  1. The new training grounds involve two ovals and an aircraft hangar size internal training facility plus the gymnasium, pool and of course the admin facility. You are speaking of major space.
  2. guess who they have beaten ?
  3. Let me explain... the blunt bulldozer works against the kick it around style of the hawks if you can prevent the slingshot attack that killed us last year. Against a fast run and carry/outside gameplan it fails. Geelong, GWS, Saints, Suns and a few others all play this style
  4. Incredibly boring game but credit where it is due... Clarkson is the master of the game plan. Like a python squeezing the life out of its prey before devouring it. GWS will take us to pieces if we play the blunt bulldozer gameplan in our present form.
  5. Essendon training facility..... Address: 275 Melrose Dr, Melbourne Airport VIC 3045 12 kms from Windy Hill and 4k straight down Melrose Drive to terminal 3. Essendon airport is on the other side of the freeway and 5k back the other way. It is nowhere near the spiritual home of the Bombers at Windy Hill. Anyway Casey is in the metropolis of Melbourne...
  6. Agree Old dee. The only one who had a pick me game was Preuss but as posted elsewhere Essendon were very short of talls. If Weideman is fit I would play him and Preuss up forward allowing T Mac to go back. Let's be honest we stand no chance against the Eagles unless we think out of the square. Even then we would need a miracle.
  7. a background article the subject player is not available mid year but there is talk of others https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-05-12/ineligible-for-midseason-draft-but-this-elite-talent-is-turning-heads
  8. no they are at Tullamarine 12 kms from the old Windy Hill...think across the freeway from Gladstone Park... nothing remotely "Essendon" about the location
  9. Interesting that the Bombers have almost completely abandoned Windy Hill. When I was there yesterday there was little signage or the like identifying it as Essendon. Sure a couple of the stands had the names of famous past players and some seats had the old... "reserved for Essendon past players and officials" stenciled on them but if you had not known the history it was just a suburban ground with a few more facilities than the old Brunswick Street ground occupied by Fitzroy all those years ago. What I am trying to say is that the Bombers left their patch years ago. It can be done.
  10. Saw him yesterday at Windy Hill at the 3/4 time huddle. Walking well for what's that worth. Jetta on the other hand looked sore.
  11. Toorak Park... way too small going forward Docklands.... little/no community benefit and therefore no funding Elsternwick... don't know too much but is presently the umpiring training facility. Gosch's park... see Docklands and it is a major vehicle/train/tram thoroughfare adding greatly to costs
  12. That's fifteen... if I understand correctly there are 40 on an AFL list plus 7 rookies. Perhaps we may need to call some demonlanders up for a game. PS: There was a time several years back when Collingwoood had to advertise for players to make up their VFL numbers
  13. LH.. there is an episode of Yes Minister about funding a football club. It's hilarious as always and involves a trade off between a derelict museum and the local footy club. The outcome is a masterpiece of compromise as always. On a serious note the MCC have no interest in us at all save that if our attendances drop off and another club takes off .. say Carlton there will be pressure for us to play more games at alternative stadiums. Where the mistake was made was that we should have demanded training rights at the MCG back in 1970 (?) or whenever we were forced out and then we could have leveraged that into a real facility. Serious hindsight I know but its time for some long term planning.
  14. Nothing much to enjoy about yesterday. Not even the glimpses of co-ordinated play that we saw for a quarter or so against the Hawks. The injuries have decimated team consistency but the lack of form by several of the big names is worrying. The bright spots are the form of Hore and Lockhart albeit that the latter had a relatively quiet game yesterday. Next week will probably be ugly and we will play the Eagles back into premiership form. If Weideman is fit I would play him and Preuss up forward giving us the option to switch T Mac down back. To keep the Eagles to a losing score will require a coaching masterpiece.. something we have sadly lacked for the last few years. The old blunt bulldozer approach will certainly not suffice. Actually there was one bright spot and that is the inaccuracy. Fix that and it should add another four goals.
  15. Weid is a certainty for Perth along with Preuss. My guess is Tom Mac down back with the above up forward. Let's face it we're desperate. Just to put some balance in about the Casey game. Essendon were devoid of talls. Preuss had a day out and deservedly dominated. They might be on top of the ladder but Bombers VFL side have played the bottom sides.. Coburg, Frankston North ... Miracles do happen but hell... we'd need one to get close to the eagles in Perth
  16. Good question we have often had low key Melbourne games and missed the showdowns. Not sure if Channel 7 understand the modern football fan. Or is it the AFL dictating this aspect?
  17. it was this little two foot job on the far wing. Even when it was pointed out to me I had to ask again. Every other VFL ground I have been to have had prominent large scoreboards and some even have a second. The food was very mundane and there didn't seem to be any craft food/beer in sight. The strange thing was that there were no gates.. ie all were open. So I saved my $5 away fee. (Obviously they don't have many paying guests or perhaps when you are as wealthy as th Bombers you don't need it !!)
  18. You would have thought we won with such a glowing write up ? Thanks Joeboy you are my go to thread. Goodwin... change the gameplan Perhaps he did slightly but it's still no good
  19. well... I didn't see that coming definitely un Melbourne like
  20. a draw will fix our percentage problem for those who think we can still make finals
  21. we've got the close one !!
  22. Probably slipped away against the Saints and was definitely finished after the Tigers game.
  23. They used to kick higher scores in the mud patches of Glenferrie Oval and Princes Park. What has happened to this game
  24. 55 minutes for one goal ... I know I keep saying it but..... Gameplan
