"Luke Jackson won't make it as a ruckman" Dwayne Russell 3/12/20
Agree. I would be disappointed if we try and make him the main ruck. That position is fading in relevance and is more easily filled by a dinosaur as most clubs tend to do these days.

THE PECKING ORDER
listing one by one is fraught with issues given different opponents and playing conditions. I prefer to list in groups of five. I doubt that I would have Lever i the top ten. If he was a better kick of the ball post marking he might get there but the constant up and under is frustrating. Anyone remember Howe. Spectacular mark. Would get up take 15 seconds plus and give off a lousy kick

Pre-PreSeason Training
Being a typical MFC supporter I was just reading an article on the newly arrived artistic director of the Australian Ballet. The AB is based in Melbourne. It seems that while they are allowed to rehearse they are not allowed physical touching until the new year. Has anyone heard the rules for preseason AFL training which I assume starts very soon. Admin Edit: The unofficial preseason began today. The 1-4 years start next week.

MFC Football Technology Pathway Program & Volunteers
Agree but at 10-25 hours per week, travel to Casey and mentioning graduates... not on and very disappointed in the MFC

Don't like it on so many levels

New Casey Coach Mark Corrigan
I really wonder what the role of Casey and similar clubs are these days. The game at VFL level is miles below the senior level quality wise and you have to question its worth as a true development path. In the last ten years I can only think of Weid, Petty and Baker who have come through Casey for any length of time. Not a stunning output. Makes you wonder if there is a better system.

Simon's pass mark for 2021?...
That is the sad reality. There has been a tendency here to forgive for the Cairns debacle and put it down to travel etc but really it was just another failure to motivate and manage the team. The second loss in Cairns had no excuse. A season where the highlight was a close win against the Saints and a big win over an injury riddled Collingwood doesn't bode well.

Bombers/AFL Withholding Players Wages
This is just one piece of the fallout from the late announcement on the salary cap and list sizes. Blame the AFL and the AFLPA....

Tasmanian Team
Not even the clubs know the answer to that one which is why some clubs want to reign in the power of the AFL.

Basketball has been prominent in the younger ages for decades. It doesn't translate to interest in professional basketball and many younger players give up as they quickly realise it is dominated by height. (Have never understood why junior leagues should not have height divisions as well as age.) Strangely enough at the under 8 level it is the little guys who are often far more co-ordinated.

Agree in that GWS has the Canberra market which also gives them access to the Riverina crowd. Mind you their Western Sydney crowds have been abysmal despite their success as a team.

Punt Road redevelopment
In those days the club was a sub club of the MCC and we trained on the MCG. At some time we started to train on (IIRC) the Scotch College Amateurs oval which was just across the rail foot bridge. The big mistake we made was not demanding our own training ground when we were thrown off the MCG. The reality is we probably couldn't afford the upkeep. Many of the grounds in those days were subsidised by the local councils.

North should play all home games in Tasmania and be guaranteed 9 away games in Melbourne (not Geelong) with the revenue from their Melbourne attendees going to them. It's a good deal all round. As to splitting games between Hobart and Launceston I'll leave that to the Tasmanians. Physical location of players, admin and training ground would be a sensitive discussion but as Tasmania are paying the piper I suspect it should be in Tasmania. (Perhaps there could be a transition period of 2-3 years to allow for family and player relocation.) And of course hawks can pack their bags.

Why You Should Wait Until After Trade Period Before Printing Calandars
Never thought I'd go without a watch but haven't worn one for the last five years. Calendars are so last century For those who are into such things perhaps you could sell a digital wallpaper that changes by the day or month that could be used as a screensaver for your TV or computer/phone. I'm looking at buying one of the Samsung Art TV's that make the TV look like a picture when off. Not sure I'd want a 70" grinning Gawn on my wall though.

James Frawley Retires... And Starts Playing Again
Don't know much about the Saints backline but a one year contract for a proven player makes sense if you have a short term hole to fill I very much hope we are looking very hard at finding a mature crumbing forward for the year. From Frawley's viewpoint who wouldn't put another $400k in their pocket when for the rest of his life he will be lucky to hit six figures.

The discussions centre around what proportion of the $4.5 million contract each club will pay over the next five years. The two clubs did not put an agreement in writing in the trade period's frantic conclusion. Sources said Collingwood believed they would pay a minimal amount of the contract given the Bulldogs gave up relatively little in draft terms. Had Collingwood been able to draw a higher draft pick in the trade, then the club would have been prepared to pay more of the contract to square off getting a better draft pick. The Bulldogs were of the view the Magpies would still pay a significant amount of Treloar's contract because it still meant they were clearing a big chunk out of their salary cap. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/afl-gives-magpies-bulldogs-time-to-talk-about-treloar-deal-20201126-p56ic2.html Amateur hour !!

What a joke Both clubs should be sanctioned by the AFL for failing to properly document the deal. Player contracts aren't rocket science.

Simon's pass mark for 2021?...
The first hurdle is a decent start to the season and getting to the bye with say a record of no less than 6-4. If he's less than that the media pressure will be so enormous that his imminent sacking will become the story. This is the best list we are likely to have for the next five years (Gawn declining, Hibberd declining etc). Scraping in with a late charge doesn't cut it with me. I also want to see a 50/50 or more win loss ratio with top 8 clubs. No good beating the bottom 8 if our gameplan fails against the top 8.

Punt Road redevelopment
Now if only we could sell the new complex as some form of bio security technology hub they'd all throw money at us.

Another Footy Frenzy for 2021
Unlike the AFL they got their rule change right. The "extra 6" rule is great. Their vault review of plays is terrible and is a lesson in how not to do it. Refs rarely call ties these days without a referral.
-
Another Footy Frenzy for 2021
Sale of a Thursday or Monday night game to Optus would be on in a flash if the AFL thought they could still keep the Foxtel money. Not sure the all powerful AFLPA would let them play 25 games without a 10% pay rise but I have no issue with it. The only thing I couldn't stand is another year hearing how Qld saved the AFL.

Another Footy Frenzy for 2021
memberships for the power clubs are reaching a practical peak. Room perhaps for a 20% increase at most but it's not a fundamental money spinner heading forward. Even for the lesser clubs you have to wonder except that they are yet to discover in the main the golden goose of the reserved seat.

More Rules Changes in 2021
I watch on kayo on thirty minute delay. The FF button that moves the play forward by 30 seconds is invaluable.

More Rules Changes in 2021
Has there been any justification of 18 minute quarters? the rationale for 16 minute quarters was the virus (what aspect escapes me now.... long year). Thanks
