For those attending.... Parking is easily found in the service road that starts at the St Francis Xavier Church. From there it's a 200 metre stroll to the ground. Take a fold up chair or picnic rug. There's a nice grass hill behind the goals and a smaller grassed area on the flank area. Not much space behind the other goal (permanently shaded) or along the Middleborough rd side but if the ground is full it's okay. There's a small grandstand. Catering is standard. With a crowd beyond say 3-4k it would be crowded but miles better than say Punt Rd.

Extrapolating from the August figures for all clubs that puts us 6th or 7th. Of the Melbourne clubs we are 5th and Essendon is within sight... (79k members) Well done * Hawks have not published their figures https://www.sportingnews.com/au/afl/news/membership-numbers-2023-all-time-members-record/fk66mawntzeiuv0l1ivnqeu0

70,000 it is Well done MFC

I don't see how his signing prevents him from being part of a trade. Sure Port have set his $ value and contract length but he can still be traded for Grundy
-
If the small forwards can deliver 5 goals between them we win. The others will do the rest

Congratulations Laura on your appointment. Perhaps some tasks : I'd be reviewing the 4th umpire. I have no idea if it is worth the extra umpire but I'd like a study of some kind done. Friday night games to start at 7:20 please. Hate 3:20 Sunday but it seems to be fixed in stone. And if it's in her remit get WatchAFL into the 21s century (720p for the price is lamentable)

I've mentioned Goldstein before. He won't come cheap but for say $400k you get a good ruck that can give Gawn six odd games off over the season and act as a backup. Give him an assistant coaching role at VFL/AFL level to sweeten the deal. One year only and then recruit for best available as potential number 1 ruck going forward

Agree The North game was unlike any MFC or Casey game you might see. It was played mainly in that area we generally abhore.. The corridor. North had innumerable turnovers (Casey had a few) leading to good forward 50 entries with players (wait for it)... dropping their eyes and delivering to the advantage of the forwards

The AFL section is redefined on a match by match basis by reference to past attendance and club support numbers. For Hawthorn and Essendon games it's much larger than for MFC games. At finals time it reverts to its allocated size as agreed with the MCC back when Waverley closed

Agree from my reading of the 2016 rules (2016 being the first year of the pre finals bye)

As part of the Taylor Swift rush they let it be known that there's no concept of a queue. The secret algorithm allocates you a spot when you enter. That's why people suggest multiple devices as you get more "tickets" in the algorithm lottery. In their defence this is supposed to reduce computer bots

The MFC curse never leaves you Giants small forward Toby Bedford was not so lucky, with Christian offering him a one-match ban for his bump on the Blues’ Zac Fisher. It is Bedford’s second rough conduct offence, after he was suspended for one match late last year when he was still playing for Melbourne, for a dangerous tackle on Swan Ollie Florent. Christian assessed Bedford’s action as careless conduct, medium impact and high contact. GWS have already announced they will appeal the sanction in a bid to clear the ex-Demon for the Giants’ elimination final on Saturday week against St Kilda at the MCG.

One was off the ground in a pack. Another was when he was alone in the 50 metre arc and there was a turnover. I think the third was from a free kick but I'm not sure

Must be about time for the MRO to announce its decision on this

The Casey match is now confirmed for Saturday at noon Interestingly the game is at Box Hill Oval and not at Bulldog's home ground
-
He's okay but he's not fast anymore. What he will do is draw the number 1 tall defender thus allowing JVR a better chance. At Casey he was playing deep in the main which won't work at AFL level. It's about balance. Had Melksham not been injured he would have been challenging for Smith's spot. We need to beat the Pies simply because we have no more tall forwards in the cupboard and each game carries an injury risk
-
GWS should easily beat the Saints. The others are genuine 50/50 games with Lions shading Port simply because of home ground advantage. The same for Carlton over Sydney
-
If Petracca is going to play forward 70% there could be a role.
-
There will be a story every day. Luckily Carlton are still in it but Collingwood drive viewing numbers. AFLW starts this weekend but you'd hardly know it
-
Without this injury JM would have been offered another year simply because our forward stocks are so low. Hopefully it's the 12 week type of knee problem rather than the 12 month one. Does raise the issue of insurance/compensation for players like JM and Dunstan who are both facing a loss of income from final year or country football etc

Grundy played almost full time ruck on Sunday. The forward experiment was nowhere to be seen other than in the last quarter when he was resting. The idea of a half each has merit though
-
This is the conundrum. The Thursday night game means that those who play in the Casey game will probably only have a five if not 4 day break. Realistically it means the likes of TMac and possibly Grundy won't play. Same for Hibberd Another example of the VFL comp not doing what it should. We could ask for a Friday night VFL game perhaps

CASEY: Wild Card vs North Melbourne
Diamond_Jim replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Maybe.. do you give him a run against he bulldogs (VFL) or not. If we get the Thursday night QF it may preclude the Casey hit out
