
It’s a yes from me. Pick 36 most likely

Yes. It is his grandson. Cats might grab him at 35 ahead of Dees at 36. Probably Cats will take Balta at 22 (if available) and Ling at 24. -
It was like the Truman show. We sign off with Good afternoon, Good evening and Good night. History will judge the decision. How it was all done will also be debated. We wish Jack the very best, as a loyal Demon who will one day be back in some way to the club. Go Dees in 2018
-
Liam Ryan yes yes yes. He wont be a 7-10 year player. Look at 4-5 years and has some sensational moves. Worth a punt at pick 36,47
-
Thank you STMJ I have posted in the Petruccelle thread that I prefer Ling at pick 29 if available. He is quick. Skilled. Can really tackle and chase. Fits our requirements for an outside wing, but does possess toughness when needed. Can take the game on. Though Cats have picks 22 & 24 so Ling may not last.
-
Petruccelle floats in and out. A spasmodic player. He is fast. Sure. BUT turns over the footy too much and misses simple options. We don’t need that. Not a smart footballer. Pass!! Prefer Matthew Ling, Lachie O’Brien or Dylan Moore if they are still available at 29.

Well done Steve, and agree with all except for Petruccelle. He floats in and out and does not work hard enough to run off the ball. Petruccelles disposal is 50/50 at best. Turns it over too much even when no pressure. For a pacy midfielder, yes you are spot on with Ling as he is as quick and classy and tough. Toby Wooller as a 3rd tall forward should be the priority for us at pick 35-36. Great mark. Good kick for goal. General disposal is excellent.
