WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ADAM TOMLINSON
yep...hasn't worked well for North. Hopefully they believe the 2019 was an aberration line. ?

Hayden Young (Drafted by Fremantle)
Pace or more importantly burst speed is so essential at AFL level. You can have the most sublime skills at junior level but if you get caught in a tackle or get caught flat footed while your opposition turns you that's the end. Hard decisions.

Eddie Betts
there's a lot of sense in that post. Length of contract term is probably what will sway a lot of clubs. I suspect he would be asking a two year minimum and the club that offers three will get him. I'd consider 2 years with a third year trigger of say 25 AFL goals.

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ADAM TOMLINSON
good idea but the better ones come at a price. If we can land Langdon and Tomlinson plus use pick 3 and 20 on young players I for one will be very happy with the outcome of this trading period. I see no reason to trade for Langdon which will send Freo into apoplexy but we need to play tough if we are going to get out of this eternal rut the club seems to find itself in. If we need salary cap space I would consider trading Brayshaw butI live in hope we can see that late 2018 form again...boy was he good !!

Damien Barrett's scathing assessment of the MFC
The Bury situation is a good reminder of how the VFL was run before what we now call the AFL commission. It showed that clubs left to themselves couldn't run the proverbial chook raffle.Youngsters forget that even as recently as the '80's clubs like Collingwood were close to going broke. I was involved with some clubs on the periphery and serious questions were being asked by bankers as to how you could repossess a spectator stand. The good news is that none of the clubs are that bad anymore but with equalisation etc and AFL payments there is a new sherrif in town. Not too unlike the EU which many love to hate but without it Europe would be a mess. Mind you I've never understood the benefit of the single monetary union.

Damien Barrett's scathing assessment of the MFC
think that is close as you don't count all of the MCC members in the figure. Online the figures suggested were around 25k excluding MCC members. TBH I don't know how the revenue share with the MCC works when an MFC member (not an MCC member goes to a game.) General admission people much easier. Also there is the question of make up games. If you recall the Anzac eve game which was a Richmond home game was also a make up game for MFC members. So did Richmond get any money from those MFC members PS.. sorry I see you said carpark where I was talking the MCG arena

Splitting Draft Pick 3
according to this afl article you are correct https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-07-04/former-free-agents-among-50-names-added-to-2019-list

Damien Barrett's scathing assessment of the MFC
those occur due to writing down internal valuations such as previous purchases. He may have written down the poker machine licence values etc assuming they have not been pre-sold. However MFC is looking at a simple revenue shortfall. So to come off that base he has to do one of two things grow revenue or cut expenses. Traditionally new CEO's cut expenses.

Damien Barrett's scathing assessment of the MFC
It would be pure frustration. Five years in or thereabouts and you find yourself in a team that goes dramatically backwards big time with a coach who just doesn't have the answers. Player loyalty disappeared years ago. He wants a successful football career. Can he get it at MFC. I don't know and I am sure he and other players are wondering the same thing.
-
Damien Barrett's scathing assessment of the MFC
Succinct and accurate comment. Post bye there was an air of desperation around the club. Sure there were more injuries but there was just zero improvement. People underestimate what the club had budgeted to receive in those last three MCG matches which were simply disastrous. They would have also been budgeting for a slight increase in sponsorship and at least 10% increase in membership numbers in 2020. Both areas are likely to see a drop. Our request to the AFL would have been for money so we would have painted a bleak picture.

A note from Drunkn
Thank you Drunkn on so many levels. I was lucky enough to meet you at a VFL match and like Dec with his football you with your heartfelt postings have enriched all our lives. Please don't be a stranger and enjoy the journey. When the time is right share a little of Dec's life post MFC. To you both and the family... best of luck

The Ashes - 2019
The appeal question is an interesting one. Not really sure. When DRS first came in I thought it made the batsman's role harder as it removed the concept of benefit of the doubt that used to be given to the batsman. Must say I do wonder how they can get the algorithms for ball height and spin right on day one when they have no empirical data for a particular pitch with variable weather conditions.

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ED LANGDON
This is good. Straight through the PSD and #$^& Freo. AFL have done us over by giving GCS a priority pick so it's time to play hard.
-
Splitting Draft Pick 3
restricted free agency does not involve compo picks. It gives GWS the right to match any offer made by another club. The idea is good but Whitfield will have the pick of the comp if he wants to leave
-
Splitting Draft Pick 3
yep... in the sense that four is better than two and then trade their high second round pick for a player
-
Splitting Draft Pick 3
perhaps but as an aside and following the logic on this thread why wouldn't you split them for two more etc etc Brings back memories of Sylvia and McLean not to mention the dynamic duo of Scully and Trengrove
-
Splitting Draft Pick 3
No... one will go to GC and one will go to a power club who will trade a 28 year old to GC and get salary cap relief at the same time. You have to love this game.

The Ashes - 2019
Not impossible for every ball to be reviewed automatically in the bunker. Cricket is not a fast game so you would only be one or two balls behind. Effectively that is how VAR works in soccer but admittedly there are far less VAR possibilities. It will never happen as India who control world cricket are massively against DRS.
-
The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy
Remember this is just the start... The CEO of GCS was interviewed on this subject mid year and he was saying they needed systemic preferential treatment. Priority picks and then salary cap relief (think COLA) so they can keep their players. Given that its AFL money which pays the salaries this is so ironic. Plus they have asked for NT to be their exclusive zone/academy.
-
The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy
okay... who is our 27-28 year old player who is paid very well that we could move on in such a trade. Essendon have Hurley for example and I am sure we can go through each of the power clubs and list similar players. Even our magnificent crop of youngsters...Oliver Brayshaw and Petracca are being questioned. Last years draft does not look like world beaters. May and Lever are well they're May and Lever and one could go on. 2020 is a BIG year.
-
The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy
made this point on the trading thread. Over there they seem to think splitting the pick is the smart thing. I think its the dumb conservative move.
-
The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy
and so they take a mature player that a big power club or a GWS can afford to move on and the power club gets salary cap relief and a chance to refresh at the pointy end of the draft. Is it any wonder the power clubs dominate. Ripples and flow ons
-
Splitting Draft Pick 3
didn't work too well with Tyson and Salem v Josh Kelly. It's the conservative approach for a desperate team which as usual we are. Frankly we have known for a long time that we will be picking in the top ten so there is no excuse for not having a very detailed plan going forward. The fact that we have pick 2 or 3 should make it easier
-
Jack Martin
Wants to leave GCS could he fit in and what is the price? https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-trades-2019-gold-coasts-jack-martin-set-to-ask-for-a-trade-this-week-with-six-victorian-clubs-interested/news-story/0624c46a1dfcfd5ae19177dd54687d94 several clubs reported as interested in him

2019 All Australian 40 Squad
Oliver needs to kick more. Wasted season development wise for him. If we had some depth I would have played him on the hff post bye just to develop his kicking game.
