  1. 36 odd points scored by Tigers since our last goal what a joke the MFC is
  2. I certainly know which game has had the more rule changes !!!
  3. I like this... perhaps the proceeds could go to Reach
  4. Much easier to predict with single electorate system. The result was predicted within a minute of polls closing and Francois Fillon was conceding within half an hour. The interesting thing is that neither of the run off candidates have formal party backing. The French political system has similarities to the US system and it is difficult to pursue an agenda unless you have support in the equivalent to the US Congress. The role of the Prime Minister in France is particularly tricky if he/she is from a different party to the President. Have you guys watched Spin? It is a fantastic show based on spin doctors and French politics.
  5. Excellent article Tennis betting occurs on what we would think are insignificant matches. May not be too far into the future when you can bet on the Dimboola thirds. It is obvious that gaming has gone way too far in the sports context. Time for it to go just like tobacco advertising. I do notice that they are getting a little more savy... when you load the AFL app for the first time you have to tick a box if you want the game odds to show..
  6. Back in our glory days ... (remember some of those few years in the 90's and thereabouts) I would love a Friday night game (win) so it allowed you to enjoy the weekend while watching other teams slog it out. Somehow I cannot remember such a feeling for many many years
  7. The AFL brought over one of the guys who advises the NFL on minimizing concussion. Heard him interviewed on the radio. FWIW I recall him saying that the structure of the AFL game as played was not a high concussion risk sport. Hope he is right. NFL on the other hand maximises high risk repetitive body contact not only with the ball carrier but also the defensive and offensive lines. The one who is often at most risk perhaps is the quarterback who can take a big hit when hit by a blindsided sacking. The upside if there is one is that such sackings while not rare are not common.
  8. Under the present game plan he has little chance. His form at VFL is solid but he lacks the flair and speed to push his way into the AFL team bar significant injuries. I was hoping for a different outcome but it does not look promising.
  9. MFC has a reputation of being brittle and deservedly so after the Freo game. Lose tonight and we will be regarded by Essendon as a very beatable team and we end up 2-4 with season and crowd following in the doldrums. Time for the team to stand up and deliver its future.
  10. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-04-23/another-concussion-puts-angus-brayshaws-immediate-playing-future-under-cloud
  11. Must say we seem to be making more changes than results and VFL form would suggest however I suspect that there are some firm convictions as others have mentioned as to how the game plan should be executed. I am starting to wonder if the coaching staff are playing to the game plan rather than to win and therefore with an eye on the future. Could be an interesting season.
  12. Swans look to be going 0-5 ....hard to see them coming back from such a start
  13. North reminds me of the Black Knight never knows when to give up Perhaps I am just jealous
  14. Pardon my ignorance but do either of Hibberd or Smith provide relief rucking or is it still up to Jack? thanks
  15. They probably still talk about that game over dim sum in the Forbidden City !!
  16. follow the Storm on TV now and then for the same reason. At least they give you a good run for your money unlike a certain AFL team has done over the last several years
  17. Just knew the FTA game tonight is Freo v NM and not the far more interesting Sydney game.... yawn......
  18. Was trying to explain to my neighbour the other day that AFL is probably one of the worst sports for TV camera coverage in the sense of strategic game coverage. Must be hell for the director. That being said I live for the day when I have control of the camera shots... overhead, close up , player tracking you name it but I want to make the choice
  19. strange game Bulldogs ... five goals in 12 minutes and then almost scoreless to Lions 2 points very late in the quarter
  20. Lions doing a cats (appropriate) and Dogs doing a demon with those kicks on goal
  21. May as well open the season in Darwin given the lack of space for visiting supporters at the Geelong "boutique stadium." Then again if it gets us a Thursday, Friday or Saturday free to air night game I'd take it
  22. When Foxtel was in its early days the FTA channels were negotiating their product being shown on Foxtel. The big sticking point was not whether the FTA wanted to give a leg up to Foxtel (the FTA's thought they had to be on pay to survive due to the method of cable/satellite delivery) but whether they would be positioned as 2, 7 , 9 etc on the Foxtel dial. That main positioning on the Channel 7 position as Dr G points out is very important notwithstanding the additional channels now run by the FTA group. For another pointer to how important "channel identification" is to the FTA players have a look at the fights over EPG (electronic program guides) which never really got off the ground in Oz due to objections by FTA. On a separate note I have been watching the spin off from the Good Wife. It is called the Good Fight. It shows on CBS All Access which is a "normal pay channel." Will be interesting to see if other FTA's around the world go the pay route
  23. Because of this thread I looked for the Port (back of jumper sponsor) on the TV last night.... I still remember Scott's transport. Anyway despite hard looking on my rather large TV ...and having my glasses on... it probably took me about 15-20 mins until the TV showed a back shot where the sponsor's name was readable and even then I had to extrapolate (guess) the words because they were not clear. As it was Renault one could tell from the stylised R. Front sponsors were much easier to identify due to close up shots of player fronts. Just an observation.
  24. The Port 'faithful' are out in force... looks like a very good crowd considering the city of Adelaide loyalties. Bruce's talking up of Carlton is embarrassing .... the game is a mismatch
