Congratulations to May for winning the JMac Award. Very much deserved. But the applause was almost non-existent...is there anyone in the room?

I didn't mean to imply Yze would be 3rd behind Richardson for senior coach. Richardson's role isn't very clear. His official title is Director of Coaching but I haven't been able to find a statement from the club on what what that involves. I've seen it described as Senior Assistant Coach, to mentor Goodwin and to develop Assistant Coaches. So I interpreted that, rightly or wrongly, that Richardson is Goodwin's 'right hand man'. I guess seeing Richardson take a few game day interviews has reinforced this. It was in this context that I said Yze would be 3rd behind Richardson ie in influence and importance so a role at mfc may not be so attractive as others, like you suggest that Essendon could.

Are any Queensland D'landers going tonight to keep us posted on events and whispers ??

Great to hear Max be so honest without spin or corp speak. “There’s so much to this, so it’s going to be a good unpacking and hopefully come January when we’re back, we’re a completely new club that’s going to play regular finals football and be ruthless in the way we play.” Is he expecting big changes somewhere, or just a throwaway line? Hopefully, a bit of both. The players have earnt their post season break. It will be a short preseason so good time for them to refresh and regroup. Onward to 2021.

Max's assessment: 2020-a-fail-but-not-a-waste Can't disagree with that. I like that he is frank without corp speak or spin.

Combined mid-field/strategy/opp analysis would be a great fit for her experience and fills a real need.
-
One out of left field: How would folks feel about Daisy Pearce as an assistant coach? Has an excellent footy brain regarding game plans, strategy and opp analysis and highly respected. She was assisting with coaching the AFLW team while waiting for her twins. Whether we could prise her out of the media who knows.

Being talked about as one of the best small forwards OOC this year:the-small-forwards-in-big-demand-who-will-be-this-trade-period-s-dan-butler "Hunt, who kicked 21 goals in 2019 as well, offers genuine speed in the front half when stationed there". 'When stationed there' is the telling part. He has been played all over the shop and not allowed to settle into a role in the last few years. Last year he played 21 games but he was not in the fwd line for all of them so a return of 21 goals was excellent. I think it made him our second/third highest goal scorer in 2019. Not big possession stats but when in the fwd line he knows where the goals are. He is as feisty and as brave as they come. Will be shattered ?to lose him and devastated ??if another club plays him to maximise his strengths.

Tom has been very professional and usually one of our best runners in the preseason. Was purely speculating on why his fitness may have fallen away. Whatever the reason for it I think he can get his fitness back again. He may not become the 2018 TMac but he could still play a valuable role.
-
Looking at some pre covid vision Tom doesn't look as heavy as he did when the season re started a few months later. His daughter was born in March just before the shutdown. Pure speculation but maybe Tom didn't/wasn't able to do the fitness/diet etc work needed to stay in top condition. Being away from the club, a new bub, supporting a new mum etc could be challenging to stick to regimes. Hopefully, relationships with coaches haven't broken down and if he stays he can become an asset again even if he doesn't recover 2018 form. Sam could sure do with the help.

Langdon might not rank as high as 3. Wouldn't be surprised if Lever is in there but don't know who would drop out of those 5.

Sorry binman, I don't remember the specific post. If you could quote it I'd be happy to respond.

Adem Yze to Essendon??: adem-yze-essendon-coaching-staff Foxfooty.com.au understands Yze, who is contracted at Hawthorn for 2021, is weighing up his options. Adelaide was also keen to lure him across to South Australia as recently as a few weeks ago but is now looking at other coaches around the league to assist Matthew Nicks. It’s understood Melbourne is also eager to bring Yze back to the club where he played 271 games and kicked 234 goals, but it’s unclear whether these discussions have resulted in a formal job offer. Looks like we are still in the race. But given he didn't join last year will he be tempted this year? He would be third in line to Goodwin and Richo so not sure an assistant coaching role at the dees would be as attractive this year. Would love to have him back at the club. Footnote: Not sure about his contract with Hawthorn to 2021 is correct. Think it could be 2022.

From an article on Foxfooty: VINEY’S FUTURE ON A KNIFE-EDGE Carlton and Geelong both believe Jack Viney is up for grabs for the right price. There is conjecture about how much Melbourne actually wants to keep its former captain, although Simon Goodwin is a huge fan of the 26-year-old. Would love to be a fly on the wall when Goodwin and the List Management Team meet! Goodwin being a fan of Viney was obvious when he made the 'captain's call' to make Viney co-capt blindsiding our existing captain in the process. A decision the players over turned just 3 years later. Goodwin may be too emotionally invested in Jack to make a 'best for the club' type decision.

I reckon it would more likely be end of first round pick which is a very handy chip to have during live trading so has a premium attached to it.

Officially exploring Free Agency. Linked to North and Carlton. dashing-giant-to-explore-free-agency Edit: Oops, didn't see the new thread...

TMac is said to be be on around $650-$750. If the scuttlebutt is right the club is happy for him to go. I'd guess it sees him gone as a way to find the money for a top line player. I'm not tracking who is available but I would imagine that sort of money would get us a Mihocek, Saad, Polec or similar. It would be good if we can get a TMac himself into such a trade so the pick we give up is a bit less.
-
It will be similar to the Hannebery trade. Injury history, in-contract (3 years to go), in and out of the side and was traded for peanuts. The pick swaps made it look a goodish deal but it was peanuts for a player with his honours: The Swans have traded Hannebery and pick 28 to the Saints, and received pick 39 and St Kilda's 2019 second-round pick in return. ie effectively a late 2nd round pick but the Swans got his $800,000k salary off their books. Not saying we will get the equivalent of a late 2nd rnd pick, just that the club will probably be happy to get TMac's salary off the books.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL
Lucifers Hero replied to Tinks's topic in Melbourne Demons
The difference is that Sidebottom's breach was not at an interstate Hub. Quite different rules and fines for Hub breaches. Having said that we should have 50% of the fine suspended as Collingwood did for the Sanderson/Buckley Hub breach. It seems we didn't get it because of the Spargo/Kozzie breach which were not while in Hubs so imv shouldn't count as a first offence as Sidebottom's didn't.
