  1. Tehnically Mahoney doesn't fall in one of those departments as he is the boss of coaching and fitness (and other departments) Will be bitterly disappointed if Mahoney's position isn't reviewed.
  2. It didn't say. Simeon Thomas-Wilson (don't know who that is) did a complete list analysis. Too long to repeat but if there is anyone that interests you I can pick that out. Edit: thought it easier to pm to you - it should be in your inbox.
  3. Tried to send but a message back saying you don't receive messages... Sent
  4. Just to clarify, the article said coaching and fitness and named several people but Mahoney wasn't one of them. That isn't to say his position isn't being reviewed. I thought it was good to get some insight into likely players to be contracted. The review probably explains why Burgess hasn't been recontracted yet - my guess he would take up a sizeable portion of the soft cap.
  5. @Demonland Andy, may I have a copy of the article pm'd to me please.
  6. An interesting update by Sam Edmund this morning: sam-edmunds-trade-and-free-agency-update “... the Cats have at least touched base here but they were a bit apart on money... “Melbourne thought their first offer was reasonable but then the Viney camp went way above what Melbourne thought was fair. “There’s been a bit of back and forth but I’m hearing they’re just about there (on a new contract).” Did Jack get a reality check on his market value from Geelong? We will never know. But it is well known Geelong never pay overs. Hope we haven't.
  7. No, Fritsch has not yet re-signed. Rivers is contracted to end of 2021. All player contract details are in this thread. I'm updating as list/contract changes occur. It is pinned at the top of this forum.
  8. Have corrected the table...until it is official.
  9. Updated for Bennell's retirement ?, Smith's one year contract extension and 2 year contract extensions for Sparrow and Petty? Edit: Thanks to @WERRIDEEfor correction re Jack Viney whose supposed contract renewal I had included.
  10. The article says Smith signed for one year. If Oscar leaves and Petty is not ready to go we will need depth in the backline. Hibberd is yet to re-sign (I assume he will) and is getting older so we also need coverage for him. So I have no problem with a one year extension.
  11. Thanks for the update: I've been a believer that Tom can get back to form, not necessarily his 2018 goal scoring form but enough to play a key role as a tall in our fwd line while Weideman and Jackson develop. Then we can put our money and picks into finding the wingman we sorely need or a top small fwd. In reading the whole article it seems that Tomlinson has taken Oscar's role in the backline which wasn't on the cards early in the season. Hope Oscar finds another club. Its also interesting that GWS have reservations about Preuss: "The Giants have queries about Preuss’ ability to cover the ground and spread. He is a monster of a man at 206cm and 114kg".
  12. Ablett has been poor the last few games. If it wasn't for the name would he even get a game next week? If he does, nostalgia may cost them a Prelim. Having said that very happy for them to go out in straight sets again.
  13. While $ price might be an issue the traded value is where it can be 'offset' ie a lesser draft pick/player/package. Sydney accepted extreme unders in draft picks for Hannebury, Rohan etc just to get the $ off their books. GWS did the same to move the $ for HWSNBN and Patton. We may need to do the same with TMac: Take a lower draft pick or pay some of his salary for several years. It comes down to whether sal cap space is worth more than draft pick.
  14. While I will back the club and Jack going forward just not sure what it means for Brayshaw. We have re-signed Sparrow and will likely re-sign a few other mids (Jordon, AvB) who will be competing with established mids for game time. So quite possibly an established mid will be traded and fear it will be Brayshaw being seen as 'excess to our needs' or he gets more midfield time elsewhere. Less worrying it could be Harmes, or both.
  15. Other than Buddy those that have left have gone to 'lowly' clubs to help their players develop. So its a bit hard for them to play in premiership sides. It seems to me they go to get a few more $ which they sacrificed at Hawks and to keep playing a game they enjoy. Having said that hope if we get Smith hope he can help us get into contention while with us.
  16. I'm also circumspect on the 3 years. dees-land-international-performance-manager In the article on club website, by Ben Gibson it says: "Melbourne has secured the services of Darren Burgess for season 2020" and he repeats it in the body of the article. That looks like one year to me. He has broken contracts before; he left Port early to join Arsenal. Isn't Burgess originally from rom SA? Could be just a fishing expedition by Adelaide; has there been any other report/confirmation of Crows' interest?
  17. Don't care really. This season died a long time ago for me. I would like the finals to be over so that we can get down to the important stuff like player trades, staffing changes etc. It is going to be a long October...
  18. Plus Matthews won 3 flags at the Lions after one at the Pies. Trying to think of premiership coaches going to another club and not winning a flag (exluding Roos and Sheedy as their roles were set-up/rebuild). Not many I suspect. So not sure the folks that say premiership coaches don't succeed at a second club has a lot of merit. imv, it would be silly to not consider Clarkson on that assumption or his last few years. He simply hasn't had the players and key ones have been injured.
  19. Either the bros fell out of love or GM Football (or someone on high) overruled the coach on who is on his team... As an aside, one has to wonder who is pulling the strings at North - plenty of ex-players putting their bib in. In a world of hurt...
  20. I'm getting a little nervous about the 'talls' being touted as on the table: Oscar, Preuss and TMac. That is nearly all our tall depth!! We need a genuine back up for Max. Kids or make shift stand ins are fine for a game or two but not if Max has a lengthy injury. We also need an experienced tall fwd to help Sam during games and to learn from. A solid case can be made for any of Oscar, Preuss or TMac being traded but we still need depth and experience. The talls we have waiting in the wings: Bradtke (Rookie 0 games), Jackson (6 games), Petty (6 games), Brown (Rookie 75 games). Hardly sufficient or appropriate depth. I haven't heard us being linked to any 'talls' but will wait for the trade period to see which talls we have on the list.
  21. Maybe we are waiting for the soft cap before renewing his contract. Last year Mahoney reduced our coaching and List Management people/budget and reinvested in Fitness which was sorely needed. I've said a few times we may have robbed 'Peter to pay Paul' and weakened our coaching panel. Losing senior and expensive staff (Viney, McCartney, Rawings and Jennings) and only partially replacing them (Richardson, extension of Stafford's role and Lewis part time) would have 'saved' in the region of (guessing) $500-700k to be used for the Fitness dep't etc There is a very good chance a chunk of that went to hire Burgess. Fair to say he cost a lot more than Misson. So speculating that he could be too expensive to keep under the new, much lower soft cap, especially if we are to rebuild the coaching group.
  22. We have a few young guys with development still in them (and are also cheaper) who can cover ANB's roles. After 6 years I would rather put time and experience into them and see what they can do.
  23. It looks to me the club is shedding some more experienced but expensive depth players to dump their salaries from the sal cap, in favour of our (cheaper) younger guys. Its a sensible way to restructure the list and meet the sal cap. And as you say exiting those players will help target a few players we need.
  24. Thanks. I had the worry meter highly tuned and the sarcasm detector failed to activate...
