Revamped VFL
Coburg oval was supposed to be revamped during 2020 and the Lions were moving to Preston for the duration. Not sure if the revamp took place so you might get to watch Coburg as well.

Revamped VFL
Only 16 rounds... so even more byes !! https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/twenty-two-clubs-from-southport-to-frankston-to-feature-in-eastern-coast-league-20201029-p569un.html The AFL says the yet-to-be-named competition will be on a par with the WAFL in Western Australia and SANFL in South Australia as feeder leagues for the national competition, and will play out across a 16-round fixture from April.

22 teams so perhaps 21 rounds. Can't understand who is funding Aspley etc to fly around. Frankston was almost broke and the questions keep coming

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Not quite he was not signed until June 2018 and by that time his value had sky rocketed from what it was at the end of 2017. Timing is everything and we lost big https://www.sportingnews.com/au/afl/news/melbourne-demons-key-forward-tom-mcdonald-signs-four-year-deal/wefaxief6xx017fsgvsp8yz5v

Good News for Footy Crowds in 2021
Interesting cultural comparison between Asia and Melbourne. When the lockdown was lifted here in late May I went a few days later to the mall. It was deserted. Six months later things are still very slow at the food courts and markets. Bars are still shut and are unlikely to open this year. There has been a central government app since June which replaced the State based app. Scanning in is easy. Many places have these fancy thermometers that you just pass your hand over. It's all a hassle and puts a dampener on life but it's okay. Masks in 34 degrees with high humidity can be a challenge. Most of the locals don't trust the reusable masks so it's all the medical masks. I have a wonderful collection of knockoff fashion masks...Burberry, Nike etc

2021 - What excites you?
Good luck The UAE has been making many thousands of doses of the Chinese vaccine available and all seems okay so far. Early days though

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
That defies belief T Mac is a negative trade wise(ie we pay them to take him) and Preuss is a high third rounder. Am I missing something

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Of course the real question is whether he will still get the same amount of frees when he plays for the Dees

Jesse Hogan on the way out at Freo?
I love symmetry. I'd also be happy for him and GWS if they won the big one (provided it's not at our expense).

2020 Player Reviews: #38 Mitch Brown
I hope he battles the NQR forwards for a spot. The biggest problem with VFL is that you are into round 4 of the AFL season before it even starts. Makes it hard for fringe players even in a "normal" year

Collingwood are kidding themselves if that is their offer. $300k supp for every year and even then the fifth year is hard to swallow. How did they stuff up so badly? It's far worse than us and Tom Mac

2020 Player Reviews: #44 Joel Smith
if Ben Brown is recruited there's no room for him up forward. (We also have Petty)

Hibberd Extends for 2021
One year deal makes sense. I suppose we will have to trade for a replacement at the end of 2021 as I can't see anyone pushing for his spot.

Dissecting the List
I think it's easier to rank groups than players. Backline.... medium to good... suspect players.. Hibberd (age) Jetta (age and form) Smith/Tomlinson (form) Midfield poor to medium .. very good players but rarely function as a unit Forward line... Poor... suspect players... All for well discussed reasons but at least most have demonstrable upside. Increasingly question marks over Melksham and AVB plus the Hunt/Hannan/ANB/Spargo band So on that basis our list isn't great but it has potential for the right coach. It's definitely the best we have had for a very very long time.

Pleasant to see other clubs with salary cap problems due to long contracts. Will be interesting to see if the power clubs move to maximum three year deals. The Buddy deal made long contracts seem smart with the ever growing media money and its accompanying increase in the salary cap. Not anymore.

AFL TRADE, DRAFT AND FREE AGENCY DATES 2020
And of course the big unknown... Adjusted list sizes and salary cap ... Announcement Date Unknown

2020 Player Reviews: #46 Austin Bradtke
definitely has a long way to go from the few times I have watched him. was only a relieving ruck at Casey in 2019 given they played Buxton when Preuss was not playing. You have to wonder what benefit he got from the hub in terms of development

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
I'd be happy with that length assuming the medicos are happy with his body. If it's five as LH posted I'd start to have some concern
-
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Is there any word on the length of the contract we are likely to offer Ben Brown. Thanks
-
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
he was out of contract... had nothing to do with the May trade it was simply a case of which club offered him the better deal and we blinked not sure what is has to do with brown either
