I mean personally i think Max Gawn and Tom McDonald are the two best leaders at the club, neither is captain. I think we're still operating on sentiment and emotion a little bit too much. i think Hawthorn would delist Jones and trade Viney. we don't have the courage to do so, rightly or wrongly. from the outside it looks like we maybe have too many assistant coaches, and a few that have been there too long but the messages clearly aren't getting through to the players. what's really alarming for me though is inability to do the absolute basics of the game, like how often do you see Melbourne hitting lead up forwards? i'm not sure of the stats but i'd imagine we're towards the bottom of the list for that.

Not sure an incentives based contract for Nathan is as much rolling over as it is common sense and good list management. if he finds form in a new role and plays all year it'll help the team a lot, if he doesn't he will play in the 2's and make a lot less. it's just saying if you want to keep going, you're no longer safe prove you're best 22 week in, week out and it likely won't be in your best role

I feel pretty strongly that we are going to come to the stage where we have to trade one of the three big inside bulls, Viney, Brayshaw, Oliver and in my opinion Viney is the most one dimensional of the three.
-
Hard to blame him based on some of the rumors about what's happened this year, if even half of them are true it paints a bleak picture.

I don't mind the review being internal only, i just don't think Mahoney is the right person, not because i don't rate him but i consider him a part of the football department. i think it should fall on the CEO, and i wouldn't mind the club asking Roosy to come back as an outside set of eyes to have a look as well. though i think some would think that's inappropriate which is fair enough. from the outside the questions i'd want to answer are Does Simon Goodwin listen to his assistants, does he delegate well enough, what's his relationship like with the players, is it too "Matey"? do we have the right leadership model with the co captains we currently have, or do we need a change in that space, i suspect Jones time as captain is probably done, and i wouldn't mind letting Viney focus on becoming the best player he can be and staying injury free without the added pressure. especially with a leader like Max at the absolute top of his game. does the current game plan stack up with the game styles that are pushing deep into finals, i know we made a prelim but will it continue to take us deep moving forward, i'd suggest we don't value defense enough to win a premiership but that's just my opinion. I think a lot of the fitness/injury questions are moot with the signing of Burgess. but maybe there are question marks around the attitude and commitment of the players that didn't come back ready for pre season in good condition.

I have no knowledge of if he will, or if he even wants to but he seems like he'd be the sort of person who'd be a great person to keep around in a coaching capacity. with rumours Max Rooke may be leaving he would surely be a good fit to fill the development coaching role that opens up?

Keith is definitely the type of player who could play up forward so i wouldn't be surprised if the plan is to bring him in and let him and May swing to either end depending on match ups

Small forwards - what are our trading and draft options?
Ted Lasso replied to Pates's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'd be all over Sam Grey and Dan Butler. both would provide some pressure and forward half tackles, both have speed and both are goal kickers and would cost little or nothing to get -
I'd agree if the conversation was around trading a pick that could land us Noah Anderson. but i don't think there is a clear drop off after the top 2 in this draft and not a huge cap from about 3-15
-
If we could somehow get Ash and Flanders for what would have been pick 3 i think that'd be a fantastic result. Ash in particular has a lot of the attributes we need and i really rate Flanders as a player. reminds me a bit of Jack Steven, powerful midfielder with a serious burst of speed. Ash, Flanders, Langdon, Amon, Newnes via F/A into the club and suddenly our midfield has a much better balance to it and great depth
-
For me the players in there aren't the issue, it's the fact they all get sucked in and we get smacked on the outside. we have make shift wingman because we don't have anyone who is genuinely of that position. Langdon will help this as will someone like Amon or Newnes if we look at them. a lot of it is having a string of inside mids who can't stop their instincts to hunt the ball. i personally think we need to seriously look at our stoppage coaching and get that set up right, with Gawn silver spooning it to them there is no excuse to not be top 3 in the league for effective clearances. another part of this is that the forward line almost never takes vanilla lead up marks because the forward structure/forward craft is a mess.
-
Just take it to the draft unless you can bring in an established star or combination of needed role players.
-
I agree, i think Papley has plenty of interest in him, i think that'll drive his price above what we could realistically pay. even Lewis Taylor could add some speed to the forward line for a good price
-
Bundle Brandon Matera up with Ed Langdon would be nice.
-
Would fit but the price is the entire discussion here. i suspect he'd want serious $$ and the suns would want serious compensation which probably rules us out.
-
Because Adelaide have gone from a grand final to terrible for two straight years, missed the finals with basically no injuries we've had one bad year with a truck load of injuries so it's not a fair comparison. the crows are a mess off the field and they need as many eyes looking at them as possible.
-
Apparently linked to the dogs, but could be a handy foil for McDonald next season.
-
If they pay part of his salary and he's happy to play forward i'd look at it. 202 cm he could be a very handy forward/ruck back up for Gawn
-
Some talk Brandon Matera may also look elsewhere, showed this year he was a dangerous small forward. i wonder if we could get him as well?
-
Don't think there is much to this, he wanted more midfield time and was frustrated with how the team went this year like everyone. but sounds like they're on the same page with that now.
-
I would be offering $$ and pick 3 to get Ben King from the GCS
-
Would wanna be a serious offer to even consider trading Angus Brayshaw.
-
Wouldn't go near him, this bloke is way too soft, can't play as a key forward.
-
This season will serve as the foot up the backside the entire club needs, players will come back in ripping condition. Steven May will come back in the best shape of his life and win All Australian Selection. the club will finish just outside the top 4 and win a final, but ultimately fall just short of really challenging.
-
He's a defender but he certainly has the attributes to play forward in my opinion. has a good set of hands, as Mach said he's coming into the right age bracket and we'd probably get him for a packet of smiths crinkle cut, so definitely worth considering.
