  1. What genius at AFL fixturing gave us two consecutive away games interstate. Doesn't fuss me overly given that the season is dead but if we had been flying form wise it would have been an issue. I'm even looking forward to Darwin this year... a great chance to play loads of kids. If you count the North game in round 23 that we play in Tasmania we play interstate six times.
  2. ebooks my friend... save the rainforest Even the Old man and the Sea is digistised.
  3. Great point Earnest.... In these days of youtube wunderkinds this is the perfect opening for a couple of live wired female football fans to make their mark. Increasingly everybody has the youtube app on their TV etc so it's easy access for viewers. AFL is careful to control the rebroadcast of its footage and photos etc but the past has shown there can still be success without those add ons. Have been watching several food/travel youtubers recently and the money some of them make astounds me.
  4. Covering the railyards has been the mythical solution for so long it's akin to finding the North West Passage. To suggest that a Government would allow the significant rail disruption for a football club admin centre is just not on. It would need to be part of something much bigger and it would be twenty years in the making. If you want a left field solution how about an underground cut and cover facility in Yarra Park. Would probably fail due to the above ground trees but that's the kind of thing... and it needs to be green with cutting edge community benefits etc etc
  5. Groundbreaking TV in its day but irrelevant as much of FTA has become. Probably last watched it in the 2000 finals series.
  6. Looking at it selfishly Sydney Brisbane Collingwood St Kilda Port v Crows.. probably even Geelong Hawks Freo
  7. One of those games where a win means little but a loss would send shivers through the club. I having flashbacks to the St Kilda game which in a way ended our season. The key is that our players find form in this game and maintain dominance for the majority of the game. If we can get our forward line working.. a big "if".... it should be a 40 point win.
  8. ANB is a listed emergency for the AFL team. They will take two emergencies to the Gold Coast. By my count that will leave 7 MFC players for the game at Windy Hill. Must be getting close to a record low.
  9. Ah.. the G word let's be honest if you still have 70% of your players and you can't beat the GCS it ain't the the players. We're 9 weeks into the season .. 12 if you count JLT etc... off season ops etc are not an excuse. A win tomorrow means little... a loss on the other hand
  10. Doubt Lewis is on $600K plus. Maybe 500k for two years plus the third at say $300k. He came to us because we offered three years and we all knew if we got two years that would be great. The fact that he is among the first picked in his third year is not his fault.
  11. famous maxim in politics.... Politics is the art of the possible. Time perhaps to stop tilting at windmills
  12. I suspect Waverley has planning restrictions . The grandstand is heritage listed for example. The Dingley project will rival the Essendon facilities at Tullamarine (which by the way includes the admin staff) Kingston Council already assisted the Hawks with a planning scheme amendment that enables them to use the Dingley site for sports and social activities, as well as advertising at the ground and nearby. "This is a project, when completed, which we hope will service our needs for the next 50 to 100 years," Kennett said. "We've got to get it right … it is probably going to cost about $135 million. "It's a massive project, but when completed, we will be the only club in the AFL who owns their facility. Everyone else is built on crown or state land. "We don't know what's going to happen to (current base) Waverley just yet. We still own it … we might retain it, we might sell it – those decisions will be made closer to the time." A Monash Council source confirmed to AFL.com.au they were in the dark about Hawthorn's intentions for Waverley Park, but the expectation was the oval would remain regardless. Kennett previously stated that construction would not start until the Hawks raised about half of the funds required, but still hopes that process will begin next year. https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-02-18/hawks-set-to-unveil-grand-plan-for-new-dingley-fortress
  13. presumably they will only take two as travelling emergencies. Won't be many MFC players left for VFL duties
  14. The race club will want real money for the lease of any admin facilities. The oval is another matter but isn't it used as a carpark on race days not to mention that the early part of the Caulfield carnival may begin during the finals season. ( A big problem for a club like the MFC which features so strongly at that time of year !) As you say worth investigating because it ticks the box of a multi use facility. Our training watchers could combine with some good track watching.
  15. you touch on an interesting point OD ie the degree of exclusivity increasingly required by an AFL club for its training space. Most of the training ovals are now no go areas as far as the public are concerned. Gosch's Park is one of the main exceptions. Arden Street was open ..not sure if it still is. In this regard going back to Vic Park would be a retrograde step for the CFC not to mention that the oval would probably be smaller. The hard reality is that the best location from a long term player facility development aspect is Casey. How we deal with the cultural home aspect is a separate challenge which would be easily fixed with a few premiership flags !!
  16. Thrown at the Western Suburbs more particularly as a community sporting precinct. It's not too hard to work out the boxes one must tick for funding etc which makes it all the more amazing that anyone thought the Jolimont Park idea would ever fly.
  17. The St Kilda game suggests we will struggle against GC unless we improve. Last week was a slight improvement but it certainly wasn't a resounding win. The sheer numerical nature of the injuries is impacting team balance and shows little sign of improving... one step forward.. one back eg Weideman, Preuss Tim Smith none can get a clear run before you even look at the 5 or 7 long term injuries. This weeks VFL match at Windy Hill could have the lowest number of AFL players we have ever fielded.
  18. It is so obvious that this is the move from a facilities and finance view. The challenge is how to maintain a near CBD presence but it is easier answered than going for a compromised facility in Jolimont and its surrounds. For those who are not aware of the grounds at Casey Fields it is a precinct for high development sport so things like pools and high level gyms etc are on the cards. No I don't like it but it is the answer.
  19. Weideman plays a decent game albeit at Casey and has soreness. One has to just laugh... this season is getting better by the week.
  20. Next weeks game is against the Bombers at Windy Hill. Saturday 2:10pm Have not been to that ground for almost fifty years. If the weather's okay I may drop along. $5 for MFC members.
  21. Guntston is elite. His accuracy which was his strength has let him down in he last two seasons. In the 2018 finals he almost beat us off his own boot alone.
  22. was thinking the same thing but just checked the Adelaide weather radar and while cold with a strong breeze it's bone dry.
  23. Weather forecast for Brisbane next Saturday is sunny and a maximum of 23 with a stiff breeze. Should not be too much different on the Gold Coast. The match starts at 4:35pm. We have struggled in the heat so far this year and while this is pleasant weather it's the kind of weather that a fast team excels in. Could be a close one.
  24. Hi KC mentioned 3 goals to Weid but I see the match report only lists 2. Dee-Licious posted earlier that he had 2 goals 3 behinds and was playing well. Looking forward to the final match report.
  25. Great to hear. A solid game against the suns might be just what he needs.
