The Melbourne Football Club needs stars, not average players
Ted Lasso replied to Grimseyisgod's topic in Melbourne Demons
1-2 quality mids and time into our young boys and that will sort itself out -
I don't get it, it's just a photo of Jesse... hahah

Few points that need to be adressed when considering candidates 1. what is their capacity to sell hope to the members, supporters sponsors for mine that would be Choco Eade Craig 2.What is their track record like in developing players Choco Eade Craig who has the most successful track record as a coach Choco Eade Craig the only points i would say that make Craig stand out are he is going to be cheaper and he has already got a relationship with the players, imo these two shouldn't factor into the end decision, it's about no cutting corners and getting the best possible coach to take our club forward, no more gambles.
-
craig will get the nod unless someone is so good they cant say no, and it may not be a bad thing, not my preference but not my decision either
-
for mine the decision comes to who can develop the players the most in the next 3 years
-
He will try his luck at finding a new home in 2014, he has certainly been in our best 22 imo for most of the year.
-
We have to get things right for next year and the year after, if we stuff this decision up guys like Frawley, Hogan, Nathan Jones will start to doubt their position on the list being worthwhile, it is Vital we get the right coach to sell them hope as much as anything else.
-
I'd give them Sam Blease for Greenwood, i think Blease is an icing on the cake type player and right now we don't have a cake to ice, Blease or if Watts decides to leave maybe greenwood and their second round pick would be suitable
-
I agree Alias275, we need to ditch the search for a savior, we need to look at the candidates and decide who is going to make us the strongest club in three years time, Eade has done it all before, Craig knows the players already and they love him and Choco's record speaks for itself, i know Todd viney really rates Eade and thought he should have been the coach ahead of Neeld, not sure if that will have an impact on the decision now.
-
I don't really believe we will get Craig, i feel while he is a good coach, Eade is a far better option for us, loved his work at the Swans and the Dogs, while he didn't get a flag his system works in terms of building clubs, building young lists and developing players. of the credentials we are looking for he certainly does sell hope because he has done it all before develops players as well as any coach i have ever seen has a proven track record in terms of working with and developing young teams, installing confidence in a group plus i think Jack Watts will run if we hire Eade and i've had enough waiting for him to come good one day.

We can't do much about the fact Neeld was a total ballsup and that made the rest of this year almost a right off, but i found Craig to be very defensive, much like Neeld, when our side is playing it's best it's showing the attacking flair that got the players drafted high up, not flooding the backline and going into damage control at the first opportunity. and no, Paul Roos is a much different sort of prospect, i don't think his actual coaching Record is that much better than Craigs, craigy could very easily have won a couple of flags but Roos is a culture builder on a whole different level to any of the other candidates. Eade has built teams from our position to top four teams, more than once, he has done well everywhere he has gone, got the most out of his players, he is obviously the man for the job, infact he was the man for the job in late 2011 when we hired Neeld.
-
Mate i am certain Craig was hired in the Rodney Eade role as a senior Assistant, David Mission is running our sports performance side of things, you don't pay that sorta money for a bloke with senior coaching experience if it's not to sure up a younger senior coach and that sort of setup was the flavour of the month. Not saying he can't coach, or he is not a very good coach, i just feel that Eade and Williams are clearly better prospects for us, and Craig himself would not be able to sell much if any hope to supporters and sponsors.
-
How do you sell hope to players, members, supporters and so on with a coach who only a few weeks ago was beaten easily by GWS? thumped by the Kangaroos by 122 points and seems to have the same sort of defensive mindset as his disaster of a mentor earlier this year. Selling hope is the first and most important task of the new coach or we will wind up with 15,000 members next year and take another jump backwards Nothing against Craig but if we just give him the job because Brisbane were sniffing around we have stuffed up this decision bigtime imo, there are better candidates.
-
My biggest concern is the Neeld thing, i know others don't think it's a problem but i feel because his job was essentially to oversee Neeld and that was a total disaster for the club, maybe he isn't the right man for the job. i'm glad the decision is left to much more informed people than me, hopefully craig would have noticed the problems Neeld was causing and taken steps to fix them.
-
We aren't going to be an attractive destination for top midfielders unless they're money hungry, fringe players are our best Chance and of the fringe players greenwood should be target number 1.
-
i am certain craig would want his own game plan so they would need to ajust to that, knowing the players is great but he has also been there through the neeld disaster as an overseer, imo that could put doubts in the minds of players. but i agree we should hang onto him in some capacity
-
why do we hit the ground running with craig and not with eade or williams, hiring craig would be ignoring two better options
-
i really hope thats not the case, i cant see how eade and williams arent better options
-
kelly is abit skinny for mine, his real asset is his endurance which wont be such an advantage at afl level, sheed or scharenberg would be worth chatting too
-
Glenn Bartlett said today that a proven track record in player development and development programs were required for our next coach, Choco and Eade both have this but i'm not sure Craig does, the crows were already fairly strong when he took over

Jack Watts - More Discussion (for those who haven't had enough)
Ted Lasso replied to dees189227's topic in Melbourne Demons
at least col looks like he wants to be out there -
would we consider taking anyone other than aish at 2?
-
would pick 21 be a fair swap?

Has talent to burn no question, but if we were to be offered a first round pick say 10-15 or something i'd personally be seriously considering it you're correct Jack Watts is an asset, so many young kids with number 4 on their backs, he has the versatility and skills to play any position and a good coach might be able to turn him into an absolute star of the game, but he may decide to walk anyway. If Jack watts wants to stay we keep him unless we get a crazy good offer, if he doesn't we settle for nothing less than a first round pick or a quality experienced player or he ends up at GWS, carlton and Freo are both pretty interested imo so they won't be letting that happen, carltons first round pick would be a pretty decent chance of being offered
