The 2019 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
Have heard the same thing. clubs not happy but the AFL were never seriously considering alternatives. it was always going to happen. i do wonder if we desperately want Noah Anderson would we entertain an upgrade. pick 3 and steak knives player to upgrade to pick 2

Jack Viney
Should stand down from the captaincy and focus on being the best player he possibly can be. we've made the same mistake over and over, Grimes, Trengove and now Viney. don't make a player captain until he has his game totally sorted. Max Gawn should be captain next season. potentially supported by Nev Jetta

Josh Mahoney
I agree, and think the external review will happen. the difficult thing to know is what level the club thinks the issues rise to, as in, if it's mostly injuries/coaching then Mahoney might not be the worst person to conduct the review, though i i think they'll get the second opinion as well.
-
Josh Mahoney
because people within the industry who deal with him think highly of him, he's played a huge role in retaining all the good young players we wanted to keep, and getting them on long term deals

What has happened to Salem?
One of a bunch playing hurt. confidence shot and trying to make their way in a totally non existent system, within a team desperately racing to the finish line so they can re-set. he'll be there round 1 2020 and is a super important player to us.

Josh Mahoney
i am of the opinion the external review will also occur at the same time, but ultimately if we don't improve next season, he and Goodwin will be under serious pressure to retain their positions. this is playing out so they get things exactly how they want them, if it doesn't work it falls directly on them.

Josh Mahoney
Josh Mahoney is incredibly highly rated within the industry for the role he does, and does an excellent job overall. which is why he's risen through the ranks very quickly. i've heard that he was right in the mix for the CEO position he's the least of our problems imo

Ben King
I reckon they'll feel Rowell is a somewhat safer option.

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ED LANGDON
I agree, similar trade value to Melksham and Hibberd. pick in the 20's and he improves our side with some much needed run and carry.
-
Ben King
from what i've seen in the draft Ben King is better than anyone outside of the top 2 if the GCS get a priority pick i think we should trade pick 2 for Ben King. if we could get 19 back in exchange for our 36 as well that would be a dream result. it's basically Noah Anderson at pick 2 or King or HIll and Langdon for pick 3

Get Adem Yze back to the Dees.
My basic view is that AFL football is a ruthless industry with little room for sentiment, we need to get the best possible team of coaches around the players for the 2020 season, i have a feeling there would be forwards coaches ahead of Yze that would be on the radar. it pains me to say that because Adam was one of my favourite players of all time.

The Stephen Coniglio Thread
I just shook my head when i read that. surely he knows it's not his place to get involved. but then, he's treated the competition like his play thing since day one. i really hope Coniglio goes now just to spite him.

Roos: Lazy Dees
Hard work motivating yourself if you don't believe in the coach, or the direction he's setting. i think it's a combination of the two.
-
The Lever Trade
lever and may both need an injury free run at it and some time to build some chemistry. May has looked good when he's played and i think Lever has been solid, but when he came to us he wasn't a gun one on one defender and the pies really managed to expose that.

Craig Jennings Gone at Seasons End
especially because Goody would have handpicked these guys, now he is saying his all star coaching line up is no good, where to now?
-
Shaun Higgins
I think the best parts of Higgins won't fade with time, he's a beautiful kick, a good leader, and very smart. i'd feel much better with him on a wing than i do with Jones out there.
-
Roos: Lazy Dees
Work ethic comes back 100% on the coaching team. if Goodwin can't motivate the players to behave like professional athletes then either the players go, or he does. we can't afford to waste another season.

The 2019 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
I don't mind the idea of trading the pick for the right deal. but only if there is confidence they know what's caused the fall this year and are absolutely sure next year won't be the same thing
-
Brad Hill
we really just need extra depth for a year or 2. i reckon Weid is going to come through really strongly in that time. it's why i don't mind the idea of Roughy one year transition into coaching. even if he hardly played he could teach Tom and Sam about forward craft

The 2019 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
I think the GC priority pick thing is happening. the last significant hurdle is the clubs where there will no doubt be strong opposition but when guys like Barrett and caro start saying it, the AFL is trying to slowly get the public to accept the fact this is happening.

The Future of Jordan Lewis
I don't mind giving him another year playing as a forward. i think his experience is huge for our group, and will be vital for us to push back up the ladder.
-
Brad Hill
to be honest i think the $$ side of things is where they have a big edge over us in this race.
-
Brad Hill
Nah nothing much else. we've left our run a bit late for Hill it seems but Langdon might be pretty close to over the line barring a big offer from another club.
-
Brad Hill
Hoping the people i'm speaking to are wrong, but i'm hearing the Saints and Hawks are ahead of us in the race for Hill. we are having to be pretty creative Salary cap wise to come up with a financial offer to get him and Langdon and it's looking like the club is prioirtising Langdon over Hill. and the Saints and Hawks have some money to splash.

What would it take to bounce back in 2020?
I'm still extremely bullish about 2020 and here is why. 1. our ladder position provides us with the opportunity to significantly improve our list. if we can add Langdon, Hill or ideally both, and somehow retain a later first round pick and only give up draft picks, i think our side already looks better and more balanced. 2. Our ladder position also provides us with what should be a significantly better draw than we had this year. 3. Our list is still quite young, another full pre season and some continuity and playing together should help team chemistry further develop. 4. the football department review should cause some new voices in the football program which has lead to some very positive results at other teams. 5. we have a good list, if we can get the game plan right, have a good run with injuries and secure an easier draw i think we put ourselves in a position to quickly build confidence and have a serious crack at top 4 in 2020.
