  1. Agreed. i would almost say Lewis as a forward offers us more value than Nathan Jones as a rotation, though i wouldn't support chopping Nathan Jones given what he's done for the club.
  2. Now that i think about it i think what i heard was the club was warming to the idea of Eade/Simpson if Roos didn't sign
  3. Ah heard wrong perhaps. apologies
  4. Plus i would say he's capable of having an impact next year, we'd have to get a legitimate superstar to even considering offering up pick 2 or a package of 2-3 very good players covering several needs in one hit.
  5. 3rd. we wanted Adam Simpson before he took the Eagles job, or so i've been told.
  6. And i've got no doubt they already are. i really think they should consider the Mini draft as a solution instead of impacting the 2019 draft. so essentially they get to pick 3 talents from the 2020 pool and offer them up a year early in exchange for a trade. i think that'd net the Gold coast suns at the least 3 very good draft selections in addition to their current one and wouldn't compromise the 2019 draft.
  7. Based on 2019 it would be 1. Max Gawn Daylight daylight 2. Clayton Oliver Daylight 3. Christian Salem 4. Christian Petracca 5. James Harmes 6. Steven May 7. Jack Viney 8. Sam Frost 9. Tom McDonald 10. Jack Viney
  8. the locks for our best 22 right now in my eyes B: Nev Jetta Steven May Jake Lever hb: Christian Salem Sam Frost ??????? c ??????? Clayton Oliver ???????? hf: Christian Petracca Tom McDonald Jake Melksham f: ???????? ???????????????? Bailey Fritsch Fol: Max Gawn Jack Viney ???????? I/C: Angus Brayshaw, James Harmes ???????? ??????? We need some outside run desperately I think we are light on for on field leadership. desperately need a second key forward target to take the pressure off McDonald. need to open up the war chest and chase a big name here.
  9. I seriously doubt it. i think they'll get their first pick, an end of first round pick and some other help. i don't think the AFL will like the precedent it'll set to give them that pick.
  10. If you're Nathan Jones i'm not sure why you wouldn't take the 260k and hope the extra money that is opened up can help bring a Brad Hill in so you get one last chance at a Premiership
  11. Yep. Unless Alister Clarkson expresses interested in joining the club as senior coach Goodwin will be our senior coach in 2020. but if we don't see some fairly significant improvement i don't imagine the club waiting to long to make a change.
  12. I spoke to a mate who has a fair bit to do with young Anderson and he said under no circumstances should we trade pick 2. said we will regret it bigtime even if we managed to sign Brad hill or someone of that sort. I wonder if we could role the dice on our 2020 first rounder and a later pick and try and land Hill and Langdon
  13. As a general rule i am uncomfortable with perscribing motive to people, but it's really hard to see how it's not at least partly based in racism when they're yet to come up with an actual legitimate reason for the abuse he copped.
  14. He's the Clarko of the high performance industry. this is an incredible get for the club. i'm really excited to see the sort of condition guys like Steven May and Christian Petracca get to under his guidance. Now lets get the coaching staff right
  15. In terms of his game plan he's made next to no obvious changes, maybe a few minor tweaks but he seems to think his game plan is flawless and if she just shuffles the magnets enough it'll fall into place. for me some of the weaknesses are very simple to fix. 1. need to get better ball users forward of center to maximise the quality of our kicks inside 50, Salem, Melksham, Jones, lewis, Fritsch, and even hold onto it until we can get it to one of these guys when numbers are back. 2. teach the players about changing tempos of the game, i've seen no clear improvement in the players understanding of when to change gears and tempos of the game, mostly we just seem to go hell for leather or way too slow. 3. hold our stoppage structure and make sure wings and flanks don't get sucked in. we have good ball hunters, back Viney, Oliver and Brayshaw to win it in close and get it out to the Salems of the world so they can use it. right now even when we do win it we don't have many options beyond an under pressure kick forward.
  16. I think from this moment on he has to play as a midfield rotation/tagger coming off the bench, with no guarantees of a spot and he plays for as long as he can hold his best 22 position. i don't think he should be captain in 2020. he's been one of the greatest demons we've ever had but i think his time is nearly up and holding onto the past could hurt the club in the now.
  17. The continuity and time of May and Lever together down back for the rest of the year is huge for us in our push for a stronger 2020. they need to play down there together as much as they possibly can for the rest of this year. i don't mind the idea of trialing Oscar McDonald down there.
  18. I see him as a 50 goal a year second key forward which is elite, issue is he's not currently playing as a second forward. so i am rating him strictly based on what i see his ideal position as, last year he was elite as a key forward with the support of Hogan there.
  19. It does pose a question of how good the list actually is my take on it is Elite players in their positions Clayton Oliver Max Gawn Steven May Jake Lever Tom McDonald Very good players - Would likely be 22 at most other clubs Christian Petracca Christian Salem Angus Brayshaw Jack Viney James Harmes Nev Jetta Nathan Jones Bailey Fristsch (Forward) Sam Frost (Raw but really talented) Michael Hibberd Jake Melksham Jayden Hunt Marty Hore While all the rest are probably fringe players. some are probably a bit stiff but trying to keep it realistic. So that leaves us with 5 genuine A grade players, two of whom have been injured for big parts of the year, and one who's been horrifically out of form and now injured. 60% of your top 5 players basically not being there significantly hurts any side. imagine the Eagles missing Gaff, Shuey and McGovern for significant portions of the year. and for good players you've got 13 - most have played a good chunk of the year, but there is a clear balance issue between inside and outside. outside of Frost and Hunt, none have real leg speed, only Salem and Melksham i'd say would be considered elite field kicks. 18 very good or above players shows the list is there to play finals. but we do need to balance it out better than it is now with positional changes, maximising strengths and being brave at the trade table my opinion is you can only carry one ball hunting inside midfielder these days, the rest have to offer something on the outside I think we lack genuine pressure forwards, forward structure, quality leading patterns and leadership to set up the forward line correctly. i think our midfield balance is exposed badly when all our mids first instinct is to go in and get the ball and they get sucked to the honey pot and if we don't win it, we get torched on the outside and even if we do we don''t have the class or the quality to get full value for it. down back we look solid but our lack of outside speed too often puts our defenders in the unwinnable position
  20. I think 99% of the time when they say clubs x,y and z are chasing it's either already common knowledge or they're just guessing. I'd guarantee that there would be 10 clubs keen on tippa minimum if he was actually gettable. which i don't think he is. i think he's leveraging outside interest to get a better deal at the dons. I thought Coniglio was doing the same but he seems to be on the way out
  21. They handed over a profitable football club with a finals ready list. they 100% did their job. and i think we should all be extremely grateful because people so easily forget how bad things were under Mark Neeld.
  22. pick 21 or whatever it is for Langdon and their third round pick. something like that. or upgrade our 4th to their third. I'd be going all out to get Brad Hill as well. the dream result would be to sign Hill, Langdon and keep 2 to use on Anderson.
  23. Not sure on Day. if i were in charge i'd move Viney forward, chase Dan Butler and go with Melksham Weideman Fritsch Viney Mcdonald Petracca and have Butler rotate through to provide extra pressure
  24. yep. see if we can snag Brads brother as a free agent, bring in Sam Gray and Dan Butler to provide some pressure and tackling up forward and have a sniff around for a KPF
  25. I personally don't like Langdon as a player and i wouldn't be giving up anything significant for him. he runs all day sure, but he's not a very good kick at all, makes average decisions and while he'd probably fit in, i don't see him being a regular in the best 22 or contributing in any meaningful way to improving this side to the point it can challenge for a flag. Brad Hill on the other hand... Speed, class, skills
