  1. Interesting thing is, if you're saying a player is worth 900k per season, hard to then turn around and say he's not worth 2 first rounders, especially when contracted. i really hope Freo milk this for all it's worth. two first rounders, or one and a very good player or no deal.
  2. I don't see his personality working in the capacity of an assistant coach, but has apparently expressed interest in becoming a GM of football at some stage, so if Mahoney is changing his focus maybe that's something worth considering though i think we'd be better off going experienced there with Balme, Walsh etc
  3. I know which one of those options i'd rather. May has looked very good when on the park and Lever has been down, but we know his best is very good. both with be fine. Burgess will have them fighting fit next season.
  4. I suspect a big part of it is keeping fan interest high by fueling speculation, i'm sure the Dees talk to just as many players but make more of an effort to keep it quiet than other sides who are happy enough for it to get out.
  5. Saints are screwing themselves. between Brad Hill and Dan Hannebry they'll have 1.7 mil per locked up. incredible
  6. I agree, i think it's being put back on Mahoney and Goodwin though, get it right now, or changes will be made. i firmly believe we will also have an external review going on that will include Mahoneys position.
  7. Bit of talk around that we will try and downgrade our first rounder if it's pick 3 to two later first round picks. and potentially even move on the 2020 first rounder to try and get something else back in the first round. i quite like this because i don't think the club is really 100% sure themselves what's gone on this year and needs to plan a little each way, we might rise back up the ladder, but we also might not, so if we can get 3-4 first round draft picks and really boost that young core and keep building for the future as well as add say Ed Langdon i think we are in a good spot. I believe Jeremy Cameron is a free agent next year? and lots of talk of him coming back to Vic so may be worth popping pick 3 under the Giants nose and seeing if they're tempted to maximise their value.
  8. I agree, this is why i rate Mahoney at the trade table. he's happy to pay slight overs to get deals done early so they can focus on other things, and i believe that good will gets extended back to us at times because we're easy to deal with. Bell had overplayed his hand from the start though because the freo supporters thought they were finally landing Hogan, so if he stuffed it up he was done before he'd even really started.
  9. Peter Bell is a joke, last year coming out and publicly saying they were no longer pursuing Hogan because the Dees were asking too much only to recruit him a few days later for exactly what we were asking.
  10. still 100% believe this young list will do something very special, and we will bounce back hard next year so i will be a member again
  11. I just don't agree with compromising the top 10 of the draft for any reason at all. it flies right in the face of the equalisation policies. they should have been given pick 11 and pick 20. so they get 1, 11, 19,20 and then off field assistance and access to state league players without screwing over other clubs.
  12. Have heard the same thing. clubs not happy but the AFL were never seriously considering alternatives. it was always going to happen. i do wonder if we desperately want Noah Anderson would we entertain an upgrade. pick 3 and steak knives player to upgrade to pick 2
  13. Should stand down from the captaincy and focus on being the best player he possibly can be. we've made the same mistake over and over, Grimes, Trengove and now Viney. don't make a player captain until he has his game totally sorted. Max Gawn should be captain next season. potentially supported by Nev Jetta
  14. I agree, and think the external review will happen. the difficult thing to know is what level the club thinks the issues rise to, as in, if it's mostly injuries/coaching then Mahoney might not be the worst person to conduct the review, though i i think they'll get the second opinion as well.
  15. because people within the industry who deal with him think highly of him, he's played a huge role in retaining all the good young players we wanted to keep, and getting them on long term deals
  16. One of a bunch playing hurt. confidence shot and trying to make their way in a totally non existent system, within a team desperately racing to the finish line so they can re-set. he'll be there round 1 2020 and is a super important player to us.
  17. i am of the opinion the external review will also occur at the same time, but ultimately if we don't improve next season, he and Goodwin will be under serious pressure to retain their positions. this is playing out so they get things exactly how they want them, if it doesn't work it falls directly on them.
  18. Josh Mahoney is incredibly highly rated within the industry for the role he does, and does an excellent job overall. which is why he's risen through the ranks very quickly. i've heard that he was right in the mix for the CEO position he's the least of our problems imo
  19. I reckon they'll feel Rowell is a somewhat safer option.
  20. I agree, similar trade value to Melksham and Hibberd. pick in the 20's and he improves our side with some much needed run and carry.
  21. from what i've seen in the draft Ben King is better than anyone outside of the top 2 if the GCS get a priority pick i think we should trade pick 2 for Ben King. if we could get 19 back in exchange for our 36 as well that would be a dream result. it's basically Noah Anderson at pick 2 or King or HIll and Langdon for pick 3
  22. My basic view is that AFL football is a ruthless industry with little room for sentiment, we need to get the best possible team of coaches around the players for the 2020 season, i have a feeling there would be forwards coaches ahead of Yze that would be on the radar. it pains me to say that because Adam was one of my favourite players of all time.
  23. I just shook my head when i read that. surely he knows it's not his place to get involved. but then, he's treated the competition like his play thing since day one. i really hope Coniglio goes now just to spite him.
  24. Hard work motivating yourself if you don't believe in the coach, or the direction he's setting. i think it's a combination of the two.
  25. lever and may both need an injury free run at it and some time to build some chemistry. May has looked good when he's played and i think Lever has been solid, but when he came to us he wasn't a gun one on one defender and the pies really managed to expose that.
