Sounds like Geelong will give up their three 1st round picks and get a future 2nd back for Cameron. A case of Free Agency not going to script! Geelong were committed. GWS knew it. Good on GWS for sticking to their guns. It means Geelong don't get 3 potentially top talents. Messes with their list management plans and age profile. Its a good outcome for the rest of us.

Welcome to Demonland - Pick 25 (Dees/Swans Pick Swap)
True. But the comment/post refers to where pick 6,7,8 end up at COB (7.30 pm) tonight. And whether we go for one of them (eg #8) in pick swaps in the next few weeks. My theory is we will aim higher than Bulldogs pick #14.

Welcome to Demonland - Pick 25 (Dees/Swans Pick Swap)
Because they want Dunkley and are committed to taking Caldwell. Both Bulldogs and GWS asking for a 1st round pick so a fair chance that pick 8 will find its way to another club as part of a trade for the player plus other picks. It may even end up at Coll if Bulldogs use#8 for Treloar. Still a fair bit to play out with Ess picks 6,7,8. When the music stops at 7.30 pm we will know where they end up.

Welcome to Demonland - Pick 25 (Dees/Swans Pick Swap)
I mentioned in another thread that we appear to aiming higher than the bulldogs pick #14. It will be very difficult to dislodge any of the top 5 picks. So I reckon we may be targetting one of Ess picks 6,7 or 8 whether they stay with Ess or end up someone else. eg if pick 8 goes to the bulldogs for Dunkley+/-or to GWS for Caldwell+/- we are more likely to aim for it once it changes hands. A much easier transaction than trying to deal with Dodoro. But there is no hurry to do the pick swap as there is 3-4 weeks of pick swap time before the draft (and live draft). Let the dust settle and then let Mahoney go to work.

This from the fox website should answer some questions. Dual premiership Kangaroo David King said it was unfathomable how quickly the Pies have run into their TPP issue. I think there’ll be a Royal Commission into how they go into this situation at Collingwood,” King told Trading Day.“Ned Guy, he’s acting like the Candy Man handing out contracts down there. It’s unbelievable what some of these guys are on.

TMac on the Trade Table?
Mahoney just said on sen that Tom will be our back up ruckman. This suggests we won't be taking Phillips (Ess variety).
-
Rumour only file ...
We might but I'm guess we are aiming higher up the draft order, if not today but in pick swaps by the time the draft arrives. Essendon have a few juicy picks.

Rumour only file ...
I also couldn't believe it so I checked their website before posting. 'Side-by-side' is a good battle-cry but 'made-by-many'...bland, bland, bland. I was wondering who is going to drop out of the 8 so we can replace them. I know the answer: Collingwood!! They are a bit of a mess.
-
Rumour only file ...
Apparently Collingwood has changed its website banner from 'side-by-side' to 'made-by-many'. Can't confirm the first part. If it has been changed, coincidence or damage control. I suggest the latter - usually they make a big fanfare of such things. But what are they thinking 'Made-by-many' is soooo boring and uninspiring.

Assistant Coaches 2021
With the possibility of the Roos coach being announced soon, I wonder if we might add to our coaching panel from those that aren't successful. We, imv have some vacancies: Casey Coach/development (in addition to Egan), ball-movement, strategy, op analysis. Not suggesting we would add a coach for each role. We have yze with experience in the latter 3 but doubt he can do it all and be mid-field coach.

Rumour only file ...
An integral part of the Brisbane rebuild which will be great for North. Played a few games for the old Fitzroy (in Roos' time). Coached Glenelg in his own right for a few years. A really solid background with maturity so a much better bet than a first time 'rookie' senior coach who has to learn on the job. If I was a north supporter I would be happy with his appointment.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
HS and other AFL websites love it. The ratio of clicks is far higher during trade time then during the season. Each click gets them some money. Orchestrated for max media interests. Edit: Forgot to add Fantasia, Caldwell and Jack Higgins to list of 'juicy' trades. Nearly every Vic club affected by potential trades.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Or the AFL is holding back the 'juicy' trades to create 'drama'. They will love Treloar, Cameron, Stevenson, Cox, Phillips, Dunkley, Brown announcements being delayed. That is a lot of fans hanging on (click baiting) for news.

TMac on the Trade Table?
Incentives do count towards the overall sal cap. But in the overall sal cap clubs have 'money pools' for things like: incentives eg if a player finishes 1st in the BnF they get x$ or x%, finish 2nd and it is $y or y% etc. Similar for Brownlow votes. games played incentives: 'play > x games' and the player gets $x or x%. (Phillips at Colllingwood is an example of this). Clubs have a number of players on these incentives but would 'hedge' (budget) that not all reach them. players on '$ per game' contracts (eg rookies and lower level players) getting a game. The fewer of these payments the lower the demands on the sal cap. A club would again 'hedge' (budget) only a certain part of the sal cap is needed for this. (As an aside this badly hurt our sal cap last year when so many 'contract based' players were injured and we had to pay them and make 'game based' payments to the replacements). Each of these 'pools' would be included in and budgetted as part of the overall sal cap and not a particular player. My point was how a new club can structure TMac's package so that only the 'base component' is guarenteed and a definite part of the sal cap. Any incentives to Tom come from the 'money pools' above which as I mentioned are budgetted separately as part of the overall sal cap.

TMac on the Trade Table?
With my suggestion of an incentive based component and mfc subsidy I would guess his base cost to a club would be around $550/$600 not much more than Phillips is apparently on. My math is $700-$750 k package. $100-$150k mfc subsidy. $50-$100k incentive component (games played, BnF finish) etc. (And/or the other club could add triggers for a contract extension incentive and use that to trade off some base $). Tom is a proud guy. He would give his all so would work hard to get the incentive back and to stay in the team.
-
TMac on the Trade Table?
If Tom agreed to to an incentive component with the club he goes to, plus our subsidy, it would soften the impact on the receiving club's TPP. It isn't a lower package per se. He can get the same but needs to do more to 'earn' it. It must be preferable to playing two years at Casey. A few candidates that might have another look (in likely order): Sydney will lose Aliir Aliir and were very interested in Tom in 2018 Can GWS rely on Jesse getting on the park each week? Carlton look like they may lose Curnow for the best part of 2021 Collingwood if they lose Cox Ess are taking a punt on Wright to spearhead their rise up the ladder And AvB could be packaged with Tom if he went to a NSW club.

Pick #30 might go to North for Higgins (rejected #38). While that deal is not directly connected to the Brown deal it may help it get done.
-
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
I would hope so! But they also seem very keen to trade up the draft and it looks like they want to be higher than the bulldogs pick, which is why they have turned down pick #38 from Geelong for Higgins.
-
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
If it were pick 26 and 31 which has also been touted it is equivalent to #10-#11. Even in normal circumstances a pick equivalent in the #10-#14 range looks a bit on the high side. If that is what they want they are doing an Essendon and acting like the player is under contract and they are happy to keep him. Hope we don't weaken especially if we want to trade up the draft.
-
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
I don't put much store in what Jon Ralph reports but fwiw: "...Melbourne was “very open” to giving Picks 31 and 33 to North in exchange for Brown". In points that is equivalent to #14 ? Not on in my book for a player they have dumped on the footpath.
-
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Looks like North are playing hard ball. Reports are they have rejected Geelong's offer of #38 for Higgins. Given he wouldn't be on high $, its a 2 year contract and his age, I thought that offer quite reasonable. Hawks have let equivalent players go for picks #60+. May not bode well for what we have to trade for Brown. Hopefully, Mahoney doesn't blink.
