  1. 16 rounds ?????
  2. Agree..the Bowls club land might have given them room for a pool and a gym but not much else She lauds the Richmond setup whereas I think it's a cobbled together solution made better somewhat by the surrounding parkland. The one area I would like to see explored is shared facilities with the likes of Collingwood, Richmond or Carlton. The big land item are the ovals (two seems to be the requirement) which could be used on alternate days or on a morning/afternoon roster. Same with the indoor training facility. Two gyms (they are not big space requirements) and two admin areas. As an aside people do not realise how lucky we were to have the old Board of Works (MMBW). The CEO in the time of Bolte was a guy called Croxford. The authority was as rich as Croesus and the story is told that if Croxford saw some spare land near a river or creek he would zone it or buy it. He locked the land off from the public and it was only opened up in the early seventies but without his "misguided" foresight we wouldn't have the fantastic river parks we have today. (of course Kennett saw the landbank along with that owned by the SEC ad flogged a lot of it off.)
  3. As we haven't had a home for thirty plus years it's hard to see where we fit. The article seems to be more about the big multi function corporate structure and the physical location vs history. She seems to ignore the advantages offered by indoor training facilities.pools etc. The club stuff could have been dealt with better by replicating the Windy Hill trophy room or similar perhaps. Tullamarine is fast becoming the Waverley of the North as the suburbs such as Gisborne, Sunbury etc grow ever larger so I wouldn't call it outer Melbourne. (And of course it's a lot closer than Casey).
  4. Recent article by Caroline Wilson linking the Bomber's woes to their move to Tullamarine away from Windy Hill. Not sure I agree with her attempted conclusions but it is an alternative view. For example she questions the Hawks' move to Dingley but lauds their earlier move to Waverley as a masterstroke. "That Essendon have ended a crisis-ridden season in a crisis of their own making is beyond dispute. And while this unfolding predicament is man-made it's worth revisiting once again the Bombers' ill-fated decision to abandon their spiritual home and move to an isolated new base at Tullamarine...... Boasting a footprint double the size of Windy Hill, the cavernous Hangar, futuristic fittings and fixtures, an MCG-sized training oval and one the dimension of Marvel Stadium has not exactly spelt success for the Essendon Football Club." https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/bombers-lost-their-soul-with-their-move-from-windy-hill-20201008-p563e6.html
  5. The problem with the revenue model in addition to what you have mentioned is how you measure revenue. Does it include sponsorships for example where the power clubs would be receiving 2-3 times the revenue of a lesser club.Does it include Hawthorn's poker machine revenue etc etc Having had to draft many agreements relating to revenue/profit sharing it's not easy. Once did a revenue sharing model for a takeover of some finance whiz kids' business. Looked fair but they came in doubled the staff upped the revenue by around 50% but also of course doubled the expenses and eliminated the profit . Learnt a lesson from that one.
  6. Off topic but can someone please post a link to the "new training ground thread". I want to make a post and in my searches couldn't crack the correct key words. Many thanks
  7. Tend to agree and at most 25%. The ticket revenue for Tennis Australia must be massive. Every seat in three stadiums sold for two sessions a day at an average close to $100. Add to that the hotel bookings etc etc and the overall loss to the Vic economy is enormous. As I understand it the next biggest stadiums are in Sydney and Brisbane. Perhaps a split tournament could be the way to go. With the seeding system you could have half the draw in one State and half in another and bring the finalists together. Alternatively you could split the men and the women which I don't think would be a good idea. As to the cricket a test against India in front of good crowds would be a very big TV draw card in India as it would be the only game for a year that India has played in front of crowds. Would they pay for a 25% filled MCG... who knows.
  8. The ACA and CA are strange bedfellows given that many cricketers now make the bulk of their money from the IPL. That aside I am amazed about how quickly the money ran out at CA. Makes you wonder how Tennis Australia will go if limited crowds are allowed at the Australian Open
  9. Trengroves tackle on Danger And then they were equals Sums up MFCSS in one play
  10. smart marketing as well as rewarding loyalty. Many may like the upgrade and decide to pay the extra in 2022
  11. A piece of trivia...One of the leading cases on the old form of many clubs then known as unincorporated associations involved the Carlton Football club and the enforceability of a lease to the old Fitzroy football club. Some of the clubs were companies limited by guarantee. Then you had the wonderful incorporation of unincorporated associations act. The quirk I always loved was the golf clubs with the declining members that then allowed the few to sell off the clubs land for a fortune and pocket the money. (In the case of MFC I don't think that's open to us desperate members.)
  12. 2020 equivocal... let me borrow those rose coloured glasses An injury free team that won one game against equal/superior opposition (St Kilda) by a point. Collingwood were injury riddled when we met them and we failed against every other team in the 8 during home and away for the third year running (except GWS in 2018). He's treading water at best. Glad to see you think he'll go next year if he repeats this year.. if not for the money he'd be gone this year and we all know that
  13. I think that's more realistic
  14. $100k per year paid by the MFC? No one will take him on those figures. $200k per year and you might get a nibble if very lucky. The problem with T Mac is that he was "fit to play" most of 2020 and could not make the team in front of Preuss and Brown both who would be on less than half Tom's money.
  15. agree... a very strange quarter given the half time score. Geelong dominated but just didn't want to push it.
  16. forget the pick for a moment....how much of a salary "dump" would you want assuming he is on $700k per year
  17. Front ending of contracts can be dangerous.Just ask the Suns with Ablett. Rumoured that they lost a few hundred thousand because Gary didn't honour his final year. $1.7M front ended for Martin is incredible if true. Still nothing on salary caps and list sizes for 2021/22. Makes you wonder if the clubs know but the AFL wants to keep it secret until post GF. Sydney must be sweating for example as to whether they can pay out Franklin.
  18. Goodwin's position this time last year and now are chalk and cheese as we all know. He now effectively has until the mid season bye next year and if unsuccessful Yze will be given the remainder of the year to see what he can do. Another performance like 2020 won't and shouldn't be tolerated. If by chance Goodwin is successful Yze will be into the next available senior coaching position which is probably North at the end of 2022 with a possibility of Adelaide or the Hawks.
  19. The potential for conflicts between Yze and Goodwin are obvious. The dynamics will be interesting to say the least. Yze can't lose. Goodwin fails ..Yze gets the senior job. Goodwin succeeds ..Yze gets the credit. 2021 could be quite dystopian.
  20. From the reservations expressed he's no Fitzpatrick but few are. Welcome back Brad Personally I would also like to see Daisy on the Board.
  21. I see Chol got dropped for Lynch. I wonder if he would fit in at the MFC. Preuss to ?? and Chol to MFC
  22. Those are Melbourne times so only 6:50/40pm in Qld. 30 degrees and a stiff wind predicted for each day so it could be a tough slog for the competing teams. Richmond and who knows with the other
  23. Scraping into the 8 in 2021 is also a fail. We need a strong start to the season and we need to challenge for the top 4for the whole season.. I'll be content with position 5 or 6 but not scraping in. Needless to say we have to perform well against the top teams
  24. Ah.. Cairns.... so many happy memories from 2020 ?
  25. Not across it fully but I don't think many of their draft choices have gone on. Parrish seems to go in and out of average form. How about the others? Pick 7 in this years draft is around pick 12 if not later in a "clean draft" and they have the problem of no 2020 exposed form for draftees. A mini rebuild could be tough if they don't nail their draft choices. PS I had forgotten McGrath.
